The Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF) Grant Program supports research directed towards enhancing anesthesia patient safety.  The Program's objective is to stimulate and fund studies that will clearly improve patient safety and lead to prevention of mortality and morbidity resulting from anesthesia mishaps.  The APSF vision and mission statements help guide this process. The APSF's vision statement is that no patient shall be harmed by anesthesia and the mission is to improve the safety of patients during anesthesia care by encouraging and conducting: safety research and education; patient safety programs and campaigns; and national and international exchange of information and ideas.

The Doctors Company Foundation was created in 2008 by the Doctors Company, the nation's largest insurer of medical professional liability for physicians, surgeons, and other health professionals. The purpose of the foundation is to support patient safety education for healthcare professionals in training and in practice, as well as patient safety research with clinically useful applications. To advance this mission, the foundation is accepting applications for research and education programs and projects designed to enhance patient safety. Grant amounts will be determined on an individual basis based on project budget and availability of funds. The foundation does not support clinical research projects primarily involving the provision of medical support services to patients. Construction projects and the purchase of equipment will not be funded. While general funding for medical meetings and conferences will not be considered, support for invited speakers when the principal focus of their presentation is on patient safety and support for the attendance of healthcare professionals in training at patient safety conferences will be considered.

The American Society of Breast Surgeons Foundation awards grants related to patient breast care and medical education. The foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to improving the standard of care for breast disease patients by providing support for medical and patient education, advancing breast disease research and diagnosis and treatment technologies, and offering programs and services to medical professionals and their patients.

CMF works to improve health care outcomes through grant funding of: * Programs and initiatives that improve patient safety and quality of care through education and training of health care professionals or through systems changes and improvements; * Pilot programs that are designed to reduce medical errors; and * Development and implementation of checklists and other tools to improve disease management and transitions in care. The 2021 focus area is fragmentation across care settings. Breakdowns in care from a fragmented healthcare system can lead to readmissions, missed diagnoses, medication errors, delayed treatment, duplicative testing and procedures, and reduction in quality of care leading to general patient and provider dissatisfaction. Healthcare organizations must collaborate with each other and decide how to transfer information about patients they share. For example, health information technology can help providers share information about their patients. Organizations must devise strategies to "close the loop" and ensure that providers are aware of and address actionable patient information, such as test results.

The American College of Cardiology's Accreditation Services help hospitals improve care for patients with acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation. In 2016, ACC merged with the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the care and outcomes of patients worldwide facing the same complications. To preserve the legacy of SCPC, an endowment was created to support future cardiovascular quality or performance improvement initiatives, particularly those that underscore the importance of accreditation. To advance that mission, ACCF is accepting proposals that support cardiovascular quality improvement of cardiovascular care and patient outcomes. Awards of up to $100,000 will support projects that contribute to the evidence base for accreditation; develop or evaluate cardiovascular quality initiatives that strengthen the accreditation process; provide opportunities for education that support quality or performance improvement projects; improve EMS systems of care in collaboration with community hospitals providing accreditation services; or provide public health education to improve community measures/outcomes related to early recognition of heart attack symptoms and appropriate action steps.

The purpose of the NHEPL is to reduce lupus related health disparities among racial and ethnic minority populations disproportionately affected by this disease by conducting a national lupus education initiative that includes the general public, health professionals and student trainees in targeted communities, schools and health care systems and practices. Three to five grantees will be funded to conduct this national initiative. These grantees will be responsible for conducting at least two of the following three priority activities: A. Conduct provider training to include physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals to engage them to improve lupus diagnosis and treatment through education, appropriate linkages to care, disease management, and enrollment in health coverage.B. Implement a lupus program through a comprehensive community level education effort that will serve persons living with lupus and their family members. The program will include: community outreach to improve awareness and understanding oflupus and management of primary and secondary conditions; access to care and coverage to increase the number of persons linked to health care services and enrolled in health coverage; and communication strategies such as electronic media and patient/provider software application development to improve disease management and outcomes and patient/provider communication.C. Develop and maintain patient and family care networks to identify strategies that address the emotional and social support needs of individuals diagnosed with lupus and their families and improve care coordination across the health care delivery system.

Through this RFP it is our intent to support patient-focused programs that help patients and providers address the heightened medical and educational needs of patients with PI during this pandemic. Priority will be awarded to projects that leverage the utilization of innovative technology platforms for distant learning to reach the intended audience with a focus on patient outreach, medical support and telework.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this NCI R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Curriculum or Methods Development. Applications are encouraged that propose innovative, state-of-the-art programs that address the cause, diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, or the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.

Scientists and patient advocacy groups often use a series of photos, commissioned by NEI some thirty years ago, when they wish to depict the visual experience of patients suffering from blinding diseases. At the time they were created, these images reflected the field's understanding of visual perception for such patients. But the field has advanced considerably since then, and these static images are considered overly simplistic, inaccurate, and generally unsatisfactory. At the same time, technology has evolved to where it is possible to use video and virtual reality to more authentically demonstrate (or even simulate) the experience of have a blinding disease. As part of the efforts of the NEI 50th Anniversary Planning Committee, the institute seeks the support of experts in blinding diseases, visual psychophysics, and video/virtual reality production to create a scientifically accurate and clinically authentic blindness simulation "experience" that can be used for education, public advocacy, and research purposes and a series of short videos that can be posted online for education and public outreach.

In an effort to support cardiovascular quality and performance improvement, the ACC provides funding opportunities that support future cardiovascular quality initiatives (QI) or performance improvement (PI), particularly those that highlight the importance of accreditation. Funding to support these projects is made possible by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC), which was a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the care and outcomes of patients worldwide with suspected acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation through innovative cross-disciplinary processes. Its merger with the American College of Cardiology Foundation (ACCF) in 2016 provided an opportunity to leverage the accreditation strength of the SCPC into the large portfolio of services the ACCF offers. To preserve the legacy of the SCPC, an endowment was created to support future cardiovascular QI or PI, particularly those efforts that highlight the importance of accreditation. Pharmaceutical company AmerisourceBergen created the AmerisourceBergen Foundation as a separate not-for-profit charitable organization with the aim of supporting health and education-related causes that enrich the lives of its global community. To accomplish that goal, the foundation provides funding for programs and organizations focused on expanding access to quality healthcare - both human and animal - around the world. In the view of the foundation, the current epidemic of opioid abuse and misuse is a crisis that demands attention, action, and accountability. Understanding the need for expediency, the foundation is inviting grant-funded nonprofit organizations to submit proposals that describe how it can best contribute resources and funding to address opioid abuse and misuse. Grants will be awarded for the most innovative and constructive solutions in one of two key areas of focus: safe disposal and education around prevention. Applicants are strongly encouraged to identify and leverage existing, proven, evidence-based frameworks and strategies, as well as existing tools and materials, but may also propose original and innovative projects. Applications focused on education may address a spectrum of needs, but priority will be given to the effective dissemination of the following topics: provider education about appropriate opioid prescribing; patient education about the risks and effects of prescription opioids, and what to do if they have concerns about addiction; public education, especially aimed at rural communities; training to reduce youth risk factors (such as delinquency) and boost protective factors (such as decision-making skills for problem solving and resisting peer pressure; addiction as a childhood onset condition; preventing teens from initiating problematic opioid use in the first place; and advising parents of teens to lock up prescription opioid medications and dispose of old pills.

Traditional models of telehealth involve care delivered to a patient at an originating (or spoke) site from a specialist working at a distant (or hub) site. A telehealth network consists of a series of originating sites receiving services from a collaborating distant site. For the purposes of this NOFO, telehealth is defined as the use of electronic information and telecommunication technologies to support and promote long-distance clinical health care, patient and professional health-related education, public health and health administration. Telehealth modalities to be used to support clinical treatment may include video conferencing, the internet, store-and-forward imaging, streaming media, and terrestrial and wireless communications.

The Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF) and The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) offer the joint APSF/FAER Mentored Research Training Grant (MRTG) to develop the next generation of perioperative patient safety scientists.

Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) in collaboration with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has maintained a long-standing relationship in the development and advancement of the Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit (PEHSU) Program, through ongoing cooperative agreements initiated by ATSDR. The PEHSU serves health professionals, community organizations, governmental officials, federal staff, child-care providers, parents, and others having interest in environmental conditions that influence reproductive and pediatric health. Primary focuses of the PEHSU are to: (1) Build the capacity of primary care clinicians to recognize environmental exposure risks, provide risk reduction counseling, and deliver patient care to those at risk of or harm from acute or chronic exposures to hazardous substances in the environment. (2) Integrate environmental health content, placing emphasis on hazardous substances in the environment and related health effects, into pre-service clinical (i.e., medical, nursing, and allied health) course work; and primary care residency programs (i.e., clinicians in pediatrics, family medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology). (3) Increase patient and population awareness of environmental exposure risks and ways to reduce those risks. (4) Provide education and consultative services to community members, clinicians, state and local health departments, appropriate federal programs, and others involved in protecting children and couples of reproductive age from environmental threats. (5) Provide educational and consultative assistance in communities where ATSDR and/or Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are addressing environmental contamination.

The PFD Research Foundation together with the June Allyson Foundation has awarded over $1.5 million in grants to AUGS members since 1998. The Foundation serves the medical profession by supporting promising, innovative research regarding the causes, prevention, cure and treatment of pelvic floor disorders. Foundation research funds are made available to qualified AUGS members to pursue their research question. Goals of this research grant program are to support the completion of research projects which will lead to publication and presentation at future AUGS Annual Scientific Meetings and to support the development of researchers in the field who will go on to obtain additional funding for future research on pelvic floor disorders. Applicants can submit proposals for the following research awards: PFD Research Foundation Fellow Research Award: A two-year grant awarded to a fellow for clinical/patient-oriented, educational, or lab-based/basic science research. PFD Research Foundation Faculty Research Award: A two-year grant awarded to a junior faculty or affiliate member for clinical/patient-oriented, educational, or lab-based/basic science research. June Allyson Memorial Fund Research Award: A two-year grant awarded to a fellow for lab-based/basic science research. PFD Research Foundation and ICA IC/PBS Research Grant: A one-year grant awarded to a fellow, junior faculty or affiliate member of AUGS and ICA for research related to interstitial cystitis.

The AHCJ Reporting Fellowships on Health Care Performance are intended to support U.S.-based applicants who have interesting projects in mind for their news outlets that hold the promise of informing and educating the public. Applicants should have a working knowledge of the topic and a good idea of what it will take to complete the project. The project could take several forms. The fellow could choose to evaluate a local health system or a specific local or regional program or an aspect of the national system. An approach might be to compare two health care systems addressing a common problem - access to care for poor and uninsured patients, for example - to see why one community is performing better and why. Fellows pursuing projects such as these would want to consider public data and relevant academic studies in addition to interviews with health care and civic leaders, patients and others.

This notice solicits applications to support a Telehealth Center of Excellence. The primary purpose of this program is to examine the efficacy of telehealth[1] services in rural and urban areas. The Telehealth Center of Excellence will be located in a public academic medical center that: Has a successful telehealth program with a high annual volume of telehealth visits; Has an established reimbursement structure that allows telehealth services to be financially self-sustaining; and Has established programs that provide telehealth services in medically underserved areas with high chronic disease prevalence and high poverty rates. The Telehealth Center of Excellence will serve as a national clearinghouse for telehealth research and resources, including technical assistance. To achieve that goal, the Telehealth Center of Excellence should have substantial experience operating a telehealth program that offers a broad range of clinical services and has experience demonstrating how their efforts have improved access to care and enhanced health outcomes for their patients.
