Informaconnect: Bioprocessing & Manufacturing - Articles & Video - 1 views

To see the Premium articles on Covid-19 research, you'll need to create an account. This is an archive of Informa connect publications. Covid-19 publications are marked premium and require creating an account to access. I created an account and have access to the contents. However, those marked "premium" still require setting up an account. The materials are professionally published and at first, glance seem extensive and credible. They are publishing in an easy to read and dynamic 'reader' format. It is very similar to what we are doing with Rise 360. There are lessons to be learned from this group. A question for PHE/Project Apollo: Do we want to require the public to 'join' our website to see 'premium content' like our upcoming e-learning courses? I feel the way Informaconnect is leveraging the Covid-19 research to build membership is a little crass. On the other hand, the contents are impressive and the sign-up process wasn't onerous.

Design and Implementation of Participant-Led Research - Quantified Self - 0 views

  • THE QUANTIFIED SELF is about making personally relevant discoveries using our own self-collected data. We call this practice everyday science, a name that emphasizes its nonprofessional character. Lately we’ve begun organizing small group projects that show how collaboration can make individual projects easier. Sometimes, joining forces with others who share our question can make it possible to create both personal and generalizable health knowledge. Following the scholar Effy Vayena, we use the term “participant-led research” (PLR) to describe this approach.

Apollo / Chi gong? Is this our PLR.? Mainly n=1. No collaboration on a mutual research project.

This YouTube Edition should work! Here is the 'on the fly' video of our encounter with Master Lu. Jan wore the gut monitor for the short session in Oceanside. She followed up with a much longer (1 hour) session with Master Lu two days later. She was able to walk without a cane for the first time during those sessions. Subsequently she has been able to walk (in PT) barefoot without a cane.

I'll be posting some video of Janice walking shortly after seeing Master Lui (soon). ~ Dennis

Future Patient/Future Doctor - Larry Smarr, PhD and Dr. Michael Kurisu D.O. - 0 views

  •
"Computer scientist Larry Smarr and osteopathic physician Michael Kurisu present a vision for healthcare that combines the best of allopathic and osteopathic medicine by using a more personalized, hands-on, systems-based approach to treating patients. They demonstrate this proof of concept with details on how Smarr diagnosed his own Crohn's disease by using blood and stool tests to track changes in his body. And when the symptoms became too severe, Smarr collaborated with his surgeon, Sonia Ramamoorthy, MD, to plan the operation based on 3D images of his organs created at his research institute, Calit2 at UC San Diego. Kurisu then introduces Project Apollo, a group of patients inspired by Smarr who are collecting their own data to develop personalized treatments for their particular conditions. Forwarded to the Project Apollo listserve by "Dr. Michael Kurisu D.O." from Christina Mnatzaganian. This is from the UCSD Family Medicine Faculty Listserve. Hi Deepa, The statement below is from ACC/HFSA/AHA on March 17th. Essentially, there is no human data yet and data is evolving. See below, particularly the red area: *The following joint statement from the ACC, American Heart Association and Heart Failure Society of America was posted online on March 17 and addresses using renin angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS) antagonists in COVID-19. "The continued highest standard of care for cardiovascular disease patients diagnosed with COVID-19 is top priority, but there are no experimental or clinical data demonstrating beneficial or adverse outcomes among COVID-19 patients using ACE-I or ARB medications," said Richard J. Kovacs, MD, FACC. "We urge urgent, additional research that can guide us to optimal care for the millions of people worldwide with cardiovascular disease and who may contract COVID-19. These recommendations will be adjusted as needed to correspond with the latest research." Patients with underlying cardiovascular diseases appear to have an increased risk for adverse outcomes with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Although the clinical manifestations of COVID-19 are dominated by respiratory symptoms, some patients also may have severe cardiovascular damage. Angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors have been shown to be the entry point into human cells for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. In a few experimental studies with animal models, both angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) have been shown to upregulate ACE2 expression in the heart. Though these have not been shown in human studies, or in the setting of COVID-19, such potential upregulation of ACE2 by ACE inhibitors or ARBs has resulted in a speculation of potential increased risk for COVID-19 infection in patients with

The Power of Advocating Through Music | Rachelle Babler | TEDxWestMonroe - 0 views

  •
"Rachelle Babler explores the untapped powers of combining music and advocacy to create human impact. She did this after losing her sister to colon cancer to create awareness around prevention and screening. The response was overwhelming. While many have advocated through speeches, fundraisers and media, very few advocate through songwriting and music. Maybe music will be the critical voice that creates the awakening to help us unite, during times of chaos and separation. When we are divided by speech, we can be united and reunited through the power of song. Rachelle Babler grew up in Southern California near the sunny beaches of San Diego and has always been an avid explorer, traveler, musician and creative soul. At the height of her career in forensics, she quit her job cold turkey to pursue her "why" and found out what that was during a global pandemic, "TO empower others to consciously advocate, SO THAT they can heal, inspire and unite the human collective". She is a #1 International Best Selling Co-Author, Speaker, Advocate. Singer/Songwriter and proud mother to her two amazing children, Austin and Camryn. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx"
