How Pinterest Can Teach You About Universal Design - 1 views

  •
Originally, I was looking for an article about aging in place but during my search I came across an article, "How Pinterest Can Teach you About Universal Design". Almost everyone is familiar with Pinterest and this article talks about resourceful Pinterest can be. There is a pinner named Claudine Casabonne who shares a bunch of information on universal design. She states that the "goal is inclusive design, which doesn't need adaptation". I thought this was pretty interesting. Following her on Pinterest might come in handy if we ever take our careers in this direction.

I found this pinterest page that has a bunch of different splints on it. I just thought after the lab yesterday, it was cool to see more kinds of them. Since this is a pinterest page, i am not sure if all the splints are correct in their descriptions, but I did think these were very cool to see.

Adaptive equipment - 0 views

  •
I was just talking to a friend that works as a COTA on the home health setting yesterday about adaptive equipment. She was telling she is always having to fabricate adaptive devices for her patients because there are just certain things they need but cannot afford. Poverty is a huge issue especially with our elderly who are living on a fixed income. We will have to work with the supplies on hand. If we can't think of it,I am sure we can find it on Pinterest :)

This photo I found on pinterest helps describe the function of our brain when we are stressed. Also, below it promotes exercising while stressed because it can trigger a good stress response and produce good antibodies and norepinephrine. By using providing this to a patient with high levels of stress this can give them an idea of tx that can reduce.

Stress relief for all of your senses - 0 views

  •
This chart is great, not only does it give you quite a few stress relief techniques, but it breaks it down to your senses! I have found that this chart really comes in handy on the really bad stressful days. The best way to use it is to try and pick something from each section(or sense) and do it! You will find that completing stress relief mechanisms in all your senses is extremely helpful!

Assistive technology for someone who is blind - 1 views

  •
This tool is to provide anyone that is blind an easy way to read brail out loud. I like this because it seems very easy to grasp, and you are able to roll it. Also, there is an optional bluetooth piece you can get with it to allows you to listen without disturbing anyone around you. You can use it to go at your own pace instead of scanning big chunks of words and having to listen to it however fast/slow the device allows.

This is a great poster on how a client and their family can make their home more wheelchair accessible. Having a sheet like this would be a great way to discuss with clients how well their home is wheelchair accessible and the changes they could make.

I posted this link awhile back on my Pinterest, I really enjoy what all this website has to offer us as future practitioners. It literally has everything from information that we can use as practitioners and information that we can give clients. This website addresses pain, ADLs, assessments, certain dx (cancer, diabetes, you name it its probably on here). I advice everyone check this site out. I feel like this site has come up before in another course but maybe I just used it.
