NEWTON: Ask a Scientist - 0 views

This site allows you to look at hundreds of questions written by other people. There are many categories of questions, everything from Biology, to Mathematics, to computers, to Physics. Each question is answered by an expert in that field, and you can create your own questions if you are curious about something. Each question can have many replies, so you can see all sides to the answer, and it gives you a deeper understanding of the topic. I find this a useful source because it gives you interesting information by showing you popular questions. I find this site reliable because it is a government site with college professors responding, and because the information they give is consistent with what I get if I research outside of the site. I would recommend this to anyone doing scientific research for school, or to anyone interested in science in general.

A Doctor Unlocks Mysteries Of The Brain By Talking And Watching - 0 views

  •
Summary: The belief by many medical professionals is that better understanding of neuroscience will be achieved through investment in technology that focuses on such. But Dr. Allan Ropper believes that learning from talking, feeling, and watching is just as important as fancy scans and MRI's. As he talks about in his interview, administering bedside tests can, and will give you results that would have never been retrieved by using a machine. For example, Dr. Allan Ropper conducted an experimental test on a woman who was having muscle troubles, and by using a blood pressure pump, he discovered that she has a disease that weakens muscles with repeated use. The other doctors believed earlier that it was a stroke that made her feel weak, but Dr. Ropper proved them wrong. In Ropper's new book "Reaching Down the Rabbit Hole", he delves deeper into why neuroscience should use bedside tests more often, because in times like the one described, it's the only way to get the true answer.

History Fallow deer are on of the popular exotic species raised in North America. Their domesticated history extends back to the 9th century B.C., when the Phoenicians domesticated them for quality venison. For centuries, the Europeans raised them for food, and today fallow deer continue to yield fine table venison. Fallow deer farming is popular throughout the us depending on where it is legal. I have read a piece written by the NADeFA about fallow deer. The main points of this article are their history, general information, nutrition/health, and reproduction. The purpose of this article is to let people know about fallow deer. Some topics covered in this article are where they are naturally located, when they were first domesticated, looks, size, necessities, hormones, and when they give birth. This article is about fallow deer farming and the basic information about fallow deer. This article is full of good useful information for anyone who wants to know about the history, general information, nutrition, and reproduction of fallow deer. This site has an ok amount of good information. Compared to other sites I have used this article could of had more writing but still answered what I wanted to know about fallow deer. This information is reliable, relevant for my learning, and comes from a good source. I would recommend this site. This source was helpful to me because it answered what I wanted to know about fallow deer. This information had directed my learning by making me want to know more abut fallow deer and the agricultural side to fallow deer. Someone could use this source to find out the basics about fallow deer. Vermont Public Radio "Does Your Dog Really Like You?" - 0 views

  •
This VPR radio program visits the topic of emotion in animals. Virginia Morell is an animal researcher and author of the book "Animal Wise: The Thoughts and Emotions of Our Fellow Creatures." Morell studies the emotions of different animals and their means for communicating those emotions. The large topic of interest in this short VPR news special is about whether humans have a special connection with dogs. Morell's answer is yes, dogs and humans have a similar way of communicating with facial cues and body language which makes our two species somewhat appealing to one another. This helps my research a lot in that it brings out not only the similarities between K-9s and humans but also the mysterious draw of one animal to the other. Since the domesticated dog is so closely related to the wolf, it is true that wolves have similar body language, facial expression and social behavior tendencies. Morell speaks about her topic of expertise with great ease and it is fun to listen to because she is so smart.

Create Your Own Jeopardy Template Online - 0 views

This is a site to make-your-own jeopardy games. I have used it to make review materials for the Brain Bee club I am in when I am leader of the day. It does not provide information, but if you write the questions and answers it will format your information into an interactive game that can record points for any number of teams. This site is a little different from others in that it is not necessarily reliable or unreliable because that depends on the information you put in it. It is not a source of information, but a way for you to communicate information you already have. I have found this simple site to be very helpful. I imagined myself doing a boring powerpoint when I was leader of the day, but this site gave me another option. It made sharing my expertise an activity that could involve the whole group in a fun way.

Colonists coming to the New World - 0 views

  •
The main points in this article are the settlements, population sources, the relationships with Native Americans, government, religion, and economy and population growth for the English, French and Spanish Colonies. The purpose of this article is to show the similarities and differences between the English, French and Spanish Colonists during the founding of the New World. There are many topics covered in this article, however the most important topic is the colonists and how they are different even though they came from the same continent: Europe. This articles is a comparison of the three colonists groups and which group would be the best suited to colonize the New World. This is a very useful source to use as notes or to help you debate a certain side, because it shows you the group's strong points as well as the drawbacks. Other sources that I have used only talk about on group of colonists and you really have to dig for answers, whereas this site is organized in a chart and all the information is right in front of you. This was very useful for my U.S. History class because this website showed the different groups of European colonists and their strengths and weaknesses.
