California AB 307 requires district technology plans to 'include a component to educate pupils and teachers on the appropriate and ethical use of information technology in the classroom.' Governor Arnold Scharzenegger's Executive Order S-06-09 established a California ICT Digital Literacy initiative, asserting that 'it is an important goal to ensure that California residents are digitally literate.' Similarly, the federal S 1492 Broadband Data Improvement Act (Public Law 110-385), also titled Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act, mandates that all schools receiving e-rate discounts must teach students "about appropriate online behavior, including interacting with other individuals on social networking sites and in chat rooms and cyberbullying awareness and response." NRICH is a website featuring activities to challenge and engage kids with math problems, games, and projects set in relevant contexts. The site is divided into four student homepages representing the "5 Key Stages," or grade bands within the British education system, and corresponding U.S. K-12 grade level info is available.

Everyone wants Bart. Or SpongeBob. Or one of those Aqua Teen Hunger Force dudes. Each year, student yearbook editors from across the country call the Student Press Law Center to ask how they can get an image of Bart Simpson (of the FOX-TV animated show, "The Simpsons") - or whoever the cartoon character de jour happens to be - into their yearbook or other publication without running afoul of copyright law. They usually receive both some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that they may not be able to use Bart in precisely the way they had hoped. Bart is a copyrighted image and federal copyright law restricts its use. The good news, however, is that with a little extra work, planning and creativity, it should be possible to legally include Bart in some way.

"Planning to use Google Presentations with your students this year? The video tutorials below are definitely worth checking. There are a plethora of reasons why you would need to start using this presentation software. First, Google Presentation is web based and therefore does not require any software installation. It is also part of Google Drive productivity suite and as such it is integrated with other services such as Docs, Sheets, Forms, and Drawing.
