    This initiative seeks applications that propose to stimulate and expand research in the health of minority men. Specifically, this initiative is intended to: 1) enhance our understanding of the numerous factors (e.g., sociodemographic, community, societal, personal) influencing the health promoting behaviors of racial and ethnic minority males across the life cycle, and 2) encourage applications focusing on the development and testing of culturally and linguistically appropriate health-promoting interventions designed to reduce health disparities among racially and ethnically diverse males age 18 and older.

    Indiana University's African Studies Program invites applications for a short-term residency to conduct research in IU's Libraries/African Studies Collections. Indiana University's African Studies Collection ranks among the top tier of such collections in the U.S. It comprises more than 150,000 volumes of monographs and over 700 serial subscriptions as well as materials in other formats (e.g. posters, slides, film/video, audio tapes, etc). The focus of the collection is on the humanities and social sciences, supporting a wide range of students and faculty in such departments as history, anthropology, fine arts, theatre & drama, literature, folklore, ethnomusicology, communication and culture, linguistics, religious studies, education, political science, business, economics, journalism, and applied health science. This residency is intended for faculty members at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or at other U.S. colleges / universities with limited Africa collections, to conduct research in Indiana University's libraries and special collections in support of curriculum development or publications. The successful applicant will receive an award that covers domestic travel, accommodations in Bloomington, and a modest per diem for up to two weeks of research. The award will cover expenses up to a maximum of $2,000 and must be used before August 01, 2014. The recipient is expected to reside in Bloomington during the period of her/his award.

    The purpose of this FOA is to have a significant impact on reducing rates of teen pregnancy and existing disparities (see pages 7-8) by replicating evidence-based TPP programs to scale in at least 3 settings in communities and with populations at greatest need. In each community served, grantees will be expected to: * Mobilize the community to develop and implement a plan to prevent teen pregnancy and promote positive youth development* Engage in an up to 12-month planning, piloting, and readiness period* Implement evidence-based TPP programs to scale with fidelity and quality in at least settings * Ensure that program materials are medically accurate, age appropriate, culturally and linguistically appropriate, and inclusive of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) youth* Ensure that programs are implemented in a safe and supportive environment for youth and their families * Establish and maintain linkages and referrals to youth-friendly health care services * Engage in strategic dissemination and communication activities to raise awareness of the program with youth, their families, and key stakeholders* Develop and implement a plan for sustainability to ensure continuation of program efforts beyond the grant* Collect and use performance measure data to make continuous quality improvements* Evaluate the implementation and outcomes of program activities.Supporting HHS Strategic Goals, Healthy People 2020, and the National Prevention StrategyThis FOA supports the HHS Strategic Goal to "Put Children and Youth on the Path for Successful Futures."     The Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Act (DD Act), requires that the programs authorized under the law are culturally competent to ensure that individuals with developmental disabilities, regardless of background, are full participants in all aspects of community life. According to the DD Act, Sec. 101. [42 USC 15001] c Policy. "It is the policy of the United States that all programs receiving assistance under this title shall be carried out in a manner consistent with the principles that Services, supports, and other assistance should be provided that demonstrate respect for personal preferences, and cultural differences; Specific efforts must be made to ensure that individuals with developmental disabilities from racial and ethnic minority backgrounds and their families enjoy increased and meaningful opportunities to access and use community services, individualized supports available to other individuals with developmental disabilities and their families; Recruitment efforts in disciplines related to developmental disabilities in pre-service training, community training, practice, administration, and Policymaking must focus on bringing larger numbers of racial and ethnic minorities into the disciplines in order to provide appropriate skills, knowledge, role models, and sufficient personnel to address the growing needs of an increasingly diverse population."     This notice announces the opportunity to apply for funding under the National Genetics Education and Family Support Program (NGEFSP).
