The day will be spent exploring activities and games that model the Singapore Math philosophy. Time will be spent focusing on the four operations beginning with "ten-ness" in Kindergarten and moving up to division in intermediate grades.
Day 2: Model Drawing is one of the most powerful Singapore Math strategies. The day will be spent building understanding about the progression of Model Drawing from early concrete experiences to more in-depth problem-solving tasks. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that represents a range of symptoms from mild to severe and affects overall developmental status-in social communication and other relevant cognitive and motor behaviors. In 2013, a study released by the CDC found the number of children affected by ASD to be roughly 2% of the population, or 1 in 50. Communities of support for individuals with ASD are necessary in order to bring about effective treatment, education, and inclusion. Hear Temple Grandin, PhD, speak on autism. Dr. Grandin will be hosted by MSU's Department of Animal & Range Sciences, and her autism talk is co-sponsored by the Montana INBRE and COBRE Programs. Dr. Grandin obtained her B.A. at Frankin Pierce College and her M.S. in Animal Science at Arizona State University. Dr. Grandin received her Ph.D in Animal Science from the University of Illinois in 1989. Today she teaches courses on livestock behaviour and facility design at Colorado State University and consults with the livestock industry on facility design, livestock handling, and animal welfare. She has appeared on television shows such as 20/20, 48 Hours, CNN Larry King Live, PrimeTime Live, 60 Minutes, the Today Show, and many shows in other countries. She has been featured in People Magazine, the New York Times, Forbes, U.S. News and World Report, Time Magazine, the New York Times book review, and Discover magazine. Insurance Commissioner Monica J. Lindeen announced plans for a second public hearing on the proposed acquisition of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana (BCBS) by Chicago-based Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC). A previous hearing on February 12 gave the public an opportunity to weigh in on the proposal, which converts Montana's largest non-profit health insurer to a for-profit subsidiary of the nation's fourth largest health insurance company. Former Montana Supreme Court Justice W. William Leaphart will serve as the hearing examiner.
At the March 12 hearing, representatives from BCBS and HCSC will make their case that the proposed acquisition is in the public's interest and in compliance with state law. Both the Commissioner and the Attorney General will have an opportunity to call expert witnesses to evaluate the proposal.

This picture exchange communication system (PECS) is used to rapidly teach communication skills to those with limited functional speech. PECS pro-motes communication within a social context without lengthy prerequisite training. Training in PECS begins by teaching a spontaneous request and goes on to teach additional communicative functions such as responding to questions and comment-ing. An added attraction for preschool children with autism and related disabilities is the high proportion of children who acquire independent speech. Participants will learn how to implement the six phases of PECS, plus attributes through pre-senter demonstration, video examples and role play opportunities. Participants will leave the workshop with an understanding of how to implement PECS for the individuals with autism, related developmental disabilities and/or limited commu-nication skills.

Title IX has been in schools since 1972. It's best known for breaking down barriers in sports for women and girls. It also opens the door for girls to pursue math and science. It requires fair treatment. It protects students from bullying and sexual harassment. And it does much more. This two-day workshop examines what Title IX is and what it encompasses. From sexual harassment to bullying will be among the topics covered . . . Including athletics, academic achievement, discipline, investigation, policies, procedures, and law suits.
