Information Literacy and Engaging the 21st Century Learner - 4 views

  •
This video highlights ways in which educators (and parents) can incorporate 21st century skills in their lessons to digital natives. Admittedly, as a teacher, I get overwhelmed by all of the information out there and feel pressure to use technology that I'm still learning to be comfortable with. This is a good video that can show you how to get started, geared more towards middle/upper school.

This is a TedTalk from 2006 featuring Richard Baraniuk discussing Connexions, his open-source, online education program. I found it interesting to hear the logic behind his platform, which has been in planning for 6.5 years. He addresses many benefits - publishing on demand books, saving money, customized and differentiated learning, interactive pages, etc. He also speaks to the issue of quality control of sharing information. While I watched this video, I thought to myself that it really is becoming a small world where everyone is connected, just like for this course. Even though online education and sharing is a great idea and is very prominent today, I couldn't help but wonder at what costs are its effects -> job loss.
