Good use of the bottom of the page to give links to other parts of the site. Helps make the page look 'complete'.

The grammar here isn't quite correct. It's difficult to read 'All of our operations have... well designed plant,..'

This is a long and potentially confusing sentence that could be re-worded for readability.

'Rescue Team' should possibly all be capitalized, or be all lower-case, unless the team is just called 'Rescue'.

Again, could be re-worded, to something such as "...Peace River Coal operation celebrated the achievement of One-year Lost Time Injury Free." Or, "..celebrated achieving the 'One-Year Lost Time Injury Free' milestone.

Ethos: Exemplifying this proud moment causes the reader to see more respectability in the company. This is not exactly using the company's pre-existing reputation to make a point believable, but it is making a believable point about how the company should be respected by using examples that appeal to the reader's view of the company overall.

Logos: The logical statement here implies that happy, healthy workers contribute more strength to the company itself than unhappy, injured ones, so this statement clearly states that it's in the best interests of the company to keep everyone safe. This is something that the reader can take and agree with at face value because it's an honest, logical statement.

Narration: The recounting of an event to give more insight into the company's origins.

Appeal to pathos: Speaking about the benefits for future generations gives a warm, positive feeling to the reater.

Although this sentence is intended to show company responsibility, it could backfire by creating the thought in the reader's mind that the mine processes are damaging to the environment. The use of 'affecting not only our present, but the future for generations to come' is intended to refer to the company's attention to minimizing impacts, but it could easily be interpreted to the negative effects themselves affecting generations for years to come. You could present the information in a more positive instead of a negative light, by saying what the company is doing to minimize operational impacts, without saying that the impacts are negative, and without pairing it directly with the thought that future generations are involved.

This type of yoga attracts those who are looking for a high intensity workout, and maybe did not expect that yoga could be a very athletic activity.By putting very athletic and vigourous in the same sentence a picture of a tough but appealing activity comes to mind, well appealing for those who want a intense workout.

By saying that the humdity will knock you out the first time, the reader knows that this type of yoga is not for those who are looking for a leisurely activity. It attracts those to it by clearly saying "Heads up", which implies an important point that should likely not be missed.

By simply adding heat to yoga, so much more is achieved from exercises. Many people do yoga in order to lose weight, and by adding heat that goal can be achieved all the much easier.

This paragraph gives a different aspect of yoga that most people don't think about. "Laughing uncontrollably" and "waving your hands like you just don't care" imply a fun and energetic workout, which attracts anyone that wants to have a good time. It's a great thing that kundalini yoga awakens the energy coiled up at the base of your spine. So you get energized and receive a detoxification of the body and mind.

This sentence relieves any tension or stress one may feel when they are thinking about taking up yoga. It tells the reader that if you don't feel right about doing a certain type of yoga, try a different kind. There is no pressure to keep up with the same type of yoga if your body doesn't feel right doing it. This lessens the anxiety most people feel when they are considering taking up a new activity.

In this picture a sense of community is felt. The many legs with black yoga pants on top of the colourful yoga mats with a sunset in the background give a sense of happiness and belonging. Everyone is doing the same pose which shows that anyone can do yoga. Since only legs are shown and no faces or bodies, it implies that it doesn't matter what race, age, sex or athletic ability you are, anyone can participate in yoga and become a part of a community while getting healthier.

In this picture the bright colours of the woman's clothing and the prop that is helping her with her yoga poses immediately grabs the attention of the reader. Her closed eyes imply a relaxed state, which shows that props help enhance a peace of mind and serenity.

The lush green field with the three people doing a sun salutation makes most people want to be there and do yoga. The bright sunlight in the video, with a luscious green field act as a open invitation to those who want to practice yoga. And in this video they are teaching the perfect exercise for that scenery, the sun salutation.

The light pink/peachish colour brings the readers attention to this quote. On a page that is full of black text on a white background our eyes are drawn to the saying which sticks out like a sore thumb on the web page. Also the swirly type text pulls in the reader, since the rest of the page has a standard text that is easy to read but not nearly as appealing. This quote changes everytime one opens the page, and it is also a part of the lululemon manifesto. These quotes appear on many pages of the site, and they are the attention grabing text on every page.

Here she positions herself of a leader of the Tea Party which adds considerable credibility (ethos) to her candidacy because of the Tea Party's considerable resources and growing popularity. It is important for Bachmann to identify herself as a leader as that is what people are voting for. Also note how the term "champion" is consistent with the website's continued emphasis on winning.

This sentence develops both ethos and pathos. Ethos as she is seen more reputable and trustworthy by having such a large and seemingly happy family. The main purpose here is pathos as she depicts herself as a loving and devoted humanitarian. She is portrayed here as a mother figure, someone responsible that can look after a large and diverse household (a metaphor for the United States?).This last statement develops a paradox between her portrayal throughout the passage as a tough candidate like one of the Founding Fathers, and her portrayal as a loving, responsible mother who can take care of the nation. Very Interesting.

Interestingly, this is the only line in the passage that directly points to Bachmann's uniqueness as a female candidate. Potential supporters who were unsure whether she could become the first female president will be reinforced by her being the first Republican elected to the House of Representatives from Minnesota. It achieves ethos as she becomes a more credible candidate as well as logos because "if she was the first woman from Minnesota than why can't she be the first woman president". For the female audience, it may also be pathos as she is seen as breaking down barriers to womens freedom.

The main use of rhetoric in Bachmann's opening line is "bring a new voice to the White House". The new voice rhetoric is very common among presidential candidates as it is a metaphor for change. Indirectly this new voice represents the possibility of correcting the current governmental problems. It appeals mostly to ethos as it could inspire hope in the audience. 

The sentence develops ethos and pathos in the audience. Ethos as her character and reputation is bolstered by her emphasis on education. Pathos as she highlights having started a school for at-risk kids; specifying "at-risk kids" adds emotion to the description and depicts her as empathetic. 

Here she states her stance on foreign policy. She successfully aligns herself with the Americans who seek an end to the War in Afghanistan by stating that "she has consistently advocated peace". Also she answers the critics who think she won't be tough enough by saying that "she has proudly taken a vow to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies". She shows experience and ability by having served on the Intelligence Committee (logos). "Taking a vow" appeals to emotion as it carries the connotative meaning of commitment, dedication, and marriage. 

The video introduction is a very persuasive addition to the website for several reasons:1. It provides a quick synopsis of the website that young voters and those pressed for time will greatly appreciate.2. Logos: She emphasizes having already been successful as a congresswoman. Describes herself as a hard-worker. Also note the attention to detail in having the message exactly one minute long.3. Ethos: She begins by establishing herself as an official candidate having done all the paperwork. Seems trustworthy through eye contact and fluent speech.4. Pathos:Talks about "taking your voice" to the White House and being a "winning team". Concludes by passionately telling viewers that "we can do this".

It's worth noting that she's wearing the exact same outfit from the picture in the top. This aspect is puzzles me, perhaps it's done to depict her as simple and relatable to the everyday American. Very interesting. 

Argument/PurposeThe website is intended to convince Republican delegates and all other voting-age American citizens that Michele Bachmann should become the next US President and that they should vote for her.  Audience: The audience is voting-age Americans. It is not intended for Canadians or audiences from any other nationalities.

The picture depicts Bachmann as patriotic (the flag on her collar), conservative (seems to be conservatively dressed), and happy (the big smile-ethos). It's interesting that she's not looking at the camera but rather up and to the side. Might have been done because she looks better from this angle, or potentially to show her as ambitious and aspiring. -also note her husband's smiling picture located underneath the video. He is well-dressed (ethos) and again smiling (pathos). Showing that she's married also adds to her candidacy especially among the more conservative Republicans.  

Bachmann logo found here at the top as well as at the very bottom serves to authenticate the document. It's symbolic of an official stamp or even the presidential seal. Of note are the stars (again the allusion to success and winning, as well as patriotic); the red, white, and blue classic American colours; and the red and white stripes through the 'H' in Bachmann which allude to the American flag. The authenticity of the stamp appeals to the logic (logos) of the viewer as well as adding to Bachmann's credibility (ethos). The patriotic symbolism appeals to the strong patriotic emotions of the visitors. 

The page is entitled "A Conservative Choice for President | Michele Bachmann for President". It is significant because Michele is a Republican candidate and the party is built on conservatism. She is evoking ethos as stressing herself as a "Conservative Choice" establishes her as a good fit for the party. 

The page exhibits a red, white, and blue theme. These symbolic American colours are used to evoke both pathos and ethos in visitors. Pathos as the colours appeal to emotions by giving American's a comforting patriotic feeling. Ethos as the colours help develop Bachmann's character as patriotic, loyal, and trust worthy. The colours also make it nice to read as they provide visual continuity.

also of note are the American flags hanging down from both sides which could be metaphoric of the hanging flags during the presidential inauguration

Notice how she puts social media options: email, texting, facebook, right at the top of the page where they will be seen by most visitors. This increases the accessibility to her site and updates and will be welcomed by younger voters especially. It also shows her as technically savvy and in-touch with the latest in technology (ethos).  

It's interesting the attention being payed to social media in the wake of Obama being so effective using these tools in the last election

Another purpose of the site is to bring in donations from supporters to fund her campaigning. Notice how the donate button is coloured red so to stand out and draw attention. The red colour actually makes the audience want to click it, especially as it stands out from the other white tabs. It's that red button that we all want to press.

Pictures of Bachmann speaking with people in the community are persuasive by developing logos, ethos, and pathos. Logos: seeing her speaking with seemingly everyday people adds support to her claims of being "the voice of the people". Ethos: the pictures make her appear more trustworthy and reputable. especially the picture of her shaking a woman's handPathos: She is again smiling in the pictures which evokes happiness. She is also photographed speaking with hand gestures which shows passion. 

Notice the applauding crowd in the background; the viewer assumes that the crowd is applauding for Bachmann and this provokes ethos as her credibility is enhanced by the image. It is also potentially pathos as it can be seen as a metaphoric image of a crowd during a (presidential) victory speech. The symbolic image of the victory speech evokes happy emotions of winning; relate it back to the video where she calls it "a winning team".

the audience almost seems to be looking up and towards the webpage, as if applauding Bachmann's message

Here she documents her considerable experience with the tax system (logos). It serves to back her claims at being able to reform the tax system. Also we again see her aligning with the middle-class.
