The key functions of the Open Access Button are finding free research, making more research available and also advocacy. Have not tried yet, but seems interesting.

This looks really exciting as an open tool for storing and sharing info without internet! 

The home of the U.S. Government's open data Here you will find data, tools, and resources to conduct research, develop web and mobile applications, design data visualizations, and more. This tool is very powerful for researchers that may not access to the funds and resources of researchers from well funded universities or that of the US Government. This resources breaks the data out into 21 different topics covering areas from education to the ocean. Each section has data sets to choose from and access to grant information as well as articles and updates on each topic. Even it you are someone that does not have the capacity to use these resources, I believe that it is good to know where to find this source so that you can share it with others, or perhaps one day you will have the ability to use this resource more fully.

This site is really inspiring, I follow Andrzej since he got this page, I really like how he has analyzed the psychological typology of players. A teacher is a life long learner, in fact, everyone should be a lifelong learner, but the difference between us ( teachers and educators ) and others is that we have no choice but to be life long learners. We can not stop learning for fear that we might be outrun by our students.

Interesting way to frame teachers' life long learning: "for fear that we might be outrun by our students". The author also tells teachers that they need to lead students, "not lag behind". These ideas bring up interesting questions around self-directed learning and participatory learning environments, which might actually celebrate times when students outrun their teachers by finding new tools and solutions and leading their teachers in different directions.

In thinking about the Wayback Machine and archiving webpages, this new tool brings to light archival possibilities for social media.

Wow, great article! This really complements the ideas we have been talking about this week regarding digital preservation. I've been thinking a lot about the idea of preserving and accessing closed social networks of the past this week, and didn't even think to make the connection to this weeks' readings until now. I actually introduced my roommate to the Wayback Machine this week and together we were able to find her tacky old Lord of the Rings themed archived geocities website (and it was even worse that I could have imagined! hilarity ensued.) Of course, we were able to access something like geocities because it's a website that's open and available to the public. But what about a social network that requires a username and password? I recently tried to see if I could access my old myspace profile, and was shocked to find that myspace has transformed itself into a music-sharing site with none of the old social networking features it used to have. The information that used to be contained -- and the interactivity that went along with it -- are gone! Not to mention that, if it were searchable via a tool like the Wayback Machine, one would need to remember the *exact* URL to find it (for this sad, sad, reason, I have not been able to find my tacky old geocities website from way back when). This is a great idea and I look forward to seeing how the project evolves. Thanks for sharing!

In Module 4, one of the activities is to complete the open multimedia searching exercise. The assignment description contains a nice and well sorted list of internet resources. "Commons", the multimedia repository of Wikimedia contains exclusively material with an open license, CC-BY-SA or GFDL.

Why invest lots of time, effort and energy creating new course materials from scratch when quality, freely-available resources may already exist? Why not adapt and use these resources, known as Open Educational Resources (OER)?

Mahara is an open source ePortfolio and social networking web application. The stated aim is to personalize learning with freely accessible, high-quality, curated resources.

As we move toward an era of openness, where information is instant and infinite, it is not enough to simply have the tools and skills to access information. We must make meaning, not only through analysis and critical thinking, but also by engaging directly with knowledge, by taking it apart, putting it together, by sharing it, and by creating it.

It is an amazing presentation. Changing people attitude toward the value of knowledge and make them more involved in creating it is coming.
