With this Dear Colleague Letter, NSF is providing advance notice of a change in the eligibility of prospective applicants to the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) to allow the community to plan accordingly. Effective as of the 2017 competition (Fall 2016 deadlines), NSF will limit graduate students to only one application to the GRFP, submitted either in the first year or in the second year of graduate school. No change is made to the eligibility of undergraduates, of bachelor's degree holders without any graduate study, or of individuals who have had an interruption in graduate study of at least two consecutive years.

The Undergraduate Research (UR) grants program supports the research programs of established scientists and engineers at non-doctoral departments and provides financial support for students at those institutions to become involved in advanced research activities, in preparation for continued study in graduate school or employment.

This solicitation aims at introducing nanoscale science, engineering, and technology through a variety of interdisciplinary approaches into undergraduate engineering education. The focus of the FY 2013 competition is on nanoscale engineering education with relevance to devices and systems and/or on the societal, ethical, economic and/or environmental issues relevant to nanotechnology.

The Data Incubator is a Cornell-funded data science training organization. We run an advanced 8-week fellowship for PhDs looking to enter industry. A variety of innovative companies partner with The Data Incubator for their hiring and training needs, including LinkedIn, Genentech, Capital One, Pfizer, and many others. The program is free for admitted Fellows - see the FAQ below for more information. Fellows have the option to participate in the program either in person in New York City, Washington DC, the San Francisco Bay Area, or online.

The REM program supports the active involvement of research participants: high school students, STEM teachers, undergraduate STEM students, faculty, and veterans, in hands-on research in order to bring this rich research experience and contact with suitable STEM mentors into participants' lives. The main goals of the REM program are to provide research experiences and mentoring opportunities to STEM students and/or educators that may ultimately enhance their career and academic trajectories while enhancing EFRI-supported research. The REM program may also enable the building of long-term collaborative partnerships among EFRI-supported researchers, the NSF university research community, and local school districts.

The Illinois Database of Grants and Fellowships for Graduate Students

The ODNR Division of Geological Survey is pleased to announce it is accepting applications for the Ohio Geology License Plate Fund grant program. For a second year, the grant program supports graduate students conducting geologic research in the state. Beginning in winter of 2017, the Division of Geological Survey will award two $1,200 grants to earth science students at Ohio colleges and universities for graduate-level research on Ohio's geology. Awards will be given based on the quality of the student applications, the strength of their professors' letters of reference, and the relevancy of their research.

The Confluence Tech Showcase will connect vendors, manufacturers, developers, entrepreneurs, technologists, engineers, and students to our regional utilities to share solutions to the top challenges that have been identified by the utilities. This call for abstracts is addressed to vendors, manufacturers, developers, researchers, technologists, engineers, utilities, entrepreneurs, students and anyone with a solution to the challenges outlined by the Regional Utility Network.   Topics: (Sessions have been categorized into the following tracks: financial innovations, operational efficiencies, business drivers, resiliency opportunities, regulatory concerns, and water sector challenges for utilities within the water cycle (stormwater, drinking water, wastewater).  Abstracts should provide a technology, process, and/or case study of solutions related to these topics, and clearly indicate their value proposition and unique aspects in addressing the problem.  )

EPA-ORD seeks applications from eligible entities to enter into a cooperative agreement with EPA that will provide training opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students on-site at ORD's Ground Water and Ecosystems Research Division (GWERD) research facilities located in Ada, Oklahoma.  It is envisioned that the training program will increase both the effectiveness and number of future environmental scientists. The training received under the mentorship of EPA scientists will complement the trainees' academic coursework. The recipient will be responsible for ensuring that the training projects are supportive of the trainees' academic training.  Some appropriate fields of study for trainees include, but are not limited to, environmental science, water policy, chemistry, engineering, computer science, ecology, and physical and biological sciences.

The Fellowship program is designed to provide support to active Phi Kappa Phi members as they prepare to enter their first year of graduate or professional studies in the upcoming 2017 academic year.

Student research award The J. Larry Landers Student Research Award is a Gopher Tortoise Council competitive grant program for undergraduate and graduate college students. Proposals can address research concerning gopher tortoise biology or any other relevant aspect of upland habitat conservation and management.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) - as part of its People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) Award Program - is seeking applications proposing to research, develop, and design solutions to real world challenges involving sustainability. The P3 competition highlights the use of scientific principles in creating innovative projects focused on sustainability. The P3 Award Program was developed to foster progress toward sustainability by achieving the mutual goals of improved quality of life, economic prosperity and protection of the planet-people, prosperity, and the planet-the three pillars of sustainability. The EPA offers the P3 competition in order to respond to the technical needs of the world while moving towards the goal of sustainability. The Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC) Undergraduate Student Training in Academic Research (U-STAR) program is designed to provide structured training programs to prepare high-achieving, underrepresented students for doctoral programs in biomedical research fields. Programmatic activities should include authentic research experiences, academic enhancements, skills development, and mentoring. Institutions eligible for MARC U-STAR grants are those with significant enrollments of honors students from groups underrepresented in the biomedical sciences. The long-term goal of the program is to  enhance the pool of underrepresented students earning baccalaureate and Ph.D degrees in biomedical research fields and ultimately to contribute to the diversification of the nation's scientific workforce.

The Social Security Administration's (SSA's) Analyzing Relationships between Disability, Rehabilitation and Work (ARDRAW) Small Grant Program is a one-year $10,000 stipend program awarded to graduate-level students to conduct supervised independent research designed to foster new analysis of work, rehabilitation, and disability issues, which may develop innovative and fresh perspectives on disability. Potential research areas of inquiry include, but are not limited to: Working conditions of SSA beneficiaries Work accommodations and needs of SSA beneficiaries Non-competitive employment for SSA beneficiaries Vocational and other types of service use by SSA beneficiaries Non-SSA assistance provided to SSA beneficiaries

The Education Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) provides national and professional leadership in developing undergraduate research in the areas of Teaching and Learning, the Learning Sciences, Teacher Education and related disciplines. One goal is to provide financial support for undergraduate students for conducting education research and disseminating their findings. To this end, the Education Division is pleased to announce its Faculty-Student Collaborative Research in Education Award. Two (2) awards of $250 each will be made available each academic year to students in education majors and education-related fields.  Dual and double majors are also eligible to apply. Undergraduates at any stage of their undergraduate programs are encouraged to apply.

The Psychology Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) is offering a limited number of travel grants, up to $250 each, for undergraduate students presenting original psychological research results at a regional or national, discipline-specific meeting. Award recipients are required to acknowledge CUR for support of their travel in their talk or poster, to complete a short evaluation in either written or video form about their meeting experience, and to submit a PDF file of their poster. Minority students are encouraged to apply.

A Community Thrives is a new approach to social impact programs that was developed through a collaboration across the entire USA TODAY NETWORK. While most initiatives designate funds or give support to great charities, we're going to instead fund and support great ideas. Supported by the American Heart Association Strategically Focused Research Networks, there is a two-year postdoctoral fellowship opportunity listed by institution for the funded research networks. Fellows with a strong interest in either prevention, hypertension, disparities, women's health, or heart failure-related to cardiovascular disease and/or stroke research, commitment to multi-disciplinary team science approach at the population, clinical and basic science levels and excellent communication skills. The center fellow will be highly involved in the projects being proposed by their institution, will be encouraged to collaborate with fellows across the network, and work closely with their Center Director and Training Director on their Center's individualized multidisciplinary training plan. The purpose of this competitive undergraduate scholarship grant program is to increase the multicultural diversity of the food and agricultural scientific and professional workforce, and advance the educational achievement of all Americans by providing competitive grants to colleges and universities.

The U.S. Diplomacy Center (USDC) announces a Notice of Funding Opportunity for up to $198,000 for an implementer (simulations coordination team) to work on the Diplomatic Simulations Program. In this unique educational program, students role play diplomatic representatives of different sides negotiating a solution to an international dispute. The focus will mainly be on international students. Students learn to use the tools of diplomacy to engage constructively with foreign governments and international groups on global issues. The project will require, but is not limited to, curriculum design and simulation writing, as well as filming and editing video clips that introduce the program and support the content of the simulations. The simulations coordination team will also develop online resources geared to both U.S. and international audiences, for teachers to use with students.
