'Laura B.' was almost certainly Laura Bailey, the daughter of William Shreve Bailey (1806-1886) of Campbell County, a Kentucky mechanic and abolitionist. He published the Newport News (est. 1839), the Kentucky Weekly News (1851-1858), and The Free South (1858-1866).
