Through its Science of Hope and Optimism Funding Initiative program, the association will award two-year grants of up to $250,000 for research projects that use a variety of methods to explore the nature of hope and optimism. Priority will be given to projects in cognitive, developmental, personality, health, and social psychology, as well as sociology. Interdisciplinary teams that include members from cognate areas - e.g., cognitive science, anthropology, nursing, and biology - are encouraged.

The purpose of the AED Student Research Grant Program is to support innovative and cutting-edge research conducted by student members of the AED. In 2015, the AED will award up to two grants of $1,000 each to support any aspect of a student research project, including (but not limited to) participant payments, support staff salaries, and costs related to study assessments and/or database management. However, funds may not be used for travel or salary/stipend support for the awardee.

Connect 4 Mental Health (C4MH) will issue four awards to U.S.-based community programs exhibiting innovative work in the four C4MH  pillars - early intervention, creative use of technology, continuity of care, and service integration (one winner in each pillar). Winners will exemplify the mission of C4MH, implementing approaches that support individuals living with serious mental illness and their families, and that also may positively impact the communities in which they live. Each of the 2014 Community Innovation Award winners will receive a $10,000 award and access to a one-on-one mentorship program featuring exemplary community-based programs with expertise in the four C4MH pillars. Winners will also be featured on the C4MH website and highlighted in future media announcements

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages the submission of investigator-initiated research grant applications to support the secondary analysis of existing data sets with the goal of enhancing our understanding of patterns of alcohol consumption and the epidemiology of alcohol-related problems. Research grants for the Secondary Analysis of Existing Alcohol Epidemiology Data Sets are intended to provide support for studies that utilize currently available data sets to increase our understanding of the incidence, prevalence and etiology of alcohol related problems and disorders in the population, as well as the risk and protective factors associated with them. Research that employs analytic techniques which demonstrate or promote methodological advances in alcohol-related epidemiologic research is also of interest.

A one-year, $10,000 grant will be awarded to a research team to investigate the utility of the guide, which was developed by the AED Medical Care Standards Taskforce, in increasing healthcare professionals' knowledge of eating disorders, as well as the degree to which the guide improves healthcare providers' ability to detect eating disorder symptoms in patients and make appropriate referrals to specialists. In addition, the research team will be expected to determine which media format is most appropriate for dissemination of the brochure (e.g., paper print, electronic copy, downloadable app, etc.).

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellows program provides the nation's most comprehensive fellowship experience at the nexus of health science, policy and politics in Washington, D.C. It is an outstanding opportunity for exceptional midcareer health professionals and behavioral and social scientists with an interest in health and health care policy promoting the health of the nation. This FOA is intended to encourage a broader scope of topics to be addressed with systems science methodologies, beyond those encouraged by existing open FOAs. Research projects applicable to this FOA are those that are either applied or basic in nature (including methodological development), have a human behavioral and/or social science focus, and feature systems science methodologies

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Uganda is seeking applications to fund one or more organizations through a five-year Cooperative Agreement to improve health, nutrition, education, and psychosocial wellbeing, and reduce abuse, exploitation and neglect among children and youth orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV (OVC) and other adversities in Uganda, and particularly in the Eastern and Northern Regions; as described in Section I of this RFA.

The Stephan D. Weiss, PhD, Mental Health Fund for Higher Education was established in December 2010 to support efforts to promote and improve the quality of mental health care for college students. The fund seeks to encourage the development of creative initiatives that will enhance mental health service delivery to students. Support from the fund can be directed to college health professionals or to students who plan to work in this field. This year, the fund will support the Weiss Writing Prize, which will be awarded to the lead author of a pivotal publication in college mental health. American College Health Association Institutional or Individual Members are eligible to apply. The winning article should demonstrate a successful student retention program for those with mental health issues. The program will provide creative, innovative solutions that could be implemented on other campuses. Preference will be given to articles published in the Journal of American College Health.

The Group Foundation for Advancing Mental Health is dedicated to changing lives by advancing the most effective and innovative approaches to group therapy education, training, research, and community outreach. To that end, the foundation is seeking research-focused applications to support group psychotherapy research that focuses on one of five clinical populations: children, the elderly, the chronically mentally ill, substance abusers, and/or significantly ill patients with marked functional impairment.

The annual award is designed to fund the development of creative initiatives that address prevention, early intervention, and/or treatment for mental and behavioral health disorders among college students. The goal of these initiatives is to reduce the risk of mental and behavioral illness and injury among college students and to enhance both individual and community health as a strategy to support student learning. One $3,500 grant will be awarded at the 2015 ACHA annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, in late May 2015.

SFPRF defines impact as the demonstrable contribution that family planning research makes to society. This includes impact on clinical practice, public policy, health services, programs, or culture. Research projects should have the potential to exert influence through policies or practices that enhance family planning, including contraception and abortion. When addressing impact, consider who could potentially benefit from your work, as well as ways to increase the chances that those potential benefits will reach the target audience.

NIJ's New Investigator/Early Career Program provides support for non-tenured assistant professors to conduct applied research on topics relevant to NIJ's Office of Research and Evaluation (ORE) including justice systems, violence and victimization, and/or crime control and prevention. Applications must propose research led by a Principal Investigator (PI) who: was awarded a terminal degree within the four (4) years prior to September 30, 2016; holds a non- tenured assistant professor position at an accredited institution of higher education in the United States; and has not previously served as PI on an NIJ research grant or fellowship. Please note that those who have held Graduate Research Fellowships with NIJ are not deemed PIs under that award and are eligible under this solicitation. NIJ encourages applications from diverse social and behavior sciences including but not limited to criminal justice, criminology, economics, law, psychology, public health, and sociology.

The National Research Action Plan (NRAP) responding to Executive Order 13625, Improving Access to Mental Health Services for Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families (August 31, 2012), lays out a framework to ensure that Government funding agencies work together to further our knowledge and diagnostic/therapeutic capabilities with regard to post- traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), TBI, suicide, and related injuries by following longitudinal cohorts of Service members and Veterans. The DoD and VA ORD meet this directive through continued collaboration on and coordination of research efforts in the areas of TBI and PTSD. Additionally, recommendations from the DoD Blast Injury Research Program Coordinating Office's November 2015 International State of the Science Meeting (Does Repeated Blast- Related Trauma Contribute to the Development of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)?) included pursuing longitudinal studies to evaluate links between blast-related TBI with CTE. While a number of longitudinal efforts are ongoing, the DoD and VA seek to pursue a mechanism to collaboratively streamline and continue longitudinal studies of mTBI in active duty and Veteran populations. The objective of this effort is to solicit a single Consortium of a large longitudinal study and supporting sub-studies to analyze a large TBI cohort to include Service members, Veterans, and relevant populations.

The National Academy of Education advances high-quality education research and its use in policy formation and practice. Founded in 1965, the academy comprises United States members and foreign associates who are elected on the basis of outstanding scholarship related to education. Since its establishment, NAEd has undertaken research studies that address pressing issues in education typically conducted by members and other scholars with relevant expertise.

Along with RFA-DA-19-037, which will support the generation of single cell datasets for one or more brain regions relevant to opioid use disorder and persistent HIV infection, a data coordination/analysis/outreach center (RFA-DA-19-038) will be established to make NIDA-funded single cell data and other molecular HIV/SUD data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). Harmonized single cell HIV/SUD data sets will enable immediate data mining by the scientific community for HIV and/or SUD biomarkers and potential pathways for therapeutic intervention. It will also enable future mining of these data sets as new and improved data science and information technology approaches are developed, maximizing NIDAs original investment in the data generating activities.

The purpose of this FOA is to fund research centers that will establish longitudinal cohorts in rare HLBS diseases to investigate unaddressed research questions using epidemiologic study designs and methods that are appropriate for conditions affecting fewer than 200,000 persons in the US. These observational cohort studies should be designed to provide an evidence base for future interventional studies, including clinical trials; for developing better diagnostics than those that are currently available; for answering early translational questions; or for broader implementation of guidelines for managing these diseases. This program will provide opportunities to advance rare disease research using genetics and deep phenotyping to characterize the disease and to identify disease sub-types; to use data science methods that integrate clinical and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) with laboratory, imaging, environmental and -omics data to understand the natural history of disease; to generate data that differentiate patients with the same morphological phenotype but different genetic mutations and severity of outcomes; to elucidate genotype-phenotype interactions and multisystem phenotyping to develop reliable and valid predictive tools to determine who will respond to which treatments and when to intervene; and to encourage innovative methods such as telemedicine to include participants with rare diseases located in remote locations.

The purpose of this FOA is to encourage mechanistic research to investigate the impact of sleep disturbances on pain. The mechanisms and processes underlying the contribution of sleep and sleep disturbances to pain perception and the development and maintenance of chronic pain may be very broad. This FOA encourages interdisciplinary research collaborations by experts from multiple fieldsneuroscientists, psychologists, endocrinologists, immunologists, geneticists, pharmacologists, chemists, physicists, behavioral scientists, clinicians, caregivers, and others in relevant fields of inquiry.

The purpose of this FOAs are to encourage mechanistic research to investigate the impact of sleep disturbances on chronic pain. With this grant, the center will fund and study innovative initiatives that: 1. Undertake research activities that entail implementing and evaluating community-based efforts to fight the opioid overdose epidemic; and 2. Support and promote the partnership of law enforcement and public health agencies, whose collaboration is critical to reducing overdose and other harms of opioid (mis)use.
