The National Association of School Nurses, in partnership with the American Nurses Foundation, is accepting applications for the 2019 NASN/ANF Research Grant program. Through the program, the foundation will award grants of up to $5,000 in support of research projects focused on school nurse impact on health disparities, students with chronic health conditions, and student safety; innovative models of school nursing practice; cost-benefit analysis of school nursing; and/or impact of school nurse activities related to social determinants of health on student health and educational outcomes. The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International is accepting applications for its 2018 Educational Assessment Nursing Research Grant, which is co-sponsored by ATI Nursing Education. One grant of up to $6,000 will be awarded for research demonstrating the use of standardized assessments and curriculum support materials in nursing education. Possible research areas include, but are not limited to, admission and retention of students, assessing student performance, and simulation. To be eligible, applicants must be a registered nurse with current license and have a master's or doctoral degree or be enrolled in a doctoral program.

The mission of Sigma Theta Tau International is to advance global health and celebrate nursing excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and service. To that end, STTI is accepting applications for its 2017 STTI/Doris Bloch Research Award. Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded to encourage nurses to contribute to the advancement of nursing through research.

The Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation supports nurse-led healthcare innovation and research, with the goal of improving patient care in hospitals, clinics, homes, and communities. Nurses operate at the junction of public policy, medical science, systems-based healthcare delivery, and one-on-one patient care. Drawing on its knowledge of this unique and important role, the foundation believes it has valuable insights with respect to relevant modes of research and alternative models that can lead to more equitable, patient-centered health care. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for its Hillman Emergent Innovation Serious Illness and End of Life Emergent Innovation program. Through the program, up to five grants of $50,000 will be awarded in support of pre-evidence or untested innovations that challenge traditional approaches to serious illness and end-of-life care and lead to bold, nursing-driven interventions targeting the unmet needs of vulnerable populations, including the economically disadvantaged, racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQ people, the homeless, rural populations, and others.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to encourage modular budget R01 grant applications from nurse scientists who are currently or were recently supported by an NIH Career Development (K) award. This opportunity is limited to those K awardee nurse scientists who have not yet earned an R01 equivalent award. Through this opportunity, NINR seeks to enhance the transition of nurse scientists to independent investigator status.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) encourages the submission of applications that propose to conduct research that is of high-priority to NCCAM that requires synergistic collaboration between outstanding scientists and the synthesis of multiple research approaches by multi-disciplinary research teams. The Center of Excellence for Research on CAM (CERC) program is designed to support research in which the funding of three or four synergistic, highly meritorious projects as a group offers significant scientific advantages over support of the same projects as individual research grants. Each CERC must consist of, throughout the duration of the award, a minimum of three research projects, focused on basic, mechanistic, and/or translational research questions relevant to the research priorities described in the current NCCAM Strategic Plan.

AREA grants are intended to support small-scale research projects proposed by faculty members of eligible, domestic institutions, to expose undergraduate and/or graduate students to meritorious research projects, and to strengthen the research environment of the applicant institution.

The Henrietta B. and Frederick H. Bugher Foundation has joined with the American Stroke Association (ASA, a division of the American Heart Association) to support a network of three Centers of Excellence in Stroke Collaborative Research for a period of four years. The intent of this initiative is to support a collaboration of basic, clinical and population researchers from different specialties whose collective efforts will lead to new approaches, not only to improve the prevention of stroke, but to also expand upon the previous Bugher Stroke initiatives by inviting research on recovery after a stroke; including the areas of repair, regeneration, neuro-plasticity and rehabilitation.   Within the scope of stroke research, scientific disciplines may range from basic to clinical to population with bridges to translational research.  The application must contain at least two of these three disciplines.  Areas of recovery, secondary prevention, nursing, psychology, psychiatry and neuropsychology are strongly encouraged.    A focus has again been placed on fellowship training and cross-center collaboration for this new initiative.  Prospective applicants will be required to illustrate their capability to not only train fellows in stroke research, but also their commitment to collaborate with scientists outside their institution.

The intent of the research funded through this award is to (1) support research to alleviate, stabilize, or characterize the symptoms or deficits common to TBI and AD/ADRD, and (2) reduce the burden of care on the caregiver for individuals living with the common symptoms of TBI and AD/ADRD. Research may be proposed to either facet of the intent. Both are equally important. As part of the research strategy, all applications must include cognitive, neuropsychological, or otherwise appropriate measures.The FY17 PRARP QUAL is open to Principal Investigators (PIs) at or above the level of Assistant Professor (or equivalent) from any field or discipline. As part of the application, the PI should demonstrate that the study team has experience in both TBI and AD/ADRD research. Preliminary data, while not required, are encouraged. Preliminary data may come from the PI's published work, pilot data, or from peer-reviewed literature. Applications should also address how all of the included study measures address the research strategy and the study's hypothesis or hypotheses.The anticipated direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance for an FY17 PRARP QUAL will not exceed $500,000. The maximum period of performance is 3 years. The purpose of the High Impact, Interdisciplinary Science grants program is to support high impact ideas that may lay the foundation for new fields of investigation within the mission of NIDDK. The interdisciplinary approach encouraged by this FOA is envisioned to generate a community research resource for the broader community, which may include discovery-based or hypothesis-generating science. The interdisciplinary research team should be able to provide an integrative plan of working together to effectively address the complex challenge at hand. This program will support research projects that accelerate critical breakthroughs, early and applied research on cutting-edge technologies, and new approaches to improve the synergy and interactions among multi- and interdisciplinary research teams, including sharing of data and other resources to further advance research in this area. This FOA seeks novel approaches in areas that address specific knowledge gaps, scientific opportunities, new technologies, data generation, or research methods that will advance the area in significant ways designed to accelerate scientific progress in the understanding, treatment and prevention of diseases within the mission of NIDDK.

The ASPEN Rhoads Research Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, is dedicated to improving patient care by advancing the science and practice of clinical nutrition and metabolism. Founded in 1976, ASPEN is an interdisciplinary organization whose members are involved in the provision of clinical nutrition therapies, including parenteral and enteral nutrition. With more than sixty-five hundred members from around the world, ASPEN is a community of dietitians, nurses, pharmacists, physicians, scientists, students, and other health professionals from every facet of nutrition support clinical practice, research, and education. To advance its mission, the foundation is accepting applications for its ASPEN Rhoads Research Foundation Grants program. Through the annual program, grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded for research projects by early-career investigators focused on clinical nutrition and metabolic support in alignment with the priorities outlined in the ASPEN Research Agenda.

The Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Fellowship for Students at Institutions Without NIH-Funded Institutional Predoctoral Dual-Degree Training Programs (Parent F30) award will support students at institutions without formal NIH-funded institutional predoctoral dual-degree training programs. The purpose of this FOA is to enhance the integrated research and clinical training of promising predoctoral students, who are matriculated in a combined MD/PhD or other dual-doctoral degree training program (e.g., DO/PhD, DDS/PhD, AuD/PhD, DVM/PhD), and who intend careers as physician/clinician-scientists. Applicants must propose an integrated research and clinical training plan and a dissertation research project in scientific health-related fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers. The fellowship experience is expected to clearly enhance the individuals' potential to develop into a productive, independent physician/clinician-scientist. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is designed specifically for applicants proposing research that does not involve leading an independent clinical trial, a clinical trial feasibility study, or an ancillary study to a clinical trial, but does allow applicants to propose research experience in a clinical trial led by a sponsor or co-sponsor.

ASPEN is accepting applications to its annual Rhoads Research Foundation Grants program. Through the program, grants of $25,000 (renewable for one year) and $10,000 (non-renewable) will be awarded to exceptional early-career investigators in support of clinical metabolic and nutrition support research in alignment with the priorities outlined in the ASPEN Research Agenda. Research supported by the foundation includes both basic science-oriented investigations aimed at improving the understanding of the science of nutrient regulation in different disease states, as well as clinical and translational research to determine how the practice of nutrition support can continue to be refined and individualized to optimize clinical outcomes.

To foster innovative collaborative approaches to research projects that propose novel pairings of investigators from at least two broadly disparate disciplines. The proposal must focus on the collaborative relationship, such that the scientific objectives could not be achieved without the efforts of at least two co-principal investigators and their respective disciplines. The combination and integration of studies may be inclusive of basic, clinical, population, behavioral, and/or translational research. Projects must include at least one Co-PI from a field outside cardiovascular disease and stroke. This award is also intended to foster collaboration between established and early- or mid-career investigators. Applications by existing collaborators are permitted, provided that the proposal is for a new and novel idea or approach that has not been funded before. Multidisciplinary research broadly related to cardiovascular function, cardiovascular disease, and stroke, or to related clinical, basic science, bioengineering, biotechnology, or public health problems. Proposals are encouraged from all basic science disciplines as well as epidemiological, behavioral, community and clinical investigations that bear on cardiovascular and stroke problems. AHA awards are open to the array of academic and health professionals. This includes but is not limited to all academic disciplines (biology, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, technology, physics, etc.) and all health-related professions (physicians, nurses, advanced practice nurses, pharmacists, dentists, physical and occupational therapists, statisticians, nutritionists, behavioral scientists, health attorneys, engineers, etc.).

Allocation of funds is based on the quality of the proposed research, the future promise of the applicant, and the applicant's research budget. Annual funding for this grant is provided by the Sigma Theta Tau International Foundation for Nursing's Patricia E. Thompson Giving Circle donors. Preference will be given to Sigma Theta Tau members, other qualifications being equal.

The PhRMA Foundation is accepting applications to its Health Outcomes program. Health Outcomes research spans a broad spectrum of issues related to healthcare delivery, from studies evaluating the effectiveness of a pharmaceutical intervention to the impact of reimbursement policies on outcomes of care. It also ranges from the development and use of tools to perform patient-based assessments to analyses of ways in which results of outcomes research are disseminated to providers or consumers to encourage behavior change. Through the program, one-year grants of up to $100,000 will be awarded to assist individuals beginning an independent research career in health outcomes at the faculty level. Schools of medicine, pharmacy, public health, nursing, and dentistry are eligible to apply. The program is not intended for individuals in postdoctoral training. However, those enrolled in postdoctoral training programs scheduled to conclude by July 1, 2019, and who will hold an academic appointment by that time may apply. Those holding the academic rank of instructor or assistant professor and investigators at the doctoral level with equivalent positions are eligible to apply - provided the proposed research is neither directly nor indirectly subsidized to any significant degree by an extramural support mechanism.
