The mission of Sputnik Observatory is to be the world's foremost institute dedicated to the study of contemporary culture. Sputnik Observatory manifests this commitment by documenting, archiving and disseminating the ideas that are shaping the arts, sciences and technology. Central to Sputnik Observatory's mission is the encouragement of an ever deeper understanding and enjoyment of life-long learning that aims to support the advancement of modern thought in society.

A tag cloud is a list of words in different sizes and colors, with or without a sense of depth (3D), meant to represent the statistical importance of keywords mentioned in a particular document base (a blog, a website, twitter,…). It serves as an indicator of the relative importance of the use of certain ideas in the document base at hand. It is a bottom-up, very fuzzy method for the synthesis of knowledge from an arbitrarily big aggregate of (text) data. Because it rests entirely on statistics, very often there is absolutely no relationships between the keywords of a tag cloud. Worse even, if they existed (by pure chance), there is absolutely no way of finding out about the meaning of those relationships.

The nLab is a collaborative wiki which has grown out of the desire (I, II) of an on-line community communicating via the weblog The n-Category Café of people interested in discussion of expository and research nature about mathematics, physics and philosophy in the light of category theory and higher category theory (the "n" in "nLab") to have a place for development (the "Lab" in "nLab") and indexed archivation of the ideas and concepts that were, are and will be subject of or that developed out of the discussion at the weblog.

What lies at the intersection of journalism and videogames? This research project seeks to understand the ways videogames can be used in the field of journalism, providing examples, theoretical approaches, speculative ideas, and practical advice about the past, present, and future of games and journalism.

I am pleased to announce the release of Issue II of Consilience: The Journal of Sustainable Development. Semantic Cloud is the API that powers semantic search engine SenseBot and contextual linking tool for bloggers LinkSensor. The API supports SOAP and REST protocols (HTTP GET). The idea is to empower semantic startups or any ventures that are looking to utilize an affordable high-quality semantic solution to build their applications. Semantic API features include: * extraction of semantic concepts from a page or document; * creating a "semantic cloud" of concepts describing a group of documents; * generating a multi-document summary of a set of pages; * generating an essay on a topic based on a set of documents. Multiple parameters allow the client to control the type and format of results.

Connexions works to connect individuals and organizations working for social change with each other, with information and ideas, and with the wider community. Connexions Online features resources and organizations fostering democratization, economic justice, environmental responsibility, civil liberties, and the creation and preservation of community.

There is a growing community interest in applying Semantic Web and Web 2.0 technologies in health care and life sciences areas including the Health Care and Life Sciences Interest Group (HCLSIG ; http://www.w3.org/2001/sw/hcls/) and Medicine 2.0 (http://www.medicine20congress.com/). This has motivated us to explore how to intersect these two sets of technologies in the context of the HCLS Knowledge Base (KB).
