Chinese government-sponsored hackers took down Change.org with a DDoS campaign after the site registered over 100,000 signatories on a petition in favor of the imprisoned Chinese artist. Ai Weiwei had been known for his role in the construction of the Beijing Olympic stadium and as China's leading digital activist and a pioneer in the use of blogging and Twitter in China."

A staring point on setting up an email campaign in concert with a website. It is quickly apparent how many things are connected to and or dependent on a successful website in a successful nonprofit. Email marketing can be done without a website but it is going to have more value in conjunction with the website definitely.

In getting ready to fully utilize social media and online tools for his upcoming campaign, Obama is holding a town hall meeting at Silicon Valley. Facebook users have been sending in their questions for the President and more than 36,000 users have said they will virtually attend the meeting held today that will include Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerburg. Obama will surely utilize social media tools alike Facebook and twitter to get his message out there for next years campaign. This is a great example of participatory government in the context of online social media.

It has spawned some senators to call for its removal because it "exaggerates the problem" faced on the borders. U.S. Rep. Silvestre Reyes, D-El Paso, has spearheaded the campaign for its removal, citing it as a waste of tax payer dollars as well as breeding hate speech and other such things.

mGive teams up with GetLisa to provide regional carriers the ability to use mobile giving campaigns in small rural areas.

Students at Western Connecticut State University had a class project where they helped 3 local nonprofits. They helped introduce new forms of social media that would help them create a web presence. Social media strategies were also given.
