Strengths-Based Coaching®: 12 hour training for coaches and leaders in the fields of early childhood, school-age, and youth. Strengths-Based Coaching®: A Journey into Coaching is a practical approach for working with adults that will fundamentally change the way coaches and leaders support and sustain quality improvements in their programs, agencies, and school districts. This training enhances the coaching role of leaders,  building on their strengths, knowledge, and skills. Strengths-Based Coaching® is based on five foundations: adult learning theory, core beliefs, how to approach others, relationship building, and communication. These five foundations lead to positive feedback that creates partnerships and builds on the strengths of staff. The Montana Autism Education Project of the Office of Public Instruction is proud to present Rudy Simone in three presentations. Simone is the author of four books on Asperger syndrome, all best-sellers. Presentation on the following topics:

Childhood, Adolescent and Adult Aspergers - This talk covers the traits and hallmarks of early childhood ASCs (autism spectrum conditions, incl. but not limited to Asperger Syndrome), adolescence and adulthood with some attention paid to how the same AS traits may manifest or be perceived differently in females.

Relationships - This talk is tailored to suit the audience: whether they are mostly couples or simply individuals on the spectrum looking for relationship advice and assistance, professionals, friends and family members. Discusses the types of challenges spectrum people face throughout life when navigating friendships, dating, cohabitating, marriage, sex and children.

Aspergers on the Job - This topic includes education and career and so is relevant for virtually all ages. Discusses how sensory, social, cognitive and physical challenges and strengths impact our work choices and experience. This presentation from the Federal Partners in Bullying Prevention Webinar Series will explore how local communities can activate partnerships to create positive change in bullying prevention. HRSA's new Bullying Prevention Training Module and Community Action Toolkit will be showcased, along with an overview of the vision behind this train-the-trainer resource for community members of all different backgrounds: elected officials, faith leaders, youth leaders, and professionals in education, health and safety, law enforcement, child care and out-of-school care, mental health and social services, local recreation offices, as well as leaders of the local business community. What:
MEA-MFT PASS is an intensive four-day course, designed to help Montana paraprofessionals meet Federal qualification standards contained in the No Child Left Behind Act. The course has been developed by and for Montana paraprofessionals and provides participants with important skills in classroom management as well as proven strategies in reading, writing, and math instruction, taught in a dynamic and fun setting. A nationally developed assessment is built directly into the four-day course, assuring that paraprofessionals who take the course can demonstrate evidence of content mastery to their local districts and the state of Montana. Course materials are taken from the nationally recognized and award winning Educational Research and Dissemination (ER&D) program, developed by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). A team of highly trained educators from throughout the state are responsible for teaching the course. Each trainer has received over 70 hours of ER&D training at the national level.

Stepping into the tension between what it takes to support people in community jobs and delivering typical day services can be daunting. Working together to explore why employment is a priority in supporting adults with developmental disabilities to have meaningful lives, and how the current day support system can move forward in increasing employment outcomes for people with developmental disabilities in Montana. We will revisit fundamental aspects of the disability system related to employment to illustrate how we've arrived at the system challenges we have in 2012. The Indian Education Division is providing a free institute explicitly modeling strategies to develop 21st Century skills through robust implementation of Indian Education for All. You will not want to miss this transformative institute employing place-based and inquiry-driven strategies to fulfill your goals of developing college and career ready skills while learning about Montana Tribes.

The instructors will guide participants through a series of experiences that model best practices and explore concepts and content embedded in the Montana Tribal Histories and Framework documents. The place and inquiry based strategies you will experience can be taken directly into your classroom, with content from any domain, to improve the quality of teaching and learning.  Bring your walking shoes, and your creative and adventuresome spirit. You will leave this workshop with renewed energy to take a leadership role in your school, implementing Indian Education for All and the Common Core Standards with both stronger content knowledge, and fantastic instructional strategies to add depth and meaning to all your school improvement efforts.

Individuals who have both mental illness (MI) and intellectual/developmental disability (IDD) present clinical challenges to professionals as well as to the systems that attempt to provide care to these individuals. Clinicians frequently have difficulty in appropriately identifying a mental health disorder, even when one exists, in persons who have limited verbal skills. This six-hour workshop is designed to provide the participant with clinical information that will help in the assessment, diagnosis and support strategies necessary to provide appropriate care for this underserved group of people. The participant will learn how mental health signs and symptoms are manifested in persons with a dual diagnosis as compared to those with only mental illness. Upon completion of this training, you will: Articulate the profile and characteristics of people with MI/IDD; Articulate vulnerability factors in people with MI/IDD; Identify best practices in assessment procedures for people with MI/IDD; Identify signs and symptoms of MI in persons with IDD; Describe the major features in the Diagnostic Manual - Intellectual Disabilities (DM-ID); Describe techniques associated with supportive therapy for persons with MI/IDD; Identify the value of the NADD Accreditation and Certification Program.
