The Datafication of the workplace Whilst a lot of recent discussion on the future of work in relation to technology has focused on the growing gig economy and platform labour, less focus has been on how more traditional forms of work and labour relations are being transformed with the implementation of data systems, particularly within Europe.

"This paper discusses the implications of this commodification and advocates the full recognition of activities in the gig-economy as "work". It shows how the gig-economy is not a separate silo of the economy and that is part of broader phenomena such as casualization and informalisation of work and the spread of non-standard forms of employment. It then analyses the risks associated to these activities with regard to Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, as they are defined by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and addresses the issue of misclassification of the employment status of workers in the gig-economy. Current relevant trends are thus examined, such as the emergence of forms of self-organisation of workers. Finally, some policy proposals are critically analysed, such as the possibility of creating an intermediate category of worker between "employee" and "independent contractor" to classify work in the gig-economy, and other tentative proposals are put forward such extension of fundamental labour rights to all workers irrespective of employment status, and recognition of the role of social partners in this respect."

D'après Mark Graham, les cinq stratégies pour améliorer les conditions de travail des digital workers sont : des données appropriées pour voir ce qu'il se passe dans ce secteur ; davantage de transparence dans les chaînes de valeur ; s'approprier les espaces digitaux de résistance ; réguler le marché du travail digital là où se trouvent les donneurs d'ordres ; mettre en place des plateformes coopératives.

Working papier de Michel Bauwens et Vasilis Niaros pour l'Institut syndical européen (ETUI), sur les défis et opportunités de la production pair-à-pair pour les syndicats.D'après les auteurs, ce mode de production, basé sur des capacités technologiques existantes et qui peut répondre à une demande sociale, doit faire l'objet d'une forte demande de régulation de la part des syndicats. Leur rôle dans une ré-industrialisation à l'échelle locale serait donc prépondérant, d'autant plus qu'il leur faudrait élaborer des stratégies pour inclure les travailleurs autonomes, comme ceux des plateformes coopératives par exemple.

Dans les prochaines semaines, plusieurs contributions conjointes du Sheffield Political Economy Research Institute (SPERI) et d'openDemocracy vont paraître sur le travail, les droits des travailleurs et leur organisation collective à l'ère du digital.
