We have talked quite a bit in our classes about types and uses of Assistive Technology. I came across this website that gives an overview of laws and how they provide for assistive devices. While the website is geared toward families of children, the information can also be beneficial in educating adult clients of their rights as well.

This document discusses the risks of falls in the older population and why prevention is so important. It goes on to explain how to develop a community based fall prevention program and the necessary components such as education, exercise, medication management, home assessment and home safety. Great resource with a lot of information about fall prevention.

This website is the National Center for Learning Disabilities. Within the website, there are many apps listed that are available for people with learning disabilities. Some of these include apps to help with writing, math and reading difficulties as well as organizational skills. You can click on an app and find out detailed information about it. If you are looking for information about apps for learning disabilities, this is a great website to visit.

Each amputee goes through their own personal struggle. Whether the amputation is a result of trauma or illness, the feelings are the same!

I found this website is very powerful and educational. And as a future OT practitioners we can recommend it for our clients. It is about amputation foundation that originally was created for veterans, but would give a hand to any amputee civilian. There are a lot of helpful information about how to take care of amputated limb, how to get social security disability, etc. Also this foundation offers support, financial aid, information on recreational activities, medical equipment, and counseling.

I found this article very educational, because it gives us a case study. Sometimes restraints can have opposite effects on the intended purpose. Ignorance about danger of restraints can lead to injuries or deaths.

I had never heard of a healthy aging program, but found it very interesting! What a great idea. It incorporates all of the activities and education that an older adult could be looking for. I know there's probably not many out there in our more rural communities, but it is an awesome program to keep the young at heart healthy and involved in all aspects of their lives.

I thought this video was great for what has been being discussed in class between THP and safe transferring in/out of a vehicle. There are a few things mentioned in the video that I would have not considered for a THP, so I felt that others' may benefit from this as well. This video provides an example of how to educate a patient on the different precautions. I felt like this was important because OTA's are holistic and being able to transport safely from place to place is a very important factor.

This short video shows simple, but effective ways to successfully protect one's hand joints. The ideas shown in this video could be helpful for anyone, however, while watching this video I specifically thought of people who have JRA/RA. These compensatory strategies could allow a person to have their independence longer. Furthermore, I always love to be educated on easier ways of doing activities and in the video it shows ideas for using a shelf liner. I believe this video is fantastic for supporting safe ways of doing one's ADL/IADL's.

This video gives a lot of good ideas for protecting your hand joints. I've noticed that going to the grocery store requires a lot of pushing, pulling, lifting, and manipulating with the wrists, hands, and fingers. My hands are really small, and I've started to pay more attention to what I'm asking them to do. Like, when opening a door, I use more of my body to push it open then just ramming my hand on the push bar.
