Differentiation Meets Digital Technology « literacy beat - 4 views

  •
Differentiating instruction is a time-tested way of thinking about meeting students' needs as they make progress toward achievement or learning targets.  Differentiation is an elegant mindset that suggests to teachers a framework that permits them to engage students while focusing on learning results, and digital technologies offer many opportunities to differentiate instruction in meaningful ways.  However, differentiating instruction takes a concerted planning effort on our parts as teachers and teacher educators

With their help, and that of generous volunteers, he's become a lawyer, an academic, and, most of all, a voracious reader. Welcome to the blind reading revolution."

What Does Writing for Students with Significant Disabilities Look Like? - 1 views

  •
"What does writing for students with significant disabilities look like? How can we engage them in the process of writing? It is important not to mistake tasks that develop matching, memorizing, copying or fine motor skills with the learning process of writing. Students with disabilities need to experience the same processes as those without when developing writing. They need to scribble and explore and progress from being emergent to conventional writers."

VisualBlooms - home - 2 views

A Visual Representation of Bloom's Taxonomic Hierarchy with a 21st Century Skills Frame. For the record...this is an implementation point, a discussion starter. Those of us that provide staff development around instructional technology have identified a need to share more than just tools with teachers. To evaluate them based on Bloom's Taxonomy is simply a way to connect the tools to those that would be identified with the Affective, Psychomotor, or Cognitive domains--specifically the Cognitive. The visual that you see here is the seed of discussion. There are other models in the section to the left called "Ideas for the Visual." I would hope that the critical analysis of what we've started here includes attention to the fact that we are building something from the ground up, starting conversations and collaborating around doing what's best for kids and teachers. This is a work in progress and will continue to evolve.

Stage'D! - 2 views

  •
What is Stage'D? Stage'd is a digital toy for creating animated comics. We want to make telling your stories easier. Being big comic and animation nerds ourselves we decided one fateful night to have a go at creating a mash-up. Stage'D is definitely a work-in-progress, but already there's lots of fun to be had. You can pick characters and choose costumes for them. Then you can pick from a library of animations for them to perform, and don't forget to give'em some dialog! Pick some scenery and you officially have a comic, easy as that. All that's left is to share it with the world. When you've saved your comic you can e-mail it to your friends, or just take the link and share it yourself on Facebook, Twitter or anyplace else! "

Science on the Simpsons - 1 views

  •
These clips from The Simpsons cartoons are intended for use by science teachers. It is recommended that you download and archive each clip that you would like to use. The clips are in MPEG (.m4v) format and should play on iTunes, Quicktime Player, and many other free video players like VLC. They are a great way to liven up a slide presentation and should import into PowerPoint and Keynote. The posting and use of theses clips for educational purposes conforms with fair use of the copyright act. This website is a work in progress. If you have ideas for Science on the Simpsons clips, please email me a short description, the title of the episode, and the season number if possible."
