Project Management 101 For users new to project management in general, we offer a short document entitled Project Management 101. This is a quick introductory manual which focuses on the major parts of the project management process. This document is a first stop for anyone interested in managing their projects in an efficient and organized manner. 

This site is tremendous for doing a lot of very cool things in Excel. Any time I have a new project, I always check in here to see if there is anything that can help me get my information into a eye catching and user friendly format.

John, I have been dissatisfied until now about what Excel templates I could find for Project Management. This site really fills in the blanks for me. I know Excel extremely well but still found this quite useful!

This is a link for the University of Michigan Project Management Methodology - designed for use in managing the Information and Technology Services (ITS) projects. This site has several document templates with column descriptions to help with comprehension of different steps for managing projects. It has a nice excel template for project deliverables for people who need a little help getting the ball rolling in excel.

This site offers a nice succinct, streamlined, one page PM process break down; summarized in a flow chart with links to each individual stage of the process. It also has additional links for PM books, services, and templates. A useful link for getting people started in PM.

Wow, John, what a find! I wish I had this a few months ago when we started this course. I've been looking for a simple visual that still manages to encompass most of the detail that goes into the project process. I love the printable color-coded version (http://www.consulting.ky/files/project_management_process_diagram_large.jpg). I plan on hanging that up in my office. I could also print a copy for each project, and use it as a sort of checklist. The other things I love about the site is that it lists specific deliverables for each stage. Love it! It's definitely more usable than the visuals in our Carroll book, since it's more detailed.

I'm very interested in Agile project management because I think visibility is improved, and this website is one of many that enhances visibility even more. I like it because of the clean layout and the intuitive nature. You can color code each team member and see what everyone is doing, making team meetings more effective. There is a 14 day trial, so it's worth trying out for a small portion of a project.

OneNote is a great product from Microsoft, and it's basically a digital series of binders that you can create and customize. You can create and label binders, sections, and individual pages. You can add notes, checklists, links to web pages, embed documents...almost anything you find can be placed there. The two most beneficial features: everything you put there can be made searchable, and your binders are sharable via SkyDrive (Microsoft's cloud) and by emailed link. A project manager could use this for anything from their own simple notes to an official file of collaborative information about a project! I use OneNote all the time and wonder how I managed without it! I tried Evernote, but the bugs finally drove me away and then I discovered OneNote. I don't know why Microsoft doesn't promote it better... it's a great tool!

This site uses a model based on three categories that define project management competencies. The categories have numerous sub-categories; this is a very detailed, almost to the point of confusion, visual model. Nonetheless, it breaks down every facet of project management that I can think of.

The GoToMeeting platform can be used for meetings for groups in which all teammates are not in the same location.

I have used GoToWebinar and I loved it. It is easy to use and professional looking. I am curious to try GoToMeeting and GoToTraining.

It is interesting to me that so many people like GoToMeeting/Webinar/Training. I've had mixed experiences with it. It lacks some of the functionality of other tools like Adobe Connect (chat features vary depending on which version you have, playing videos is very problematic, relies on screen sharing to share documents and do presentations). We do a lot of webinars, many with very large audiences (300-1000 people). While this is fine for meetings and daily business. I don't recommend this for large groups., It also isn't good if you want to have a virtual room when you can leave your documents, notes etc.
