The DoD Special Needs Parent Toolkit has comprehensive information and tools that are geared towards helping military families with special needs children navigate the maze of medical and special education services, community support and benefits and entitlements.  The Toolkit is broken down into six colorful modules that can be easily downloaded and printed.   We have included important facts, records, tools and sample letters.

The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Toolkit was developed to raise awareness, promote surveillance and screening, and ensure that all affected children receive appropriate and timely interventions.

What: During this presentation listeners will learn how to get the most use from the documents in the toolkit, created to provide guidance to successfully work with a Paraprofessional in a school setting.  A paraprofessional is an aide that works one on one with a student in classes and throughout the day. Students will share their own experiences of what has worked, and challenges they faced working with paraprofessionals.  There will also be information about the process of creating these documents, what goes into running a Youth Led organization like KASA and the importance of youth involvement!  When: 4:30 PM MT

The toolkit offers best-practice tools and information regarding specific medical and behavioral concerns of adults with IDD, including resources for patients and families. The website is divided into four categories: General Issues; Physical Issues; Health Watch Tables; and Behavioral and Mental Health Issues.

The U.S. Department of Education has released a free, two-part training toolkit designed to reduce incidents of bullying, for use by classroom teachers and educators. The toolkit was developed by the Safe and Supportive Schools Technical Assistance Center, supported by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Healthy Students, in collaboration with the NEA and the American Federation of Teachers.

ASAN has prepared a comprehensive toolkit to empower people with disabilities, their families, and other disability advocates to help combat disability-based discrimination in organ transplantation.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (the "Affordable Care Act," or "ACA") (P.L. 111-148) is expected to expand health care coverage to an additional 32 million individuals through a combination of new health insurance marketplaces (formerly referred to as exchanges) and a state's option to expand Medicaid. In addition, the ACA includes a number of critical protections for consumers or beneficiaries, as well as provisions to improve the quality of care while bending the curve of health care costs.

Transitioning into adulthood can be awkward for nearly every young person. For transition-age youth with disabilities, issues surrounding managing Personal Assistance Services (PAS) can be intensified by normal developmental concerns such as striking out on your own and navigating the road into adulthood.  Accessing and maintaining long-term supports, such as PAS, has often been a significant barrier to employment youth and adults with disabilities. This new guide assists youth in strengthening some of the most fundamental skills essential for successfully managing their own PAS: effective communication, time-management, working with others, and establishing professional relationships.  Such skills are key to not only enhancing independence, but also thriving in the workplace and growing professionally. 

This session will offer an overview of the resources offered by AAC TechConnect to assist in AAC evaluations in the following ways: An overview of the unique "ACES Module and Toolkit Approach" will offer ideas for low-cost toolkits which can be assembled and used for effective AAC evaluations One-of-a-kind online clinical resources will be demonstrated for locating info at www.aacTechConnect.com for pictures/flyers/comparison charts for most AAC devices Descriptions of locale workshops including AAC Vendor Forums which are being scheduled nationally by AAC TechConnect/ATIA and hosted by local AT centers.
