To support investigative journalism on the topic of corruption, corruption proceeds, and illicit financial transactions (i.e. money laundering) of such proceeds, the U.S. Department of State has allocated $500,000 in FY 2017 International Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement (INCLE) funds to this grant opportunity. Foreign assistance will support work in at least two of four target countries in the region (Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, and Peru) to support investigative capacity building and awareness-raising between journalists and law enforcement, where possible. These countries may serve as a pilot for future programming.

A program of the Nation Institute, the mission of the Investigative Fund is to produce high-impact investigative reporting that holds the powerful accountable, bring underreported stories to light, cultivate diverse journalistic talent, and create a home for independent journalism that serves the public. As part of this mission, the fund is accepting applications for the Wayne Barrett Investigative Fund. Investigative journalist Wayne Barrett spent much of his forty-year reporting career at the Village Voice, where he became, in the words of the Washington Post, "dreaded if not loathed" by public officials for his relentless exposure of political figures such as Ed Koch, Rudy Giuliani, and Donald Trump. Within days of being laid off by the paper during a period of financial struggle, he became a fellow at the Nation Institute, home to several other Village Voice alums. To honor Barrett's legacy, the institute has launched the Wayne Barrett Investigative Fund to support ambitious reporting projects focused on politics and corruption in New York City and nationally. Projects that build on Barrett's previous reporting are particularly encouraged. The fund is designed to enable talented journalists working in print, digital, or broadcast to produce deeply reported investigative projects with strong editorial guidance and support. Awards for each investigative project will range between $5,000 and $15,000, with the aim of underwriting travel, document fees, and compensation for reporting time, as needed.

he $1,000 CORST Essay Prize recognizes the best essay on psychoanalytically informed research in the biobehavioral sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. The winning essay will be presented at the APsaA National Meeting and will be reviewed for publication by The Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association.

Indiana University's African Studies Program invites applications for a short-term residency to conduct research in IU's Libraries/African Studies Collections. Indiana University's African Studies Collection ranks among the top tier of such collections in the U.S. It comprises more than 150,000 volumes of monographs and over 700 serial subscriptions as well as materials in other formats (e.g. posters, slides, film/video, audio tapes, etc). The focus of the collection is on the humanities and social sciences, supporting a wide range of students and faculty in such departments as history, anthropology, fine arts, theatre & drama, literature, folklore, ethnomusicology, communication and culture, linguistics, religious studies, education, political science, business, economics, journalism, and applied health science. This residency is intended for faculty members at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or at other U.S. colleges / universities with limited Africa collections, to conduct research in Indiana University's libraries and special collections in support of curriculum development or publications. The successful applicant will receive an award that covers domestic travel, accommodations in Bloomington, and a modest per diem for up to two weeks of research. The award will cover expenses up to a maximum of $2,000 and must be used before August 01, 2014. The recipient is expected to reside in Bloomington during the period of her/his award.

The Borchard Foundation Center on Law & Aging underwrites an Academic Research Grant Program to further scholarship about new or improved public policies, laws and/or programs that will enhance the quality of life for the elderly. Each grant recipient is required to publish an article on the subject of their research in a top flight journal.

The Study of the U.S. Branch, Office of Academic Exchange Programs, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), invites proposal submissions for the design and implementation of five different Study of the U.S. Institutes for Scholars and Secondary Educators to take place over the course of five to six weeks at U.S. academic institutions beginning in June 2016, pending the availability of FY 2016 funds. These Institutes should provide multinational groups of experienced foreign university educators, scholars, teachers, and other professionals with a deeper understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and institutions. Four of these Institutes will be for groups of 18 foreign university level faculty, focusing on the themes of Journalism and Media, U.S. Culture and Society, U.S. Foreign Policy, and U.S. National Security Policymaking, each with a total duration of six weeks.

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan is pleased to announce an open competition for eligible organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to improve access to information for journalists and civil society in accordance with Afghanistan's Access to Information Law. Based on funding availability, this grant intends to develop and provide training for journalists and members of civil society on access to information procedures under Afghan law. The recipient will demonstrate a thorough understanding of the current legal framework surrounding access to information in Afghanistan, and create a strategic plan that will increase awareness of the law and how to use it. Participants will become more aware of the law, how it works, and how to make access to information requests. A successful proposal will include a detailed plan for recruiting a diverse group of journalists from a variety of outlets and employees from a cross-section of civil society organizations working on democracy and governance issues to take part in these trainings. Training activities should take place in Kabul and in no less than five provincial capitals.
