Design Thinking for Educators - 0 views

  •
The very cool IDEO methodology Kenny mentioned in a discussion during our course: It is a mindset Design Thinking is the confidence that everyone can be part of creating a more desirable future, and a process to take action when faced with a difficult challenge. That kind of optimism is well needed in education.

ADDIE Model | Instructional Systems Design ISD - 1 views

  •
This is a pretty accessible, concise outline for using ADDIE for project management in ID. I find it interesting because there is criticism that ADDIE is not adequate for project management, but I am still not entirely sure why. This adaptation looks pretty sound.

Excel Project Management - Free Templates, Resources & Information - 2 views

  •
This site is tremendous for doing a lot of very cool things in Excel. Any time I have a new project, I always check in here to see if there is anything that can help me get my information into a eye catching and user friendly format.
  •
Nice - thanks! Looks like this has tons of useful information for a huge number of things. And I'm psyched if a product I already have and know how to use can also address project management needs pretty well...
  •
John, I have been dissatisfied until now about what Excel templates I could find for Project Management. This site really fills in the blanks for me. I know Excel extremely well but still found this quite useful!

Springpad: Everyday life, done better - 2 views

  •
Having seen the previous post on Evernote, I thought I'd add my alternative to it . I use Springpad to keep track of smaller projects on the go and various "to do" lists.
  •
I really need to bite the bullet and incorporate something like this for travel/busy weeks. Have you tried Evernote? If so, why do you prefer Springpad? Thanks.
  •
I like the Springpad interface better, but here's a good article that compares the two. http://lifehacker.com/should-i-use-springpad-or-evernote-504486764

Six Essential Skills for Managing Conflict - 0 views

  •
Great concise article on conflict management with specific strategic tips. The goal is not just to resolve conflict, but rather to work through conflict toward a productive outcome.
  •
Great article. I love the very first point - finding the common goal to concentrate on, and using your empathy to approach your adversary as you would a friend.

Evernote - 2 views

  •
Perhaps this is an obvious post, but I still run across people who don't have a searchable, organized or unorganized online notebook, notepad, or repository of anything and all things you want to remember or keep track of. I've used it for smaller projects, to contain all of the lengthy articulations that are then hyperlinked to more formal Word documents or Excel charts. It's a phenomenally useful tool.

I agree, there aren't a whole lot of tools out there to stay organized like Evernote. I use MS One Note for the same type of folder organizing and also for passwords etc.
  •
On the surface and quick glance, Evernote is like Pinterest but for your life :-) I am going to have to try it and see if it keeps me a little more organized!
  •
I need a tool like this. How long was the learning curve? Do you have any tips for getting started? Pitfalls? Thanks.
  •
I love Evernote because it's accessible from several mobile devices. I especially like their app (I'm using Android), because it's easy to use and fast. You could add multiple people to the account and share checklists, wiki-like notes pages, and calendar items. I'm not sure it would be ideal for huge projects with many parts, but it would be perfect for organizing a small collaboration or just for organizing your own work.
  •
Michael, Thanks for sharing this app and your experience with it. This tool sounds just like the tool I need to track and remember all my pending tasks.

As our list of tools, programs and sites keeps growing, so does our list of passwords. KeePass is an open-source password manager that allows you to safely store all of your passwords so you can free up mental space for more interesting work! You can keep the file in the cloud if you wish, so it is available on all of your devices.

This is great! Being able to access on all devices is key, I am totally using this, thank you!

4 Tips for Working With SMEs - 0 views

  •
No matter how great we are at creating learning solutions, we will not even get off the ground without the right content and context. Sometimes, working with SMEs can be one of the most difficult parts of the process. This article provides four great suggestions for how to effectively work with your SME.

    Great article and tips!
  •
I really enjoyed this read! Great information on communicating with SMEs and how to keep moving.
  •
The "Help them take a step back" bullet is an excellent point. A lot of times, SMEs try to put EVERYTHING about a topic in a training and if you tell them everything, they remember nothing. I use Action Mapping to keep SME's (and me) focused on what content should be taught. Great article!
  •
I like #2. So many times SMEs loose sight of the project objective. :-)
  •
Jenna, these guidelines are simple but powerful. What of the greatest challenges I had on a recent project was to get the SME to back off and take care of the content, not the learning materials. I never really succeeded but it might have helped if I had the #4 guideline instilled in our heads early in the project.
