If a nonprofit dabbles in web design this is more specific to design choice for the web creator but it was worth the inquiry for myself. Drupal has been proven to better the better choice for a larger organization that wants more features. Wordpress has held an advantage for the smaller startups for ease of use. There is a convergence between the two that is occurring but Drupal still maintains a lead. The problem with the more complex applications in a site is that it will require more maintenance which a very small nonprofit or company would seek to avoid. I generally consider it very difficult to maintain a mobile web solution and keep a good selection of applications running without some expert support. The old standard of a simple website appears to be waning quickly. The choice now appears to be how much work you want to pay your website manager to do rather than determining if you need one.

California would be leading the charge for individuals online privacy rights, with a bill currently in the house that can be likened to the "no call list". The bill would not allow companies to track your online habits, as most do now, in order to provide web sites with advertisements based on your previous web history. This legislation is mirroring legislation at the federal level, as the Obama Administration has stated its interest in creating a "privacy bill of rights".

This is the future phone generation for 2012 in the USA... This will probably have an immediate blunt impact on mobile web needs for nonprofits and profits

I'm always up for something fun and helpful. With the social web, there are some tried and true ways that I approach cause marketing and raising money for nonprofits.   

This report indicates what trends dominate older users of social media. The main argument here is whether or not using social media to interact with NPO volunteeers and clients is worthwhile. The research indicates that it is a worthwhile endeavor. The important thing to bear in mind as far as older users are concerned, is making organizational web sites extremely accessible and user-friendly.

I think to a certain extent it is important to incorporate new social media into npo's its a easier way to reach out to volunteers and clients, its mostly about how you as a supervisor manage the usage from your employees.

Only 16% of nonprofits expect to be ready for mobile devices in 2011 so there is tremendous opportunity in 84% of nonprofits. Mobile web use increased 230% from 2008 to 2009 which indicates that many more people are impressed with mobile computing devices and it is here to stay for a while. Websites without mobile connectivity are essentially going to be out-of-date now.

My final bookmark in my series on the use and future of technology in government funded public education. Talks about teaching using tech tools they already have like webcams, audio recorders, blogs, and other Web 2.0 tools in their quest to boost the literacy in their students.

This is a nice list of useful cutting edge mobile tools. Mobile web seems to have the most immediate impact potential in the sector for 2011. I personally like bump with lets you share contact lists instantly. There is so many new mobile applications coming out that you need to hunt.

A secure VPN to share files, Instant messaging to cover long distance calling, web conferencing for a more personal long distance interaction if and when needed , VoIP and PBX which might be the most prominent. Keeping the workforce strongly connected over long distances makes people more productive and happier.

I think this best represents the standard platform but there is much more available now ( look to mobile for growth )

This site is all about Yugma, signup and use for virtual net meetings... I am still unclear how this integrates with Skype for instance... It is multiple platform capable .... Linux,Mac,Windows and that might prove important.... I was disappointed by a 3 person use maximum however.... This service is a bit more revenue driven than some other cloud services which are easier to get for free
