The Security and Preparedness (SAP) Programsupports basic scientific research that advances knowledge and understanding of issues broadly related to global and national security. Research proposals are evaluated on the criteria of intellectual merit and broader impacts; the proposed projects are expected to be theoretically motivated, conceptually precise, methodologically rigorous, and empirically oriented. Substantive areas include (but are not limited to) international relations, global and national security, human security,political violence, state stability, conflict processes, regime transition, international and comparative political economy, and peace science. Moreover, the Program supports research experiences for undergraduate students and infrastructural activities, including methodological innovations. The Program does not fund applied research. UTSAM invites applications for up to nine-month Doctoral Residency Fellowship starting in a mutually decided time after securing the founding. We are interested in proposals that involve comparative perspectives and methods of understanding security (conceptual and practical), Islamphobia and rising far right in general, and terrorism in particular.  UTSAM is an interdisciplinary forum for innovative research on socio-economic, political, and cultural explanations and analysis of security in global perspective, with a focus on the Middle East and Europe. The main goal of the UTSAM is to encourage research on security in a comparative perspective.

The Disability Determination Process (DDP) Small Grant Program is a one-year $10,000 stipend program awarded to graduate-level students to conduct supervised independent research on improving the Disability Determination Process for the Social Security Administration's (SSA's) disability programs - Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).

This Annual Program Statement (APS), entitled Volunteers for International Security and Prosperity (VISP), is a mechanism through which USAID will maximize development impact and efficient resource use by mobilizing the creative capacity of volunteers globally. Volunteers and the principle of volunteerism maximize USAID's development programs through bringing in non-traditional partners and new solutions and ideas, increasing peer-to-peer learning, building community, advancing diplomacy, and leveraging resources. Under the APS, USAID intends to support a variety of creative approaches towards the design and implementation of activities addressing USAID Operating Units' (OU) development objectives. This APS offers USAID OUs (Mission, Bureau, or Independent Office) an easy-to-use mechanism to facilitate access to volunteers across any sector while upholding U.S. foreign policy objectives of promoting national security, advancing American values, and supporting global prosperity and self-reliance.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Young Faculty Award (YFA) program aims to identify and engage rising stars in junior faculty positions in academia and equivalent positions at non-profit research institutions and expose them to Department of Defense (DoD) and National Security challenges and needs. In particular, this YFA will provide high-impact funding to elite researchers early in their careers to develop innovative new research directions in the context of enabling transformative DoD capabilities. The long-term goal of the program is to develop the next generation of scientists and engineers in the research community who will focus a significant portion of their future careers on DoD and National Security issues. DARPA is particularly interested in identifying outstanding researchers who have previously not been performers on DARPA programs, but the program is open to all qualified applicants with innovative research ideas.

The Individual Advanced Research Opportunities Program (IARO) supports in-depth, primary source research in Eastern Europe and Eurasia. This research is broadly disseminated to targeted policymakers, think tanks and academic institutions in the United States and abroad. The IARO program plays a vital role in building national security, as well as supporting the emergence of a dedicated and knowledgeable cadre of U.S. researchers and specialists who can enrich the U.S. understanding of current, regional issues of importance to the United States.

New Voices Fellowships are designed to bring more expert voices from Africa and other parts of the developing world into the global development discussion. The program, which is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, offers experts from the developing world a year-long program of media support, training, research, and writing under the guidance of experienced mentors and trainers that is designed to help them reach a broader global audience. Candidates for the twelve to fourteen fellowships awarded each year must be experts in a field related to global development, ranging from global health and food security to governance, education, and social entrepreneurship. Fellows also must be from a developing country and ideally work and live in their country of origin or another developing country.

The Political Science Program at NSF will be holding its regular and dissertation competitions this spring. As usual, the deadline for both competitions is January 15th with results being announced between the middle of May and early June. When developing proposals for these two competitions, please keep in mind that the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act of 2013 (P.L. 113-6, enacted on March 26, 2013) stipulates that projects funded through the Political Science Program must either promote national security or the economic interests of the United States. The relationship of the proposed research to these goals should be addressed both in the broader impacts section of the project summary and within the project description.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Grants Programs Directorate is responsible for the implementation and administrations of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. The purpose of the AFG Program is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. The program guidance document provides potential applicants with the details of the requirements, processing, and evaluation of an application for financial assistance for eligible activities.

The Accountable Institutions and Behavior (AIB) Program supports basic scientific research that advances knowledge and understanding of issues broadly related to attitudes, behavior, and institutions connected to public policy and the provision of public services. Research proposals are expected to be theoretically motivated, conceptually precise, methodologically rigorous, and empirically oriented. Substantive areas include (but are not limited to) the study of individual and group decision-making, political institutions (appointed or elected), attitude and preference formation and expression, electoral processes and voting, public administration, and public policy. This work can focus on a single case or can be done in a comparative context, either over time or cross-sectionally. The Program does not fund applied research. The Program also supports research experiences for undergraduate students and infrastructural activities, including methodological innovations. In addition, we encourage you to examine the websites for the National Science Foundation's Law and Science (LS) and Security and Preparedness (SAP) programs.

The SVC challenge is to visually represent and explain electronic warfare (EW), which takes place within the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS). The EMS is all around us in everyday life, but most people do not even realize the extent to which they rely on it and on cyberspace - remotely unlocking the car, turning on the television, using wireless networks and smart phones, electronic sensors that give drivers better situational awareness, and so much more. Our military deals with the EMS every day, and spectrum control and superiority are at the heart of EW - a complex and challenging field, requiring truly innovative and leap-ahead technology solutions. EW is critical to global security, in peacetime and wartime. Recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have proven that control of the spectrum can save lives, just as it did in countering remote controlled improvised explosive devices. In fact, future conflicts will be decided by EW and control of the EMS, something we can't even see.

To be eligible, applicants must have no more than thirty-six months of postdoctoral research experience (in a research laboratory) at the time of application and not be more than five years from his/her PhD; be nominated by a qualified mentor at the degree-granting institution where the applicant will conduct his/her postdoctoral/fellowship training; have secured a postdoctoral position with funding (including support from the mentor's existing research grants) at a degree-granting institution in the United States or Canada; and be an underrepresented member of a minority group (i.e., American Indian or Alaska Native, black or African American, Hispanic, or Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander).

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy South Africa of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program focused on strengthening existing ties and fostering new collaboration between U.S. and African universities. The Public A Priority Region: Project activities must take place in South Africa and the United States, and be directed at South African audiences/participants. Program Objectives: The goal of the University Partnerships Initiative (UPI) is to strengthen existing ties and foster new collaboration between U.S. and South African universities. Focus areas include promoting faculty and student exchanges, facilitating joint research, building administrative capacity, and creating public-private partnerships. Program proposals should address how relationships between institutions will be sustained after U.S. government funded efforts are concluded. Specific Program Objectives: - Promote U.S.-South Africa faculty and student exchanges, particularly the development of dual degree programs that have South Africans complete their studies in their home country and address South Africa's shortage of qualified academic staff. - Facilitate joint research, especially in agriculture, food security, and STEM. - Provide training and transfer skills in all aspects of university administration through subject-matter exchange programs. - Explore public-private partnerships, with an emphasis on commercialization, technology transfer, and job creation.

The Social Security Administration's (SSA's) Analyzing Relationships between Disability, Rehabilitation and Work (ARDRAW) Small Grant Program is a one-year $10,000 stipend program awarded to graduate-level students to conduct supervised independent research designed to foster new analysis of work, rehabilitation, and disability issues, which may develop innovative and fresh perspectives on disability.
