Alternative to Google, I like the way that after entering the search term, Duck, Duck Go provides different options to search under. Great for students as it gets them to clarify their search term.

Internet Safety With Professor Garfield currently offers an animated lesson on cyberbullying and an animated lesson about online safety. As you might guess from the site's title, the lessons feature Garfield. Both lessons use the same model in which students watch a cartoon, take an informal quiz, then try to apply their new knowledge to a few different scenarios.

Whiz Kid Games is a "portal for autistic children. The games are a free resource that aim to help autistic children to develop independent living skills." There are sixteen games to choose from- each targeting a specific area such as waiting, choosing the correct clothes to wear based on the weather, sorting items, coping with change, etc

That's Not Cool is a website designed to teach young adults that online and mobile phone behavior is real behavior with real consequences. That's Not Cool has three primary features; videos, discussion forum, and call out cards. More suitable for Stage 4 and 5. I like the videos... not sure about the call out cards

What is your school's approach to cyber-safety and what methods are you using to educate your students, parents and staff about online safety?

I agree, I think it is definitely something that we as educators need to take some responsibility for... and as you mentioned the ACMA have produced some wonderful resources.

Our school has made internet safety a focus for the last 3 years in a number of ways.....

Firstly our Stage 3 students have participated in ACMA workshops for the last three years, we have also run both staff and parent workshops... again supported by ACMA.

All students K- 6 have also participated in school facilitated cyber-safety workshops and our teachers are currently implementing the modules produced by ACMA.

Our Year 6 students have also participated in the Cybersmart Detective Program .. which again was a great experience.

I would strongly encourage all schools to take advantage of the terrific resources out there and dont wait till you have an issue before you do something about net safety........ Be Proactive!!!!

And yes ... perhaps it is something that we could explore at the next LT network day.
