This article talks about the four most common upper extremity injuries. They are hand or wrist fractures, hand or wrist sprains, chronic pain, reoccurring acute injuries. I have not had any upper extremity injuries that I can recall, but I'm sure I will some time in my life time. I have had friends to have carpel tunnel and had surgery for it and they still have issues with it, even after the surgery. I seen several severely injured hands in my first semester of clinicals at an outpatient rehab. Not a pretty sight. Hand injuries and other upper extremity injuries happen to all ages and can be the most inconvenient injuries.
This article addresses the evaluation process and talks about interventions that would allow someone to continue driving, such as remedial and adaptive approaches. A lot of times, when people do not think an issue involves them, it is harder for to sympathize with those it does affect. This video showed me how this issue could just as easily involve me or someone I love deeply. As it has been said, "there but for the grace of God, go I."
This article interested me as it does make reference to sexual surrogacy. It states that most sexual therapy is verbal however some cases do require the use of a sexual surrogate therapist. As the author of this article practices in the Fair Oaks, California area, this would lead me to believe that sexual surrogates are legal at least in some states.

Disabled people use sex toys for the same reasons as anyone else: for pleasure, variety, sexual experimentation, kinky sex... the list goes on. But some disabled people also use them to assist with sexual difficulties or physical, mental or sensory impairments. Sex isn't always straight forward for anyone, and it certainly isn't like in the movies.
Advances in bionic hands have restored a sense of touch to two patients for more than a year, report US scientists. The men can now delicately pluck the stalks out of cherries. Sensors on the artificial hand are used to send signals directly to the nerves, the study, published in Science Translational Medicine, said.
For most people sexuality is a very intimate area of their personal life which they do not wish to share with other people with the exception, perhaps, of a few very close persons. On the other hand, other peoples' sex life is of great interest to a large part of the population as evidenced by the huge market for sex-oriented films, magazines and similar products.
This article talks about Innappropriate Patient Sexual Behavior and how to deal with it in a very assertive way. It says to never ignore the problem and to always handle it in a very assertive yet non threatening way. The most important comment that to take away is:
"Patient behavior is about the patient and NOT about YOU" - this is good to remember in all patient scenarios.

I found this website is very interesting because it is describes sex options for people with different types of disabilities. I never thought about that back pain can be very challenging when it comes to sex. Communication between couples is very important, they can make decisions what sexual activities are the best for them.

Huge thanks go to our two guest contributors for their summaries of the #OTalk on Sexuality. #OTalk: Discussing sexuality in OT practice (completed by @michelliwelli) 21 February 2012 One of the first questions that were asked was whether sex is an occupation. There was agreement that it was an occupation despite Kielhofner's previous assertions that...
this is a great website and has pics of different positions for having sex in a wheelchair. I thought it was very interesting and shows stick figure graphics on ways I would never think of but can be used when educating patients. It also has hyperlinks to topics such as body image, relationships, sexual violence and harassment for those with disabilities.
