Former Sharks scrumhalf Ryan Walker has been battling the "relentless" disease for two years. He was diagnosed following a bout of meningitis in 2012 while working on his family's cattle and vegetable farm in Mooi River, KwaZulu-Natal. He is the fourth South African rugby player to have contracted the disease in the past five years.
