To that end, IADR, with support from Unilever, is accepting applications for the 2015 IADR Unilever Social Entrepreneur Approach to Change Oral Health Behavior Research Award (or SEA Change Research Award). The annual program, which includes an unrestricted grant of up to $75,000, is designed to stimulate scientific research aimed at improving behavior at the individual or community level with respect to oral health, with a particular emphasis on interventions targeted to disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. Examples of research areas of interest include but are not be limited to demonstrations of the effectiveness of social-entrepreneurial approaches to improving individual health decisions; expanding current behavioral change models; demonstrating the effectiveness of positive oral health messaging in a complex social milieu; and/or exploring the underlying social determinants of health, including oral health. Projects must be science-driven and focus on the evaluation of the effectiveness of an existing or proposed intervention at the individual or community level. Priority will be given to projects that focus on disadvantaged and vulnerable populations.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) and Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2015 Statewide Peer Networks for Recovery and Resiliency (Short Title: Statewide Peer Networks for R&R) grants. The purpose of this grant program is to create and/or enhance statewide networks that represent mental health and addictions recovery communities to improve access to and the quality of behavioral health systems, services, treatment and recovery supports statewide. Formal SAMHSA-funded networks already exist in many states for specific recovery and family communities; this program is designed specifically to bridge and unify recovery networks for mental health consumers, families of children with serious emotional disturbance and youth, as well as those in recovery from addictions. Current SAMHSA-funded Recovery Community Services Program-Statewide Networks (RCSP-SNs), and current and formerly-funded Statewide Consumer Networks (SCNs) grants and Statewide Family Networks (SFNs) will work together to enhance and promote cross-service system, peer workforce, and infrastructure development that is recovery-focused and resiliency-oriented. This program builds on the FY 2014 program for RCSP-SNs, SFNs, and SCNs to develop intentional, collaborative efforts via Memoranda of Agreement (MOA) and sharing of fiscal resources. The intent of this program is for RCSP-SN, SFN, and SCN grantees within a state to form a collaboration that will develop a strategic plan, share resources, engage in cross-training, increase capacity to affect behavioral health systems change at the state and local levels, and to improve behavioral health outcomes for persons in recovery from serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders, and family members of children with serious emotional disturbances and youth/young adults. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Mental Health Services is accepting applications for a fiscal year (FY) 2015 Suicide Prevention Resource Center grant. The purpose of this program is to build national capacity for preventing suicide by providing technical assistance, training, and resources to assist states, tribes, organizations, SAMHSA Garrett Lee Smith and other SAMHSA grantees, and individuals to develop suicide prevention strategies (including programs, interventions, and policies) that advance the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (NSSP), with the overall goal of reducing suicides and suicidal behaviors in the nation. This work includes support of the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Action Alliance), and working to advance high-impact objectives of the NSSP. The Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) is the nation's only technical assistance center whose mission is to advance the NSSP, a roadmap for action that if fully implemented would significantly reduce the number of suicide attempts and deaths within this country. Full implementation of the NSSP requires multiple approaches at multiple levels among multiple entities. Effective approaches require a comprehensive, sustained, data-drive strategy; an active, effective community component as well as an active, effective, clinical systems approach; and community systems that include a wide range of public and private partners. SPRC's work must target approaches, systems, and entities with the highest potential to prevent suicidal crises and save the most lives. All of SPRC's efforts are driven by the ultimate goal of reducing suicide attempts and deaths in this country. The SPRC grant closely aligns with SAMHSA's Strategic Initiative on Prevention of Substance Abuse and Mental Illness. The Administration for Children and Families, Administration on Children, Youth and Families' Family and Youth Services Bureau announces the availability of funds under the Title V Competitive Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (CSRAE) Program. The purpose of the CSRAE is to fund projects to implement sexual risk avoidance education that teaches participants how to voluntarily refrain from non-marital sexual activity. The goals of CSRAE are to empower participants to make healthy decisions, and provide tools and resources to prevent pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and youth engagement in other risky behaviors. Successful applicants must agree to use medically accurate information referenced to peer-reviewed publications by educational, scientific, governmental, or health organizations; implement an evidence-based approach integrating research findings with practical implementation that aligns with the needs and desired outcomes for the intended audience; and teach the benefits associated with self-regulation, success sequencing for poverty prevention, healthy relationships, goal setting, and resisting sexual coercion, dating violence, and other youth risk behaviors such as underage drinking or illicit drug use without normalizing teen sexual activity. The SRAE legislation requires unambiguous and primary emphasis and context for each of the topics to be addressed in program implementation. Additionally, there is a requirement that messages to youth normalize the optimal health behavior of avoiding non-marital sexual activity.

CDC announces the availability of fiscal year (FY) 2020 funds to implement CDC-RFA-DP20-2007, the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS): Impact in Population Health. CDC established the BRFSS in 1984 with 15 states participating in monthly data collection. Since that time, the BRFSS has grown to be the only continuous, state-based health surveillance system that is conducted nationwide. The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to provide financial and technical assistance to recipients to conduct health-related behavioral surveillance through the BRFSS and increase the use of BRFSS data to inform public health actions to improve health. The period of performance for this NOFO is three years with a 12-month budget period and an anticipated award date of August 1, 2020.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH.  The over-arching goal of this NIDDK R25 program is to support educational activities that enhance the diversity of the biomedical, behavioral and clinical research workforce.  This R25 program encourages Professional Societies to design and implement educational programs with the goal of recruiting of individuals from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue careers in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical, and social sciences workforce. Applications from Professional Societies supporting the NIDDK mission areas are encouraged to develop educational programs aimed at recruiting talented , fellows, and junior faculty from groups underrepresented in biomedical, behavioral, clinical, and social sciences research in the NIDDK mission areas. Professional Societies should propose an educational program based upon an educational experiment which includes a diversity management plan for the Society which should enhance the diversity of the biomedical research workforce, and the pool of individuals from under represented groups in the organization's programs and leadership.

To foster innovative collaborative approaches to research projects that propose novel pairings of investigators from at least two broadly disparate disciplines. The proposal must focus on the collaborative relationship, such that the scientific objectives could not be achieved without the efforts of at least two co-principal investigators and their respective disciplines. The combination and integration of studies may be inclusive of basic, clinical, population, behavioral, and/or translational research. Projects must include at least one Co-PI from a field outside cardiovascular disease and stroke. This award is also intended to foster collaboration between established and early- or mid-career investigators. Applications by existing collaborators are permitted, provided that the proposal is for a new and novel idea or approach that has not been funded before. Multidisciplinary research broadly related to cardiovascular function, cardiovascular disease, and stroke, or to related clinical, basic science, bioengineering, biotechnology, or public health problems. The FirstRisk Advisors Initiatives in College Mental/Behavioral Health Funding Opportunity is designed to fund the development of creative initiatives that address prevention, early intervention, and treatment for mental and behavioral health disorders among students. The goal of these initiatives is to reduce the risk of mental and behavioral illness and injury among college students and to enhance both individual and community health as a strategy to support student learning. 

The Fahs-Beck Fund for Research and Experimentation is accepting applications to support behavioral or psychological research studies based in the United States or Canada. Through its Faculty/Post-Doctoral Fellows program, the fund will award grants of up to $20,000 to studies designed to develop, refine, evaluate, or disseminate innovative interventions aimed at preventing or ameliorating major social, psychological, behavioral, or public health problems affecting children, adults, couples, families, or communities.
