Funded by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and administered by Creative Capital, the Arts Writers Grant Program was launched in 2006 to support emerging and established writers who engage with issues of contemporary visual art. Through the program, published authors who identify as art historians, artists, critics, curators, or journalists, or who are writers in an outside field and are strongly engaged with the contemporary visual arts, can apply for grants ranging between $15,000 and $50,000. Grants will be awarded in four categories: articles, blogs, books, and short-form writing.

Creative Capital is accepting applications for its 2018 Arts Writers Grant Program, which supports both emerging and established writers who are writing about contemporary visual art. Grants of up to $50,000 in four categories - articles, blogs, books, and short-form writing - will support projects that address both general and specialized art audiences. The program also supports art writing that engages criticism through interdisciplinary methods or experiments with literary styles. To be eligible, an arts writer must be an individual applying who writes about contemporary visual art, or an art historian, artist, critic, curator, journalist, or practitioner in an outside field who is strongly engaged with the contemporary visual arts; a U.S. citizen, permanent resident of the United States, or holder of an O-1 visa; at least twenty-five years old; and a published author (specific publication requirements vary depending on grant category).

Founded in 1981, the Ucross Foundation in Sheridan, Wyoming, provides uninterrupted time, work space, and living accommodations to competitively selected visual artists, writers, and composers from all over the world. The foundation currently is accepting applications for its 2019 Fall Residency program, which runs from August to December. Residencies vary in length from two weeks to six weeks. At any one time, there are up to nine individuals in residence - a mix of visual artists, writers, and composers.  In most cases, studios are separate from living quarters. Lunch and dinners are prepared Monday to Friday by a professional chef with ample provisions on hand for breakfasts and weekends. In addition, there is cell phone service on the property and several wireless Internet connection sites are available for resident use. Residents are responsible for providing their own working materials and for their travel to Sheridan. While there is a $40 nonrefundable application fee, there is no charge for a residency. Artists, writers, and composers from around the United States and the world, in any stage of their professional career, are invited to apply to work on an individual or collaborative project. The Fine Arts Work Center offers a unique residency for writers and visual artists in the crucial early stages of their careers. Located in Provincetown, Massachusetts, an area with a long history as an arts colony, the Work Center provides seven-month Fellowships to twenty Fellows each year in the form of living/work space and a modest monthly stipend. Residencies run from October 1 through April 30. Fellows have the opportunity to pursue their work independently in a diverse and supportive community of peers. A historic fishing port, Provincetown is situated at the tip of Cape Cod in an area of spectacular natural beauty, surrounded by miles of dunes and National Seashore beaches. Program: Fellows are expected to live and work in Provincetown during the fellowship year. Optional group activities provide Fellows with the opportunity to meet program committee members as well as visiting artists and writers. The Stanley Kunitz Common Room is the site of frequent presentations by distinguished guests, as well as readings by writing Fellows. Visual arts Fellows present shows in the Work Center's Hudson D. Walker Gallery. Visiting artists and writers engage in dialogue with Fellows throughout the year. The Fine Arts Work Center also seeks to identify local and national venues for Fellows and former Fellows to share their work.

Through NEH-Mellon Fellowships for Digital Publication, the National Endowment for the Humanities and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation jointly support individual scholars pursuing research projects that require digital expression and digital publication. To be eligible for this special opportunity, an applicant's plans for digital publication must be essential to the project's research goals. That is, the project must be conceived as digital because the nature of the research and the topics being addressed demand presentation beyond traditional print publication. Successful projects will likely incorporate visual, audio, and/or other multimedia materials or flexible reading pathways that could not be included in traditionally published books.

The Prairie Ronde Artist Residency is located in historic Vicksburg, Michigan, near Kalamazoo. The residency offers access to the 420,000-square foot former Lee Paper Company paper mill and its adjacent 80 acres of property to use as inspiration. From the French meaning "round meadow," the residency is named for the swaths of grasses and wildflowers that once dotted the landscape of southwest Michigan. First settled in 1831, Vicksburg is a quaint, rural village surrounded by lush agricultural land dotted with lakes, stands of hardwood forests, and gently flowing streams. Through the program, visual artists, writers, and musicians will receive a $2,000 stipend, a $500 travel grant, and the private use of a car for a residency of between four and seven weeks. Artists are encouraged to use Prairie Ronde's close ties to members of the village community and the area's creative community and ask that artists propose a community "give back" such as a workshop, final show, or open studio days, as well as donate a piece of work to the Prairie Ronde collection.

The Gene D. Cohen Award, sponsored by the National Center for Creative Aging (NCCA), recognizes and honors the seminal work of Dr. Gene Cohen, whose research in the field of creativity and aging has shifted the conceptual focus from a problem paradigm to one of promise and potential. Dr. Cohen has inspired us to approach longevity asking what wonders can be achieved, not in spite of age, but because of age. The award is presented annually to a professional whose research in the field of creativity and aging demonstrates these positive attributes. The Embassy of the United States of America in Argentina invites proposal submissions to create a curriculum for English language students of intermediate and advanced ability to study both English and journalism, based on the UNESCO publication Journalism, 'Fake News' and Disinformation: A Handbook for Journalism Education and Training ("Curriculum"). The Lighthouse Works' Fellowship is an artist-in-residence program that strives to support artists and writers working in the vanguard of their creative fields. We are proud to have supported these artists, writers, and composers with the time and space to focus on their creative work.   The program accepts artists working in a wide range of disciplines, but we are best able to accommodate visual artists and writers. Fellowships are six weeks in length, occur year round and provide fellows with housing, food, studio space, a $250 travel allowance and a $1,500 stipend. Artistic excellence is the primary criteria for acceptance as a Lighthouse Works fellow.

The program supports both emerging and established writers who are writing about contemporary visual art with grants ranging from $15,000 to $50,000 in three categories - articles, books, and short-form writing. Grants are intended to support projects that address both general and specialized art audiences, from short reviews for magazines and newspapers to in-depth scholarly studies. The program also support art writing that engages criticism through interdisciplinary methods or experiments with literary styles. As long as he/she meets the eligibility and publishing requirements, any writer can apply. Writers who meet the program's eligibility requirements are invited to apply in one of the following categories: articles, books, or short-form writing. The Headlands Center for the Arts campus comprises a cluster of artist-rehabilitated military buildings just north of the Golden Gate Bridge at historic Fort Barry in the Marin Headlands, a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The center's programs support artists in all disciplines - from visual artists to performers, musicians, writers, and videographers - and provide opportunities for independent and collaborative creative work. The center currently is inviting applications for its Artist in Residence program. Through the program, fully sponsored residencies that include a monthly stipend of $500 will be awarded to approximately fifty local, national, and international artists at the cutting edge of their fields whose work has the potential to impact the cultural landscape at large. Residencies run from four to ten weeks and include round-trip airfare, up to 2,000-square-foot studios, five chef-prepared meals per week, access to vehicles as well as basic woodshop; audio/video equipment; an artists' library with computer, scanner, and printer; and field trips to Bay Area museums, galleries, and cultural venues. There is an application fee of $25. Eligible artists may be at any stage their career and work in any media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, dance, music, interdisciplinary, social practice, and architecture.

The Hodder Fellowship will be given to artists and writers of exceptional promise to pursue independent projects at Princeton University during the academic year. Potential Hodder Fellows are composers, choreographers, performance artists, visual artists, writers or other kinds of artists or humanists who have "much more than ordinary intellectual and literary gifts"; they are selected more "for promise than for performance." Given the strength of the applicant pool, most successful Fellows have published a first book or have similar achievements in their own fields; the Hodder is designed to provide Fellows with the "studious leisure" to undertake significant new work.

The Program does not provide any funding to participants, including for such items as salaries, materials, completion of the envisioned works, or any other purpose.

The Big Read supports organizations across the country in developing community-wide reading programs which encourage reading and participation by diverse audiences. These programs include activities such as author readings, book discussions, art exhibits, lectures, film series, music or dance events, theatrical performances, panel discussions, and other events and activities related to the community's chosen book or poet. Activities focus on one book or poet from The Big Read catalog.

The University of Leicester is inviting applications for funded PhD studentships starting autumn 2014 in a range of arts and humanities disciplines.

The Vilcek Foundation will award three prizes of $50,000 each to young fashion professionals who demonstrate outstanding early achievement. Recipients are selected by a diverse group of jurors-artists, curators, professors, writers-based on the strength of the materials submitted in this application as well as the perceived adherence to the spirit of the grant: to assist under recognized artists. Awards include a cash grant, ranging from $5,000 to $30,000 and an exhibition at PAAM. The late Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed studied with Hans Hofmann in both New York and Provincetown. They were very active at PAAM as artist members and instructors in the summer school, and they served on a variety of committees throughout their 50 years on Cape Cod. Orlowsky, in particular, was sensitive to the challenges artists face, especially those working against the mainstream or outside of popular schools of art. Her desire to provide financial support to mature artists through this generous endowment gift speaks to her passionate commitment to art for art's sake and art created regardless of the demands and whims of the market place.

For this open call, we want to discover ideas that grow immersive storytelling to advance the field of journalism-that inform and encourage news organizations to innovate, experiment and learn. We believe that developing lessons around this emerging area can help journalists extend and deepen their impact. We want projects that use immersive storytelling to fuel innovation and new ideas, while addressing the many open questions facing this nascent industry. We're not prescriptive in what your project should be. We welcome all kinds of ideas, from new ways to produce and apply the technology, to the workflows, roles and skills required to create better journalism and enhanced storytelling techniques, to promoting ethics, transparency and accountability. We encourage collaboration on projects that will help advance the field. Our focus is not on funding content. We are primarily looking for projects that will yield lessons and "how-tos" for the field of journalism and encourage reporters and editors to think differently.
