Developers and innovators have many great ideas and products that could improve the U.S. health care system and make life better for patients and care providers. However, effecting actual change is extremely difficult due to the high barriers to entry in the health IT space. Once an innovative new product has been developed, it needs to be tested in real-life care settings. But providers can be hesitant to host this testing for a myriad of reasons-they may have had bad experiences in the past, be anxious about deploying new tools that may disrupt their workflows, or be wary of encountering more problems than the solution solves. Without this testing, it cannot be determined how well the product actually works, making it difficult for the developers to identify the changes that need to be made to the product to make it more effective. Furthermore, without evidence of the uses a product can provide it is that much harder to acquire the venture funding that can fuel further advancement and lead to successful entry in the marketplace. The Market R&D Pilot Challenge is intended to help bridge this gap by bringing together health care organizations ("Hosts") and innovative companies ("Innovators") through pilot funding awards and facilitated matchmaking. The Challenge seeks to award pilot proposals in three different domains: Clinical environments (e.g., hospitals, ambulatory care, surgical centers), public health and community environments (community-based personnel such as public health departments, community health workers, mobile medical trucks, school- and jail-based clinics), and consumer health (e.g., self-insured employers, pharmacies, laboratories). Hosts and Innovators will submit joint pilot proposals, with the winners, as determined by an expert panel, proceeding to implement their pilots.

Established in 2002 as the Special Hope Foundation, the WITH (Working for Inclusive and Transformative Healthcare) Foundation provides financial support to organizations that promote delivery of comprehensive health care for adults with developmental disabilities. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for its 2019 grants program. Through the program, grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded to programs that improve the delivery of health care to adults with developmental disabilities and that also include at least one of the following: improve health practitioner competency through education and/or training programs; address the current inadequate reimbursement system; advance formal care coordination; increase public awareness regarding the inadequacies of developmentally disabled care in order to advance systemic change; promote national efforts in digital health that encourage designers and developers to consider the perspectives/experiences of the IDD community within the design process; social policy research; and identify barriers to high-quality healthcare access.

The American College of Cardiology's Accreditation Services help hospitals improve care for patients with acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation. In 2016, ACC merged with the Society of Cardiovascular Patient care (SCPC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the care and outcomes of patients worldwide facing the same complications. To preserve the legacy of SCPC, an endowment was created to support future cardiovascular quality or performance improvement initiatives, particularly those that underscore the importance of accreditation. To advance that mission, ACCF is accepting proposals that support cardiovascular quality improvement of cardiovascular care and patient outcomes. Awards of up to $100,000 will support projects that contribute to the evidence base for accreditation; develop or evaluate cardiovascular quality initiatives that strengthen the accreditation process; provide opportunities for education that support quality or performance improvement projects; improve EMS systems of care in collaboration with community hospitals providing accreditation services; or provide public health education to improve community measures/outcomes related to early recognition of heart attack symptoms and appropriate action steps.

This notice solicits applications for a new three-year Special Projects of National Significance (SPNS) initiative entitled Capacity Building in the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program to Support Innovative Program Model Replication. This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) responds to recent changes in the HIV epidemic and the need to find effective solutions that improve health outcomes along the HIV care continuum for people living with HIV (PLWH). During recent years, a number of innovative interventions have demonstrated effective responses that contribute to ending the HIV epidemic. Ryan White providers who have developed these evidence-informed interventions have produced replication manuals and other tools to assist organizations and jurisdictions interested in adapting and/or replicating such interventions. This NOFO seeks to build the capacity of Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) recipients and subrecipients to replicate effective models of care., with a particular focus on RWHAP jurisdictions identified as disproportionately affected by HIV By building capacity and encouraging the implementation or replication of effective models of care, the RWHAP intends that these jurisdictions will bring recent innovations to scale, thus improving systems of care, reducing health disparities, improving outcomes along the HIV care continuum, and ultimately contributing towards meeting the goals and objectives of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy.

While the history of cystic fibrosis care has been one of continuous improvement and greatly improved survival, CF remains a life-limiting disease with a significant impact on quality of life. The research in understanding the pathophysiology of CF and the advent of effective therapies does not obviate the need for advances in knowledge and practice of CF-specific palliative care. The available literature indicates that the palliative needs of individuals with CF are often not suitably or realistically addressed. Whereas descriptive work exists documenting the often unmet palliative needs of individuals living with CF, the evidence base for palliative care in CF lacks experimental studies with respect to the efficacy and effectiveness of palliative care interventions.

This notice announces the opportunity to apply for funding under the U5D MCH Pediatric Research Network (PedsRN) Program. The purpose of this program is to establish and maintain an interdisciplinary, national, multi-site research platform for scientific collaboration and infrastructure building. The Research Network will provide national leadership for applied and translational practice-based pediatric research and interventions to advance the evidence base for pediatric practice. PedsRN will accomplish this by supporting: collaborative practice-based research aimed at enhancing primary care practice, the development of evidence-based guidelines based on network research findings, and dissemination of findings in order to accelerate the translation of research into practice. The Research Network will identify effective practices to promote children's health in primary care settings. This will be accomplished through the establishment and ongoing development of a national network of primary care and child health professionals. These health care professionals will collaborate in the development and implementation of research designed to increase knowledge of pediatric care.

To that end, grants of up to $400,000 over up to two years will be awarded in support of promising approaches designed to help create a higher value healthcare system. The proposed research should be focused on developing actionable solutions to one or more of the symptoms of low value health care: high and rising healthcare costs; unwarranted variation in prices; unaffordable cost of care burden on patients and families; unacceptable variation in quality; and/or lack of transparency in both price and outcomes. Eligible approaches include models of care, coverage, or system change that seek to improve value by addressing one or more of the symptoms of low value and/or reduce routine treatments, tests, and screenings for patients for whom the potential harms (including financial harm) outweigh potential benefits; provide tools to help consumers make decisions about their healthcare based on value, including the cost of care to patients (in addition to other patient-centered factors); promote conversations between patients and their clinicians and care teams about preferences and trade-offs related to alternative treatment options and /or out of pocket cost burden to patients and families; and/or test interventions geared to reducing racial and ethnic disparities through the provision of higher value healthcare.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Bangladesh, Office of Population, Health, Nutrition, and Education is pleased to announce an Annual Program Statement for Strengthening Public Sector Maternal and Newborn Care. Through this APS, USAID is soliciting concept notes that propose innovative approaches, such as eHealth and mHealth, to assist the Government of Bangladesh's (GOB) public health system with its unfinished agenda for Ending Preventable Child and Maternal Deaths (EPCMD). Emphasis will be on newborn Care by scaling up proven approaches in the public sector. Through the PA-16-421 (R18) grant program, AHRQ addressed "patient safety and medication research by focusing on the safe usage of medications". This perspective centers on how medications move through the health care system and how this systemic process can be improved so that patients are not harmed, while health care delivery is improved. In addition, this program encouraged "the involvement of all members of the health care team, especially patients and families; nurses, pharmacists, technicians (pharmacy and medication administration technicians), health care administrators, risk managers, and physicians across all settings of care (including in the home)". Through this mechanism, AHRQ funded "investigative research demonstration projects that examine the effective implementation of processes, policies, and behaviors that support safe use of medication as well as its sustainment and dissemination."

Through this solicitation, we seek innovative proposals that apply the principles and frameworks of behavioral economics to persistent and perplexing health and health care problems. We hope to discover new interventions and insight that have potential to dramatically improve the way health care is delivered and health is promoted and preserved. We are particularly interested in supporting experiments that test innovative solutions to the challenge of reducing the use of low-value services in health care. This problem is particularly important given the rising costs and unaffordability of health care in the United States, but has been difficult to impact in part due to perverse incentives in a fee-for-service environment.

The AHCJ Reporting Fellowships on Health Care Performance are intended to support U.S.-based applicants who have interesting projects in mind for their news outlets that hold the promise of informing and educating the public. Applicants should have a working knowledge of the topic and a good idea of what it will take to complete the project. The project could take several forms. The fellow could choose to evaluate a local health system or a specific local or regional program or an aspect of the national system. An approach might be to compare two health Care systems addressing a common problem - access to Care for poor and uninsured patients, for example - to see why one community is performing better and why. Fellows pursuing projects such as these would want to consider public data and relevant academic studies in addition to interviews with health Care and civic leaders, patients and others.

India is home to the third largest number of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH) in the world. There are an estimated 2.09 million people living with HIV. The Government of India (GoI) has undertaken a robust scale up of its antiretroviral treatment (ART) program, starting from eight ART centers in 2004 to over 420 centers now in 2014. Currently, over 750,000 PLWH are on ART out of 1.1 million eligible for treatment. Despite scale up success, several challenges remain for the ART program to achieve the expansion it envisages over the next five years. These include human capacity issues, loss of patients from detection to enrollment in HIV care, and late HIV detection and retention. At every stage, over 200,000 patients are lost from testing to enrollment in care, to retention in care and then to treatment. Although progress has been made in the implementation of the HIV-TB program, there are several gaps that need to be addressed. The linkages between HIV/AIDS and the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program (RNTCP) are suboptimal, particularly in northern states due to limited capacity and infrastructure. Only 61% (2014) of TB patients were screened for HIV and knew their HIV status in the last one year. Of those identified as HIV positive, 85% were linked to ART. However, the concern is that the referral from HIV testing and care facilities to RNTCP is quite low.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to support mechanistic clinical studies aimed at understanding the impact of arts-based approaches in palliative care for symptom management. This FOA is intended to support mechanistic clinical studies to provide an evidence base for the use of the arts in palliative care for symptom management. The objective is to understand the biological, physiological, neurological, psychological, and/or sociological mechanisms by which the arts exert their effects on symptom management during and throughout the palliative care continuum. The goal is for the research supported under this FOA to develop an evidence-base that could be used as a basis for the uptake of arts-based therapies in palliative care settings, among individuals across the lifespan, with a wide variety of serious chronic conditions and their accompanying symptoms. This FOA is not intended to determine efficacy or the comparative effectiveness of interventions, or to assess interventions designed to treat the underlying cause of a particular disease state.

The foundation raises funds to support advancement of the AABC birth center model as the standard to improve maternity and women's health care. Based on a wellness model of pregnancy and birth, the birth center is a homelike facility operating within a healthcare system. Birth centers are guided by the principles of prevention of complication, sensitivity to the needs of the individual family, safety for both mother and baby, appropriate use of medical intervention, and cost-effective care. Birth centers provide family-centered care for healthy women before, during, and after normal pregnancy, labor, and birth. To help advance this mission, the foundation will award grants of up to $5,000 in support of research on issues related to the birth center model of care. The program is open to individuals or organizations, and nonprofit status or fiscal sponsorship is not required. However, applicants must be able to demonstrate capacity and a plan to complete the research in accordance with the project's timeline.
