he FETP graduates, staff and trainees are important assets and help build sustainable public health capacity in their countries. Through public health conferences they share field epidemiology experiences and present work investigations through oral and poster presentations. This collaboration reinforces best practices in applied epidemiology, training, surveillance, and response and introduces new tools, concepts, and training materials. However, the region’s FETPs can be more effective if their collaboration extends beyond scientific conferences. Network development can enhance surveillance, investigation and response capacity globally through regular communication and exchange of information and allow for more robust response to regional and national public health threats. In 2009, the FETPs in the East Mediterranean Region (EMRO) began to organize a network in the Middle East that partner with MOH FETP representatives, CDC and EMRO closely collaborate to strengthen existing national FETPs and regional disease surveillance. This close collaboration and networking among programs is critical as the globe faces new and re-emerging public health threats. The recent outbreaks of Ebola and Zika viruses clearly demonstrate the need for strong local and regional programs that can mobilize rapid response teams quickly and assist countries and global partners to control disease and strengthen public health infrastructure.

TheElectronics, Photonics and Magnetic Devices (EPMD) Programsupports innovative research on novel devices based on the principles of electronics, optics and photonics, optoelectronics, magnetics, opto- and electromechanics, electromagnetics, and related physical phenomena. EPMD’s goal is to advance the frontiers of micro-, nano- and quantum-based devices operating within the electromagnetic spectrum and contributing to a broad range of application domains including information and communications, imaging and sensing, healthcare, Internet of Things, energy, infrastructure, and manufacturing. The program encourages research based on emerging technologies for miniaturization, integration, and energy efficiency as well as novel material-based devices with new functionalities, improved efficiency, flexibility, tunability, wearability, and enhanced reliability.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support observational or intervention research focused on reducing health disparities in tobacco use in the United States. Specifically, this FOA is intended to stimulate scientific inquiry focused on innovative tobacco control policies. Applicants may propose projects in which the primary outcome of interest is on reducing tobacco use health disparities in vulnerable populations by utilizing tobacco prevention and control strategies. The long-term goal of this FOA is to reduce health disparities in health outcomes thereby reducing the excess disease burden of tobacco use within these groups. Applicants submitting applications related to health economics are encouraged to consult NOT-OD-16-025 to ensure that applications align with NIH mission priorities in health economics research. This FOA utilizes the Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21) mechanism, which supports investigation of novel scientific ideas or new model systems, tools, or technologies that have the potential for significant impact on biomedical or biobehavioral research. NIAAA is seeking applications for medications development research projects from both for-profit and not-for-profit entities, including academic institutions, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, private and public foundations, small businesses not eligible for the SBIR/STTR program and single entities able to demonstrate significant resource commitment to the proposed project. A resource commitment from a single entity could, for example, consist of salary support for key personnel or production and formulation of clinical trial material.

The Shared Instrumentation for Animal Research (SIFAR) Grant Program encourages applications from groups of NIH-funded investigators to purchase or upgrade scientific instruments necessary to carry out animal experiments in all areas of biomedical research supported by the NIH. Under the authority of Section 21(c) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSH Act), the U .S. Department of Labor (DOL) Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) established its discretionary grant program in 1978. In 1997, the program was renamed in honor of the late Susan Harwood, a former director of OSHA's Office of Risk Assessment. The program offers an opportunity for nonprofit organizations to compete annually for funding so they may develop and conduct training and education programs for small business employers and workers on the recognition, avoidance, and prevention of occupational safety and health hazards in their workplaces, and to inform workers of their rights and employers of their responsibilities under the OSH Act. For FY 2017, OSHA announces the availability of approximately $10.5 million to fund new Susan Harwood Training Grants. OSHA expects to award multiple grants to eligible nonprofit organizations under this competitive Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA). The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to announce a program to strengthen the nation's public health infrastructure, ensure a competent, current and connected public health system, and improve delivery of essential services through capacity building assistance (CBA). CBA is defined as activities that strengthen and maintain the infrastructure and resources necessary to sustain or improve system, organizational, community or individual processes and competencies. The Louisiana State University Special Collections department invites applications to our 2020-2021 research travel grant program. The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support research that advances compounds towards FDA approval by leveraging NIDA funds with the strengths and resources of outside organizations, such as for-profit and not-for-profit entities, including academic institutions, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, private and public foundations, and small businesses. Applications from single entities that possess considerable resources for medications development will also be considered, provided the entity demonstrates a significant resource commitment to the proposed project. A resource commitment from a single entity could, for example, consist of salary support for key personnel or production and formulation of clinical trial material. It is anticipated that in comparison with traditional grant-funded research, strategic alliances will increase the pace at which medications to treat Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) move through the drug development process. Both the project period and budget of the grant are consistent with the objective of accelerating the pace of medications development compared to traditional research project grant funding. Project aims can range from the development of a new molecular entity to the expansion of an existing medication's clinical indication(s). Each project should have a defined entry and exit point in the medications development pathway, with the objective of advancement in the FDA approval process. It is hoped that support for these collaborations will accelerate the rate of medications development for SUDs.

Millions of people with HIV/AIDS now have extended life spans as a result of targeted HIV testing services and scale-up of effective anti-retroviral therapy (ART), resulting in increased need to 1) effectively manage large volumes of data; 2) accurately track patient cohorts across space and time; 3) track utilization of human and material resources; and 4) support evidence-driven decisions. Interoperable health information systems (HIS), including electronic medical records (EMR) and laboratory information systems (LIS), are essential tools for collecting, managing, and using these data. This NOFO will support countries to 1) design, develop, implement, and evaluate HIS; 2) develop and improve policy, governance, and infrastructure needed to implement HIS and increase sustainability and country ownership; 3) sustain informatics workforce and capacity development; and 4) protect, secure, standardize, exchange, and share data to improve health.

Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association are launching the Healthy Relationships Community Grants initiative to address positive relationship health, with self and others. The initiative will focus on three distinct areas: 1. Build and improve relationship skills of the next generation as a prevention strategy. Organizational efforts may include, but are not limited to, the following: -Educate the public (with a preference for youth populations) on the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships as it relates to inter-personal violence (e.g., intimate partner, family, or teen dating violence) as part of prevention and awareness efforts (e.g., Create, produce and distribute PSAs with relevant content and call to action, Conference/events with a focus on education) -Support existing or introduce new programming on how to break the cycle of violence 2. Build and improve mental health resiliency for vulnerable populations. Organizational efforts may include, but are not limited to, the following: - Provide greater access to quality mental health services and wellness programs - Preventative programs designed to reduce suicide, suicidal ideations and self-harm - Training programs for mental health professionals working with vulnerable populations - School or community-based interventions for vulnerable populations 3. This is an invitation for collaborative proposals which focus on addressing the challenges Primary Care Providers experience in serving Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities during pandemic and/or emergency situations. Proposals should use one of the following approaches: Educational materials: Develop additional educational resources related to pandemic and/or emergency response for Primary Care Providers who serve adults with I/DD Implementation: Supports implementation of models, i.e. projects that support community-based PCPs in providing care to adults with I/DD during pandemic and/or emergency situations Research: Supports regional or national research related to Primary Care Providers who serve adults with I/DD role during pandemic and emergency situations A secondary goal of this RFP is to foster new partnerships or significantly enhance existing partnerships between disability organizations, advocates, community organizations, and healthcare providers.
