    This notice solicits applications to support a Telehealth Center of Excellence. The primary purpose of this program is to examine the efficacy of telehealth[1] services in rural and urban areas. The Telehealth Center of Excellence will be located in a public academic medical center that: Has a successful telehealth program with a high annual volume of telehealth visits; Has an established reimbursement structure that allows telehealth services to be financially self-sustaining; and Has established programs that provide telehealth services in medically underserved areas with high chronic disease prevalence and high poverty rates. The Telehealth Center of Excellence will serve as a national clearinghouse for telehealth research and resources, including technical assistance. To achieve that goal, the Telehealth Center of Excellence should have substantial experience operating a telehealth program that offers a broad range of clinical services and has experience demonstrating how their efforts have improved access to care and enhanced health outcomes for their patients. [1] The Office for the Advancement of Telehealth defines Telehealth as the use of electronic information and telecommunication technologies to support and promote long-distance clinical health care, patient and professional health-related education, public health, and health administration. Technologies include video conferencing, the internet, store-and-forward imaging, streaming media, and terrestrial and wireless communications.

    HIV+ alcohol users remain at high risk for medication non-adherence and rapid disease progression, medication toxicities, organ failure, and poor viremic control, leading to increased risk of transmission and premature death. Recent advances in technology and biomedical science (e.g., new pharmacological agents, alcohol and inflammation biomarkers, internet and mobile technology) open new opportunities for strengthening the quality of HIV/alcohol-related implementation research through utilization of novel technology and biomarkers. This initiative seeks to advance knowledge on implementation and comparative effectiveness of alcohol-focused interventions among HIV+ individuals. Multiple factors need to be investigated, including potentially important patient and provider characteristics, and the organizational, financial, and structural factors that facilitate or inhibit the delivery of evidence-based services for HIV+ individuals with a range of severity of alcohol use problems. The overall goal is to inform clinical decision-making to implement effective interventions that will improve prevention, care, and outcomes across the continuum of HIV and alcohol problem severity and patterns of alcohol use. This solicitation is divided into two major topics. An application may choose to address one or both. These topics include: 1) comparative effectiveness research focused on understanding factors related to early detection, patient engagement and retention in appropriate alcohol and HIV care, and achieving and maintaining optimal treatment responses in diverse settings, and 2) modeling and testing alternative implementation approaches to improve uptake and scaling-up of effective interventions and reduce HIV disease transmission and progression.

HEAL Initiative: Pragmatic and Implementation Studies for the Management of Pain to Red... - 0 views

    This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages UG3/UH3 phased cooperative research applications to conduct efficient, large-scale pragmatic trial or implementation science study designs to improve pain management and reduce the use of opioid medications. Awards made under this FOA will initially support a one-year milestone-driven planning phase (UG3), with possible transition to an implementation phase (UH3). UG3 projects that have met the scientific milestone and feasibility requirements may transition to the UH3 phase. The UG3/UH3 application must be submitted as a single application, following the instructions described in this FOA. The overall goal of this initiative is to identify effective methods to improve the management of pain and reduce the need for opioid medications at the health care system level. This FOA requires that the intervention under study be embedded into health care delivery system, real world settings. Studies can propose to integrate interventions that have demonstrated efficacy into health care system; or implement health care system changes to improve adherence to evidence-based guidelines. Trials must be conducted across two or more health care systems (HCS) and must be conducted as part of the NIH HCS Research Collaboratory supported through the NIH Common Fund. The NIH HCS Research Collaboratory Program has established a Collaboratory Coordinating Center (CCC) that is providing national leadership and technical expertise in all aspects of research with HCS.     The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity Announcement (NOFO) is to strengthen district, state and national public health systems in India to sustain and continue advancement of Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) priorities to prevent, detect, and respond to disease threats across the country. This NOFO will help augment and transition GHSA assisted activities increasingly to Government of India (GoI) including, but not limited to the following Ministry of Family Health and Welfare (MoHFW) institutions: National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC); National Health Mission (NHM); and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Other key institutions include the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAD); the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA); and the All Indian Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS). This NOFO will focus on supporting logistical and technical requirements in five core public health capacities among these GoI institutions: antimicrobial resistance (AMR); workforce development capacity; surveillance and outbreak response; safe laboratory systems and diagnostics; public health emergency response capacity.     This notice solicits applications for Advancing Systems of Services for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs. The purpose of this program is to improve health and well-being for children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) and their families by addressing three core systems focus areas for CYSHCN-access to patient/family-centered medical home, transition of youth into the adult health care system, and adoption of health care financing models that improve care and outcomes while achieving cost savings. This program will establish a national collaborative network of resource centers supporting state Title V programs, families of CYSHCN, child health professionals, and other stakeholders through the provision of technical assistance, training, education, partnership building, policy analysis, and research. Program Goal: The overall goal of this program is to strengthen the system of services for CYSHCN and their families by awarding three separate and distinct cooperative agreements. Cooperative agreements will be awarded to three recipients, who will collaborate to establish a national network of resource centers, with one center awarded for each of the following three focus areas: (1) Patient/family-centered medical home; (2) Transition of youth into the adult health care system; and (3) Health care financing models that improve care and outcomes while achieving cost savings. The three recipients will coordinate efforts to achieve quality care, decrease health care costs, and improve experience of care for CYSHCN and their families. To that end, ENTELLIGENCE is accepting applications for its thirteenth annual Young Investigator grant program.     The Fund recognizes that young investigators may find it difficult to remain in pediatric research because of a lack of funding. Therefore, the purpose of this program is to encourage the development of medical research in child health by awarding small grants to new researchers, helping them gain a foothold in this important area. The goal is to fund applicants who will go on to be independent investigators. The Fund will make up to 30 awards total with two funding cycles (15 awards each). The Fund is open to a wide variety of research topics. We do not focus on a particular ​disease, but all our funded projects deal directly with children's health. In the Early Career Award Program, the Fund is particularly interested in applicants that show great potential to impact that field of children's health through medical research. Both an applicant's aptitude and inclination toward research are considered. The quality of the mentor and the mentoring relationship are also considered to be important predictors of success.

    The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) invites applications to evaluate the cumulative and progressive effects on brain structure and cognitive/behavioral function of combined HIV infection and alcohol abuse. This project has recruited and longitudinally tracked a large cohort of individuals with HIV infection, or alcohol abuse, or the comorbid condition. As members of this cohort are growing older and living well longer due to antiretroviral medications, this project is well suited to address several questions of current interest in the HIV-AIDS research community. These questions include the effects of coinfection with the Hepatitis C virus, the involvement of peripheral neuropathy as a factor in frailty, potential neurotoxic effects of antiretroviral medications, and interactive effects with advancing age on sensory and motor functioning.

    CDC has previously implemented population based case control studies of birth defects known as the National Birth Defects Prevention Study (NBDPS) for births from 1997-2011 and the Birth Defects Study To Evaluate Pregnancy exposureS (BD-STEPS I) which started with births in 2014 and is ongoing. The purpose of BD-STEPS II is to identify causes of birth defects and stillbirths using epidemiologic and genetic research methods and provide information that could be translated into public health prevention messages. The activities under this NOFO will be supported by two separate but related funding components: Component A. BD-STEPS II Core. To support the continuation of the epidemiological and genetic research capability of the Centers for Birth Defects Research and Prevention (CBDRP) through BD-STEPS. The intent of this BD-STEPS II is to carry out BD-STEPS using the same basic study design currently used by grantees with a focus on the key areas of: (1) maternal chronic disease and their treatments; (2) infectious disease in pregnancy; and (3) medications. In BD-STEPS II we will add focus on infectious causes of birth defects, and pilots will be conducted to determine feasibility of medication use validation. Both new sites and current BD-STEPS sites are encouraged to apply for this component. Component B. BD-STEPS stillbirth. To support the continued exploration of modifiable risk factors for stillbirths. The intent of this component is to conduct the BD-STEPS II Core interview and a follow-up interview with mothers affected by stillbirths and mothers of livebirths to conduct a case-control study of stillbirth risk factors. To be funded for Component B, applicants must have a responsive application for Component A and receive Component A funding. Both new sites and current BD-STEPS sites are encouraged to apply for this component.

In the immediate term, we are keenly focused on working with companies-large and small-to spur development of personal protective equipment for medical and non-medical use, novel testing solutions, widely-accessible therapeutics and health services to address the needs of underserved communities. As the crisis evolves, we will continue to be responsive by tackling other urgent priorities.
