In this episode of Got Transition Radio, guest speaker Maisy Cyr will share her experiences of what it took to manage her chronic illness while studying abroad in London.  Maisy and Radio Show hosts, Mallory and Teresa, will discuss their common struggle of wanting to make the most of exciting travel and learning opportunities while facing medical limitations.  Is the sky really the limit?  Is it possible to "shoot for the moon" while maintaining your health?

If you are interested having staff attend the iPad Summit please send an email to ddoty@mt.gov with a listing of the staff who you wish to have attend. For each staff person we must have the following information: Name, email address, and position. Each summit is limited to 25 attendees. Dates and locations subject to change depending on interest level. What:
The iPad Summit consists of led discussion and Show and Share sessions. This is not a lecture day, everyone helps to teach and learn. Attendees must have an iPad and must be familiar with how to use it. Ideally, attendees are daily users who are looking for more information.  Attendees are typically speech-language providers and special education teachers/paraprofessionals. Psychologists and OT/PTs have also attended. Lunch is on-site and is provided by OPI. When/Where:

What:
Have you ever wanted to travel back in time? Do you remember hearing about Chief Joseph's surrender speech in 1877? What else do you know about the Nez Perce Conflict of 1877? How does it connect to Montana History? How did it connect with your community? How can you find out? How can you use Primary Sources to meet the Montana Common Core Standards? BYOD and learn the "rest of the story"? Chronicling America is part of the National Digitized Newspaper Program and is probably the closest thing we have to a "Time Travel Machine". This workshop will explore how to locate Primary Sources that connect to the Nez Perce Conflict of 1877. We will use Chronicling America and Montana Historical Society resources as our primary tools. This is an excellent opportunity to learn to use primary resources with an Indian Education for All presentation.

The Family Voices National Center for Family and Professional Partnerships is hosting this webinar presented by Suzanne M. Bronheim, PhD of Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development. Suzanne will share findings from a 2010 research partnership with three Family-to-Family Health Information Centers (F2F HICs) to better understand how Hispanic/Latino families' and African American families' utilization of F2F HICs might be increased. This research project is based on a social marketing theory that suggests that people try new things if that "innovation" fits with their values and experience, seems to have an advantage over other approaches, is easy to use, can be tried and dropped if they don't like it and if others they know and trust are also aware of it and have used it. The project has used this framework to study how Hispanic/Latino and African American families prefer to receive information and how they view the F2F HICs as a resource. In addition, this project has studied similar issues for the social networks of families to learn how they view and access F2F HICs. Suzanne will be joined by staff of the F2F HICs that partnered in this project to share lessons learned and suggestions of how other F2F HICs can use this framework.

A two-day training for Supervisors of School Psychologist Class 5 Interns will be offered to Class 6 School Psychologists on Friday April 20 and Friday May 11, 2012, in Bozeman. The course is open to a limited number of participants and previous applicants are welcome to reapply. Reimbursement for travel and lodging at half double occupancy rate will be available.
