I was looking for information in AOTA regarding therapeutic exercise and I came across an amazing list of Apps therapists can use. The one App in relation to this post is called Howtodoit therapy. It was developed by an OT and it allows the therapist to create customizable instructions for exercise programs for their clients. This is App is free at the moment. I couldn't find many reviews but I thought it was pretty neat. After checking out this App, look at all of the other Apps listed!

I wasn't sure if you realized this or not but the article you posted is a password protected article and won't let the general public read it. I have a membership and could read it but not everyone will be able too.

OT's Role During Training | Orthotic & Prosthetic Product Reviews, Blogs, Videos, News ... - 2 views

  •
This is a very interesting and informative article on the pre-prosthetic treatment OT gives a client. The client will be assessed by OT for things like ROM, scar management, pain, phantom pain and sensation, and desensitization. Client interview helps the practitioner choose a correct prosthetic. Always consider the psychosocial aspect. There are different things to consider if the amputation is unilateral or bilateral. The OT will help prepare the limb to wear the prosthetic. Mirror therapy can be used as a treatment option for phantom pain. The OT will help in ADL training, stump care, prosthetic care, and psychosocial care.

Occupational Therapy and Cancer Care - 2 views

  •
Occupational Therapy play a very important role with patients dealing with a cancer diagnosis. OT can help with energy conservation issues, pain, weakness, psychosocial, and physical impairments. Quality of life and independence are key. OT can be of service to people newly diagnosed, in cancer treatment, or in hospice. What I needed reminding of was that OT can help those that have survived, especially the psychosocial aspect.
  •
This article discusses the specific areas and goals that occupational therapists may address with cancer patients. I thought the writer did a great job explaining what occupational therapy is and why the field is so important. This would be a good resource for later on if I ever go on to interview for a job in oncology, would be a nice review of how impactful OT can be.

This is a very thorough and reliable study, which will especially be helpful for all of you who are considering to advocate for more physical education and recess at schools! The basic recommendation within these guidelines is that children and youth, should engage in at least 60 minutes (but up to several hours) of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity per day to gain significant health benefits. Aerobic exercise has the strongest impact on overall physical and mental health.

Spraying on Skin Cells to Heal Burns | MIT Technology Review - 0 views

  •
This website describes a new piece of technology that helps with the recovery of burn victims. Researchers have found a way to use skin from an undamaged area, place it in a tube with an enzyme and spray the solution in the tube over the burn area to heal the site in a way that is much less painful than having a skin graph. this process can be a better option than a traditional skin graph because it takes less time for the patient to heal from, it can cover a larger portion of damaged skin from a smaller portion of undamaged skin, and the solution takes very little time to prepare.

this was a good instructional video for taking a clients blood pressure. I found it interesting that the stethoscope actually has an off position that you need to be aware of, I did not realize that.

This is a really good video on how to take blood pressure. If you need to brush up on it, I would advice viewing this. It is a good one to reference back to if you don't take blood pressure often and need a review.
