On March 16th, 2011 Sir Ken Robinson presented a talk to the Learning Without Frontiers community followed by an audience discussion where he was joined by Mick Waters, Curriculum Foundation and Keri Facer, Professor of Education, MMU. Here are the edited highlights of that talk:

Ken Shelton presents a workshop on ways to use Google Earth in your curriculum. Ken teaches middle school in Los Angeles Unified School District. Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining (and profoundly moving) case for creating an education system that nurtures creativity, rather than undermining it. With ample anecdotes and witty asides, Robinson points out the many ways our schools fail to recognize -- much less cultivate -- the talents of many brilliant people.

Audience response systems are widely used for education, but not commonly in Australia. It is hoped that removing the complication and expense of clickers will encourage the use of this teaching aid in Australian educational institutions. VotApedia is intended for co-located audiences but also works with remote audiences which has previously been a different class of application. Surveys are in a multiple choice question (MCQ) form. Has relevance for the Australian audience too

We are driven by curiosity. It is an innately human quality that has driven us to explore, ask questions, investigate, wonder why and search for a deeper understanding. In a very fundamental way curiosity is the driver of all self-directed learning. It is our desire to find out more, unlock new knowledge and answer our questions (big ones and little ones) that compels us to learn. Sir Ken Robinson famously and provocatively asked "Do Schools Kill Creativity?". The same question might be asked about curiosity.
