The Eberly Family Special Collections Library on the University Park campus of Penn State offers travel awards of $1,500 for researchers whose work would benefit from access to the collections held at Penn State. Currently, three travel grants are available: The Dorothy Foehr Huck Research Travel Award: Supports one award for researchers using any collection from the Special Collections Library. The Helen F. Faust Women Writers Research Travel Awards: Supports two awards for researchers working on a project including women writers that would benefit from use of the Eberly Family Special Collections Library's collections The Albert M. Petska Eighth Air Force Archives Research Travel Award: supports one award for researchers working on a project pertaining to history of the Eighth Air Force during World War II.

The Gene D. Cohen Award, sponsored by the National Center for Creative Aging (NCCA), recognizes and honors the seminal work of Dr. Gene Cohen, whose research in the field of creativity and aging has shifted the conceptual focus from a problem paradigm to one of promise and potential. Dr. Cohen has inspired us to approach longevity asking what wonders can be achieved, not in spite of age, but because of age. The award is presented annually to a professional whose research in the field of creativity and aging demonstrates these positive attributes. A. Noam Chomsky Global Connections Awards celebrate the power of human connections. The awards recognize distinguished service to the global mission of the STAR Scholars Network. Several individuals with a deep impact on advancing global, social mobility are recognized every year. We live in a time when innovation and creativity in support of humanity are of great importance. The Star Scholars Network recognizes the commitment of concerned people able and willing to make a difference in the lives of others. Nominations for this award are solicited from around the world. The nominee can be from any field. Beginning in 2020, the Star Scholars Network is committed to promoting transnational research, or collaborative research between scholars of two or more countries (e.g., joint publications, research partnerships, etc.). The Global Connections Awards recognize STAR Scholars for their achievements and distinctive contributions to translational research that demonstrates the very best of scholarly collaboration among scholars around the world. The National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP) is a partnership between NEH and the Library of Congress to create a national digital resource of historically significant newspapers published between 1690 and 1963, from all the states and U.S. territories. This searchable database will be permanently maintained at the Library of Congress (LC) and will be freely accessible via the Internet. (See the Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers website.) An accompanying national newspaper directory of bibliographic and holdings information on the website directs users to newspaper titles available in all types of formats. During the course of its partnership with NEH, LC will also digitize and contribute to the NDNP database a significant number of newspaper pages drawn from its own collections. Forty-five states and one territory have joined the NDNP so far. NEH intends to support projects in all states and U.S. territories. Awards are made to an organization within each U.S. state or territory, which typically collaborates with relevant state partners in this effort. After their initial NDNP awards, state partners are encouraged to seek second and third awards, to produce a total of approximately 300,000 pages of digitized newspapers per state. Awardees may receive support for continued work beyond the third award, but the program gives priority to applications from those states and territories that have not received NDNP funding-as well as applications from states and territories that have received fewer than three awards.

As teachers and scholars within the discipline and within CCCC undertake increasingly complex research projects, the nature of grant applications submitted to CCCC for research funding has changed. A greater number are submitted each year. But more important, the quality of these applications has improved considerably, and the types of projects for which funding is being sought are more diverse. As an organization, CCCC is committed to supporting the diversity of applicants, projects, and research strategies included in these awards. The CCCC Emergent Researcher Awards reflect this commitment and are intended to invest in our organization's members by rewarding and supporting early-career researchers, especially faculty/instructors who have not had the opportunity to engage in funded research faculty/instructors who do not have support for research within their institutions Only researchers who have not received previous funding from CCCC for research are eligible to apply for these awards. In addition to research funding, the Emergent Researcher Awards provide mentoring support. All selected recipients (or recipient teams) will be matched with research mentors on their projects. These established scholars will have a successful record of mentoring and publication experience. Mentoring pairs will determine procedures through which they collaborate. However, the expectation is that the mentor will be available to consult with the researcher(s) at each stage of selected projects on issues ranging from design to methodology, writing to circulation.

Through the program, emerging scholars will be awarded travel awards of $1,000, invitation to a reception, and an opportunity to work with mentors who are CCCC members. The opportunity is open to black, Latinx, Asian, American Indian/Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander scholars, regardless of citizenship status. Scholars for the Dream Travel Awards will be first-time presenters at CCCC.

The American Journalism Historians Association seeks applications for its annual Research Grant Awards. The deadline is May 15, 2013. Up to four winners will be announced at the Sept. 26-28 convention in New Orleans. The Research Grant Award is designed to provide research assistance and to recognize and reward the winners. Up to four grants per year for up to $1,250 each will be awarded upon review and recommendation of the Research Grant Committee. All current AJHA full members with a minimum of three years' membership at the time of application are eligible. The research project must be related to mass media history.

The competition theme is "Blue." Shades, spaces, feelings of blue. Show us what blue means to you. Article submissions are accepted from all writers 18 years and older, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, short stories and other written explorations (up to 900 words). There is one Gold Winner cash award, one writer profile award and at least three publication awards. All work is evaluated based on the vision as relates to the submission theme. Submissions including diverse interpretations of the theme will be considered. The program provides funding for copyright acquisition (if needed), translation, and printing of fiction and non-fiction titles for various ages. We expect to award several grants for translation, with an average award amount of $10,000 to $15,000. The minimum print run is typically 3,000 copies. The published books will be distributed by the U.S. Embassy and partners to educational institutions and public libraries in the Kyrgyz Republic. Priority topics include: women's empowerment, youth engagement, civic participation, media, and environmental issues, as well as classic and contemporary literature for early readers and young adults

With the goal of promoting undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in Arts and Humanities education, the Arts and Humanities Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research will offer financial support for faculty to present on the process and/or results of undergraduate research at regional or national Arts and/or Humanities conferences. The awards will be from $600 and up to three will be awarded for presentations that have been accepted by Feb. 10, 2015, to be presented (or which have been presented) in the fall of 2014 or spring of 2015 (by June 1, 2015).

The Sofja Kovalevskaja Award allows you to spend five years building up a working group and working on a high-profile, innovative research project of your own choice at a research institution of your own choice in Germany.

The annual award honors an individual, group of individuals, or organization that has fought to protect and preserve one or more of the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment with a $10,000 cash prize and an engraved crystal. The honoree(s) also will receive lodging (two-night hotel stay) and transportation (airfare) to the society's national convention.

The Public Affairs Section of the Embassy of the United States of America in Islamabad, Pakistan, is pleased to announce an open competition for assistance awards through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). PAS Islamabad invites all eligible organizations (see Section C for Eligibility Requirements) to submit proposals for a Grant or Cooperative Agreement to support activities focused on providing media training and professional development to professionals in the media field through one of the activity areas specified in this NOFO. PAS Islamabad invites proposals for projects that focus on one of the priority areas specified below. Applicants should pay close attention to the Public Affairs Section's goals, priority program areas, target audiences, and geographic locations when developing their proposals. Goals: The goals of this funding opportunity are to: 1. Strengthen People-to-People ties between the United States and Pakistan to increase professional and personal interaction between American media experts and local trainers with Pakistani journalists. 2. Expand Media Engagement by providing training to journalists in new or traditional forms of media that also support professional standards in journalism; increasing participants' knowledge and skills in producing and reporting quality news stories, exposing them to high professional standards, and empowering them to communicate news more effectively to the Pakistani public. Priority Program Areas: This NOFO aims to support the Department of State's initiatives to promote and strengthen the field of journalism and the accuracy of reporting in Pakistan in the areas of: 1. Through its fellowship programs, the Starr Center supports innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to the American past - especially by fostering the art of written history. Visiting fellows find a place where they can retreat from daily responsibilities and focus on their writing projects - but also one where they are stimulated by interactions with students, faculty, and distinguished visitors. The Center's Patrick Henry Writing Fellowship supports outstanding writing on American history and culture by both scholars and nonacademic authors; it offers a $45,000 stipend for the academic year, plus living arrangements and other benefits. The Hodson Trust-John Carter Brown Fellowship is open to applicants from a wide range of disciplines who are pursuing projects on the literature, history, culture, or art of the Americas before 1830. The award supports two months of research and two months of writing. The stipend is $5,000 per month for a total of $20,000, plus housing and university privileges. Click here for more information. This program supports digitally based research projects in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences. It is hoped that projects of successful applicants will help advance digital humanistic scholarship by broadening understanding of its nature and exemplifying the robust infrastructure necessary for creating such works. ACLS Digital Innovation Fellowships are intended to support an academic year dedicated to work on a major scholarly project that takes a digital form. Projects may: Address a consequential scholarly question through new research methods, new ways of representing the knowledge produced by research, or both; Create new digital research resources; Increase the scholarly utility of existing digital resources by developing new means of aggregating, navigating, searching, or analyzing those resources; Propose to analyze and reflect upon the new forms of knowledge creation and representation made possible by the digital transformation of scholarship. ACLS will award up to six Digital Innovation Fellowships in this competition year. Each fellowship carries a stipend of up to $60,000 towards an academic year's leave and provides for project costs of up to $25,000. ACLS does not support creative works (e.g., novels or films), textbooks, straightforward translations, or purely pedagogical projects.

The Vilcek Foundation will award three prizes of $50,000 each to young fashion professionals who demonstrate outstanding early achievement. Academic scholars (including graduate students), independent scholars and professional and non-professional writers are encouraged to apply. Awards would provide a maximum of $1,000 and can be used to offset travel expenses and other research related activities excluding large equipment purchases. The applicant should state clearly the research topic and chronological period to be covered in the study. In addition, the applicant should state whether the research project is for a degree program or a manuscript being prepared for publication. The grant is designed to promote interest in the prisoner of war experience and encourage scholarly research which leads to documentation of the prisoner of war experience in a variety of media including theses, publications and audiovisual productions. Especially encouraged are projects that cover subjects not well represented in the published record. This includes an administrative history of the park from the Civil War to the present, prisoners of war during early conflicts in American history, individual prisoner of war camps and the experiences of minorities as prisoners of war.Subject matter can also extend to relevant aspects of the prisoner of war experience, such as the families of POWs and the guards at prisoner of war camps.

Awards received beginning in September and all proposal submissions going forward will be required to use the new rates.

South Arts is accepting applications from organizations that invite writers of fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry from out of state to give readings and conduct educational workshops or similar events. Through its Literary Arts Touring initiative, South Arts will award grants of up to $2,500 for literary projects that contain both a public reading and an educational component such as a writing workshop. The project can include single or multiple writers involved in an event (writers series, festivals, or single engagements). The maximum grant request is 50 percent of the writers' fee(s).  Qualified projects must take place between July 1, 2015, and June 30, 2016.
