This article talks about how technology is improving our ability to respond to disasters around the world. Specifically it talks about how technology like SMS and twitter allowed rescue efforts to happen quicker and more efficiently. I think it's cool how with all this new technology we have the ability to save more lives and do more in times of disaster. Families were able to communicate with those in Haiti more than they would have been able to before this technology was available. Also, that with tools like SMS, donations were able to be set up for non-profits to assist in recovery efforts. People are probably more likely to donate if they can do it with something as simple as sending a text message, and organizations will be able to receive the money quicker. Cool article.

As the cell phone becomes more affordable to the rest of the world, people with no bank accounts, or those who have to spend a lot of money to go to a bank have found an easier way to carry out transactions.

I think this is similar to what i have at my credit union its called audio teller where we have an automated number we can call during or after banking hours to manage our accounts, I love it and couldnt live without it!! : )

This article describes the advances that public schools have made in technology in the classroom, and also charts who has access and who does not. For example, how many computers per student are available in one school may vary considerably to a similar school in a poorer district.

This report indicates what trends dominate older users of social media. The main argument here is whether or not using social media to interact with NPO volunteeers and clients is worthwhile. The research indicates that it is a worthwhile endeavor. The important thing to bear in mind as far as older users are concerned, is making organizational web sites extremely accessible and user-friendly.

I think to a certain extent it is important to incorporate new social media into npo's its a easier way to reach out to volunteers and clients, its mostly about how you as a supervisor manage the usage from your employees.

This is site that non-profits can join and access different technologies that would help the organization reach its goals. TechSoup is the name of the organization that runs this and it has many partners that donate these different forms of technology. This technology is availiable to all nonprofits that qualify. check it out.

I enjoyed this journal, its a guide that most NPO's should follow when thinking about using social media sites for there organization.
