The Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL, or the Department), announces the availability of approximately $5,000,000 total costs (subject to the availability of Federal funds) for one cooperative agreement to fund a technical assistance project in an identified country to economically empower women and girls. The objective of the project is to reduce the risk of child labor, forced labor, and other violations of labor rights for vulnerable women and girls within an identified supply chain. The project will aim to achieve the following outcomes: (1) improved economic participation by women and girls vulnerable to child labor, forced labor, and/or other violations of labor rights within a supply chain; and (2) improved business practices by private sector actors to protect against child labor, forced labor, and other violations of labor rights for vulnerable women and girls working within a supply chain.
Applicants for the funds may be students or faculty. The project, program, or entrepreneurial idea must be created by, led by or benefit women.
Grants are awarded in values of $2500 to $20,000. While we prefer the base grant to be $5,000, we are considering a limited number of $2500 which will be required to show high impact. These applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The grants must be submitted online via the link below and must include a 2-minute video. Applicants will be narrowed to a pool of 10-15 finalists by our M.I.A.M.I. WOMEN Grants Committee. This committee will review applications; contact applicants if additional information is required, and present the finalists to the M.I.A.M.I. WOMEN Steering Committee and Development Staff.
Grant deadline for this year is Feb. 9, 2018.
These finalists will perform in a fast-pitch style Hawk Tank event on April 11, 2018. Finalists will be offered fast-pitch training courtesy of the Farmers School of Business - school of Entrepreneurship, and will receive coaching and support. They will then pitch their idea in 5 minutes or less on April 11, 2018 at the event. Giving Circle members are the voters who will determine winners. Absentee voters will be given the option to vote online.
Winners will be announced that night or the next day at the Symposium, to be determined.
The Miami Initiative for Advancing, Mentoring and Investing in Women (M.I.A.M.I. WOMEN) awarded nearly $104,000 in Giving Circle grants to students and faculty during the annual Leadership Symposium on April 12, 2018. Finalists pitched their projects the previous evening at the inaugural Hawk Tank event. This grant fund is open again for the 2018-2019 cycle.

The Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) is an educational opportunity for potential women entrepreneurs that uses a facilitated Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) called DreamBuilder as the core training curriculum. AWE participants will engage in facilitated lessons on business management and network with like-minded entrepreneurs and mentors from their regions and the United States. Led by an in-person course facilitator, participants will learn how to create business plans, hire staff, and research the market for their product or service. Participants will gather in person to view each DreamBuilder session (ten in total) and/or to discuss the topic after each participant views the session online. Facilitators selected in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate will lead the in-person discussions and serve as mentors for the participants. The implementing partner will also be expected to organize a pre-launch training program for facilitators throughout South Africa, to occur in Johannesburg.

NIO-PAS seeks proposals for a project entitled "Supporting Her Empowerment via Digital Tools." Based on funding availability, this project will build capacity of women artisans by harnessing their entrepreneurial and innovative spirits and empowering them with digital tools to grow further. Under this program, the grantee will organize and implement three 2-day workshops on "Digital Strategies for Business" in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh; Jaipur, Rajasthan; and Ludhiana, Punjab for a minimum of ten and a maximum of 15 CSO/NGO representatives in each program city.
The workshops should include hands-on training that will teach participants in each city how to use commercially-available technology to sell art and/or related products online. The workshops should also include a "train-the-trainer" teaching methodology to allow participants to share their new skills with women artisans from far-flung and rural areas, and within their communities. Each participant must produce an initial idea to execute by the end of the workshops.

The project will empower citizens of the Guatemalan Western Highlands to identify and address their own development needs. Through a rigorous community-based development (CBD) approach, the project will strengthen the voices of underrepresented groups (including women, poor, indigenous, youth, and others) and actively engage community members as participants and leaders in the full cycle of design, management, and evaluation of development activities. The project will work to dismantle the social, cultural, and historical divides that have marginalized indigenous Mayans in the Western Highlands.

Since its inception in 1953, the SBA has served to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small businesses. While the SBA is best known for its financial support of small businesses through its many lending programs, the agency also plays a critical role in providing funding to organizations that deliver technical assistance in the form of counseling and training to small business concerns and nascent entrepreneurs in order to promote growth, expansion, innovation, increased productivity and management improvement. The mission of the WBC Program is to act as the catalyst for providing in-depth, substantive, outcome-oriented business services to women entrepreneurs, both nascent and established businesses, a representative number of which are socially and economically disadvantaged.
