The goal of the FPC's International Media Reporting Programs is to engage directly with foreign media to advance U.S. foreign policy priorities by providing visiting foreign journalists with direct access to authoritative sources of information about U.S. foreign policy through informational and policy briefings, as well as local and national reporting tours. In turn, those foreign media members report on important facts and insights regarding the social, political, economic, historical, and cultural context within which U.S. foreign policy is developed via broadcast, print, and digital media.

MOVO will be a five-year regional messaging and communication effort that leverages both traditional and new media to counter violent extremism and promote democracy, human rights and governance. MOVO will aim to form lasting partnerships to amplify moderate voices in communities as well as national and regional networks and institutions. MOVO will use a strategic information campaigns to tackle difficult, long-standing issues critical to VE vulnerability as well as to respond directly to events and hot topics. MOVO will integrate with other USG CVE and messaging efforts, such as State and USAID-funded programs, Public Affairs Sections and Military Information Support Teams (MIST) in the region. With regard to mediums of information exchange, MOVO will strengthen and expand existing PDev II radio networks and programming, continuing to invest in the medium most easily accessible to rural communities at-risk. However, MOVO will also produce targeted video content in targeted countries that is easily sharable and of most interest to target demographics. Mobile platforms that leverage feature phones have proved wildly popular and are useful in engaging rural audiences. Social media offers exciting new opportunities to connect with target audiences. However, poor internet penetration in target areas and among target demographics may limit the applicability of the medium. MOVO will expand its emphasis on social media in a measured, iterative manner that builds on effective, cost-efficient approaches. To the extent possible, all content will be cross-promoted across radio, video, mobile and social media to increase dissemination and build audiences across demographics and platforms.

Under the RFP, the social media giant is offering awards to researchers interested in exploring the societal issues of misinformation and polarization related to social communication technologies. Priority research areas of interest include: Health Misinformation - Proposals to better understand the health misinformation ecosystem on social media, including how to categorize and detect such content, how it spreads, the motivations that drive creation/distribution, the downstream effects of exposure, and how to measure and conduct effective interventions. Quantifying Harms of Misinformation - Proposals that explore how to best measure the harms that result from misinformation. Information Processing of Sensational, Hateful, Divisive, or Provocative Problematic Content - Proposals that explore the social, psychological, and cognitive variables involved in the consumption of "gray area" content experiences - sensational, provocative, divisive, hateful, misleading, or biased information - received and produced on social media platforms. Affective Polarization - Proposals that explore measurement, processes, and effects of polarization, particularly affective polarization (whether political, religious, ethnic, or linguistic). In addition to advances in attitudinal and behavioral measurement, the company is particularly interested in causal models of polarization driven by informational, environmental, demographic, and institutional factors, especially when related to online communication or networks.

The AAAS Early Career Award for Public Engagement with Science, established in 2010, recognizes early-career scientists and engineers who demonstrate excellence in their contribution to public engagement with science activities. A monetary prize of $5,000, a commemorative plaque, complimentary registration to the AAAS Annual Meeting, and reimbursement for reasonable hotel and travel expenses to attend the AAAS Annual Meeting to receive the prize are given to the recipient. Nominee must be an early-career scientist or engineer in academia, government or industry actively conducting research in any scientific discipline (including social sciences and medicine).  "Early career" is defined as an individual who has been in his/her current field for less than seven years and pre-tenure or job equivalent. Post-doctoral students are eligible for this award. Nominee will have demonstrated excellence in his/her contribution to public engagement with science activities, with a focus on interactive dialogue between the individual and a non-scientific, public audience(s). Types of public engagement activities might include: informal science education, public outreach, public policy, and/or science communication activities, such as mass media, public dialogue, radio, TV and film, science café, science exhibit, science fair, and social and online media.

The Public Affairs Section at the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur will help select the Malaysian partner institution and vet participants in the content production training. The U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur will be closely involved in the grant administration. The Embassy is seeking an organization with experience in creating CVE-focused programs and content in Malaysia to produce documentaries, podcasts, and social media posts effective in countering violent extremism. A successful proposal will integrate the training of a diverse collection of young, local talent to produce their own content effective in supporting CVE efforts. Specific Objectives: 1. Production of at least three documentaries (video, radio and/or online) focused on contemporary domestic/regional issues related to extremism in Malaysia. 2. The project should provide for the training of a diverse collection of Malaysian content designers, representing several backgrounds, to produce effective CVE-focused content. 3. The proposal should include a plan to publicize the content throughout the country in a wide variety of distribution channels including: a. National/regional media b. Road Shows c. Radio d. Online

The National Endowment for Democracy is a private nonprofit foundation dedicated to the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions around the world. Each year, the endowment makes more than twelve hundred grants to support the projects of nongovernmental groups abroad that are working for democratic goals in over nineties countries. To advance this mission, NED is seeking proposals for projects that advance democratic goals and strengthen democratic institutions. Grants of up to $50,000 over twelve will be awarded in support of nonpartisan programs that seek to promote and defend human rights and the rule of law, support freedom of information and independent media, and promote accountability and transparency. To be eligible, applicants must be nongovernmental organizations, including civic organizations, associations, independent media, and other similar groups. Applications are encouraged from organizations working in diverse environments, including newly established democracies, semi-authoritarian countries, highly repressive societies, and countries undergoing democratic transition.

Mission Strengthen democracy by making independent voices heard. Description In his book The Media Monopoly Ben Bagdikian writes, "The object of reform is not to silence voices but to multiply them, not to foreclose ideas but to awaken them." Without a strong and diverse community of independent voices, we cannot build a global democracy much less protect our own. The goal of independent media is not to comfort or sell but to inspire and mobilize. It currently serves what Howard Zinn calls the "unreported resistance," the "permanent adversarial culture" - but its real ambition is to give voice to the world's silent majority.

The Kennan Institute seeks fellowship applicants from diverse, policy-oriented sectors such as media, business, local government, law, civil society, and academia to examine important political, social, economic, cultural, and historical issues in Russia, Ukraine, and the region. Among the aims of the new fellowships are to build bridges between traditional academia and the policy world, as well as to maintain and increase collaboration among researchers from Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S.

The Soros Justice Fellowships fund outstanding individuals to undertake projects that advance reform, spur debate, and catalyze change on a range of issues facing the U.S. criminal justice system. The fellowships are part of a larger effort within the Open Society Foundations to reduce the destructive impact of current criminal justice policies on the lives of individuals, families, and communities in the United States by challenging the overreliance on incarceration and extreme punishment, and ensuring a fair and accountable system of justice. The purpose of the "Civil Society: Mutual Accountability Project" is to strengthen the enabling environment for Nepali civil society and media, enhance the capacity of Nepali Civil Society Organizations (CSO) to collaboratively and constructively engage in policy advocacy, and support broad-based, cross-sectoral initiatives that monitor, report, and demand greater effectiveness and accountability in governance and public service delivery.

The U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) seeks single-country proposals for its Local Grants program. The Local Grants program serves as MEPI's most direct means of supporting organizations and individuals in the Middle East and North Africa. These grants are designed to: * Promote positive change, advocacy, and civic activism; * Strengthen civil society; * Support citizen's efforts to achieve economic, social, and political empowerment; * Expand opportunities for women and youth; * Strengthen the rule of law; * Develop independent media; and * Help communities work alongside governments in shaping their own futures. MEPI's regional offices, located in the Middle East and North Africa, manage the program. A MEPI Committee at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate within each country of origin reviews all Local Grant proposals, and forwards only the most competitive proposals to one of MEPI's two regional offices to negotiate the awards. MEPI accepts proposals to this program on a rolling basis, but each U.S. Embassy or Consulate has a unique selection process for submissions. Applicants should ask the respective U.S. Embassies or Consulates about their selection processes before preparing their submissions.

The Study of the U.S. Branch, Office of Academic Exchange Programs, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), invites proposal submissions for the design and implementation of five different Study of the U.S. Institutes for Scholars and Secondary Educators to take place over the course of five to six weeks at U.S. academic institutions beginning in June 2016, pending the availability of FY 2016 funds. These Institutes should provide multinational groups of experienced foreign university educators, scholars, teachers, and other professionals with a deeper understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and institutions. Four of these Institutes will be for groups of 18 foreign university level faculty, focusing on the themes of Journalism and Media, U.S. Culture and Society, U.S. Foreign Policy, and U.S. National Security Policymaking, each with a total duration of six weeks.

The goal of the Guinea Financial Accountability Support (GFAS) project is to enhance Guinea's fiscal transparency and government accountability for budget expenditure programs. Specific project objectives include the following: facilitate the publication of government budget through the application of print and social media in partnership with CSOs and private sector partners serving as third-party reporters of fiscal and budget data; advocate for reliable, complete, publically available and timely budget data. This Activity will help support the Mission's overall development goal, as set forth in the 2015-2019 Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS), which is "More Participatory Governance for a Healthier Guinea". The Office of the Public Affairs Advisor (PAA) at the U.S. Department of State's U.S. Mission to NATO (USNATO) invites not-for-profit, non-governmental organizations and think-tanks that focus on international affairs, defense and security issues, and U.S. and European relations to submit project proposals which encourage public discussions and creative public engagements in Europe on the major theme of "Turning NATO's Words into Action After the Brussels Meeting. USNATO seeks proposals that illustrate how to adapt NATO's strategic focus on deterrence and defense, and projecting stability with specific emphasis on burden sharing, counterterrorism, cyber security, and other outcomes from the Brussels May Meeting. To successfully communicate these policies, the alliance and its stakeholders will need to explain and debate these issues with policymakers, media, and their public in the coming period. USNATO is seeking proposals that will outline how the alliance can transform intent into actions and programs that NATO and its member states can implement. Specifically, we are referring to initiatives that relate to the strategic direction coming from the Brussels meeting; as well as how member states can honor their defense investment pledges, ways the alliance can support counterterrorism efforts, and novel methods to support cyber defense commitments including ways to blunt disinformation. We look forward to reviewing proposals from partner institutions that discuss some or all of these important NATO-related topics.

This program supports NGO efforts to enable greater citizen participation in fighting corruption, transparency in government, preventing brain drain, enhancing human rights (including gender equality and the rights of persons with disabilities), building a tolerant and multi-ethnic society, supporting independent media, and countering violent extremism.

How we measure progress reveals our values and shapes our future. So what does America's portrait of progress tell us about our collective values and goals? The traditional portrait presented by most of our media and political leaders includes the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and stock market. But do such measures really reflect our most cherished values and aspirations

Named in honor of NED's principal founders, former president Ronald Reagan and the late congressman Dante Fascell, the Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program is funded by the U.S. Congress to enable democratic practitioners, scholars, and journalists from around the world to deepen their understanding of democracy and enhance their ability to promote democratic change. Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows maintain full-time residence at the International Forum for Democratic Studies, NED's research arm located in Washington, D.C. Dedicated to international exchange, the program offers a collegial environment for fellows to reflect on their experiences and consider lessons learned; conduct research and writing; develop contacts and exchange ideas with counterparts in Washington, D.C.; and build ties that contribute to the development of a global network of democracy advocates. The Forum hosts 16 to 20 Reagan-Fascell Fellows per year, divided into two five-month sessions: Fall Session: October 1 - February 28 Spring Session: March 1 - July 31 The program offers two tracks, a practitioner track and a scholarly track.

This program supports digitally based research projects in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences. It is hoped that projects of successful applicants will help advance digital humanistic scholarship by broadening understanding of its nature and exemplifying the robust infrastructure necessary for creating such works. ACLS Digital Innovation Fellowships are intended to support an academic year dedicated to work on a major scholarly project that takes a digital form. Projects may: Address a consequential scholarly question through new research methods, new ways of representing the knowledge produced by research, or both; Create new digital research resources; Increase the scholarly utility of existing digital resources by developing new means of aggregating, navigating, searching, or analyzing those resources; Propose to analyze and reflect upon the new forms of knowledge creation and representation made possible by the digital transformation of scholarship. ACLS will award up to six Digital Innovation Fellowships in this competition year. Each fellowship carries a stipend of up to $60,000 towards an academic year's leave and provides for project costs of up to $25,000. ACLS does not support creative works (e.g., novels or films), textbooks, straightforward translations, or purely pedagogical projects.

The Board of Regents is seeking high quality, focused cooperative education and internship program proposals from Ohio institutions of higher education and their partners. This program has been funded  through one-time casino licensing fees; it is expected that the funds will be awarded to build systems to sustain co-ops and internships beyond the direct investment from the State and to ensure these workbased learning opportunities are relevant to the needs of students and businesses. Funds will be awarded to build the capability and capacity of programs to engage more students, more businesses,  and more faculty members in co-op and internship programs. The programs should address the talent needs of JobsOhio key industries.
