Facebook and google looking at mobile ads for their source of revenue considering the increased use of mobile applications. Elaborates on the discussion this past week on how our identities are being readily made public allowing public companies to target specific users.

This is a bit OT: A new Zellers ad that's pretty funny regarding the Zellers-Target takeover controversy. Bringing some sympathy to Zellers (and their workers by default). Did they communicate it well? I think so.

Facebook picking up cues from instagram and adding editing software to their IOS app. Social construction of technology? 

I think this is a new aspect in the reporter/journalist vs. citizen journalist debate. Really interesting how there is already a policy in place regarding live-tweeting from the athletic department at the University of Washington. "Social media has irreversibly altered the media landscape, and the power relationship between big content brands, individual reporters and fans. But the major money makers - ad-rich TV and radio, in particular - will always, or at least for the foreseeable future, remain in the control of the powerful. So it's best for them to lay off the micromanaging, and accept some bit of change."

Interesting article about the increasing blend of work life and personal life. I'm not sure if I'd advocate adding a friend on Facebook - while I can control my own posts I'm not sure I can trust that I'd be able to manage my Facebook in a way that would absolutely ensure a manager wouldn't see an undesirable post from someone else before I had time to delete it.

Campbell added that increasingly, employers are searching Facebook and Twitter before hiring and that there are jobs out there for young people with social media savvy. Starting in Grades 4 and 5 teachers want to teach students to have a responsible digital footprint. Campbell's teaching style is not uncommon. The provincial curriculum has required technology to be woven into the classroom for several years, said Clare Brett, an associate professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Interesting article about Microsoft's latest IE package. Comes with a "do not track" option to deflect advertising companies from potentially tracking your online browsing history. Interesting to see how this may affect ad-sponsored sites...
