Making Learning Visible - 0 views

  •
Most of us are in groups all the time. But are these groups learning groups? When does a group become a learning group? Can a group construct its own way of learning? Can documenting children's learning lead to new ways of learning? These are some of the questions addressed in the research project, Making Learning Visible (MLV). MLV draws attention to the power of the group as a learning environment and documentation as a way to see and shape how and what children are learning. MLV is based on collaborative research conducted by Project Zero researchers with teachers from the Municipal Preschools of Reggio Emilia, Italy, and preschool through high school teachers and teacher educators in Massachusetts.

Find the Best Educational Apps for Preschoolers "Educational App Store For Parents." KinderTown transforms mobile devices into powerful teaching tools by finding and organizing the best educational apps for kids ages 3-8 years old. Our mission is to improve early childhood education by empowering busy parents with the tools to be better teachers. We work hard to find the best educational apps for children. Each app we select for KinderTown has been tested and reviewed by educators, parents, and most importantly, children. Not all, or even most of the apps meet our high standards. We take many factors into account including educational value, ease of use, engagement value, design features, artwork, cost, and shelf life.

"The Center for Response to Intervention in Early Childhood: Using Early Detection and Prevention Strategies to Identify Struggling Students Before They Fall Behind IES research scientist Kristen Lauer interviewed principal investigators Judith Carta and Charles Greenwood on their thoughts about the Center for Response to Intervention in Early Childhood (CRTIEC) that began in July 2008. This 5-year project is conducting focused research to develop and rigorously evaluate and replicate intensive interventions for preschool language and early literacy skills and develop and validate an assessment system linked to these interventions. In addition, the research team is providing national leadership on development and implementation of Response to Intervention (RtI) models for young children and conduct supplementary studies related to RtI and assessment issues. The Center's long-term goal is to prevent disabilities in reading by increasing the number of young children who enter school with knowledge and skill in early literacy and language."

  •
The State Board of Education of Ohio recognizes parents and families as children's first and most important teachers. When parents enroll their children in school, from preschool through high school, the responsibility of education and care is shared with the school and the community. Partnerships among families, schools and communities that are child-centered and family-strengthening can engage, guide and motivate students to be productive citizens in a global society.

NCCP | Investing in Young Children - 0 views

"High quality early care and education can play a critical role in promoting young children's early learning and success in life, while also supporting families' economic security. Young children at highest risk of educational failure - those experiencing poverty and related circumstances that may limit early learning experiences - benefit the most from high quality early care and education programs. This fact sheet provides information about the percentages of young children in each state experiencing risks related to poor educational outcomes. It then shows trends in federal and state investments in early care and education programs and state policies related to both access and quality."

Children, Adolescents, and the Media - 0 views

"Media, from television to the "new media" (including cell phones, iPads, and social media), are a dominant force in children's lives. Although television is still the predominant medium for children and adolescents, new technologies are increasingly popular. The American Academy of Pediatrics continues to be concerned by evidence about the potential harmful effects of media messages and images; however, important positive and prosocial effects of media use should also be recognized."
