    This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications from institutions/organizations that propose to establish core centers that are part of an integrated and existing program of nutrition and/or obesity research. The Nutrition Obesity Research Centers (NORC) program is designed to support and enhance the national research effort in nutrition and obesity. NORCs support three primary research-related activities: Research Core services, a Pilot and Feasibility (P and F) program, and an Enrichment program. All activities pursued by Nutrition Obesity Research Centers are designed to enhance the efficiency, productivity, effectiveness and multidisciplinary nature of research in nutrition and obesity. Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Nutrition Training Program - 0 views

    This notice solicits applications for the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Nutrition Training Program. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) will award funds to establish and enhance nutrition centers of excellence to improve access to comprehensive, community-based, nutrition-centered, and culturally competent coordinated care by increasing the availability of practitioners trained in MCH nutrition that are able to meet the needs of MCH populations. The program improves access to quality health care by (1) providing MCH nutrition professionals with interdisciplinary graduate education and training with a public health focus and emphasis on MCH populations and services - education and training designed to improve workforce capacity and foster leadership in program development and administration, systems integration, education, and nutrition services; (2) developing and disseminating curricula, teaching models, and other educational resources to enhance MCH nutrition programs; and (3) providing continuing education, consultation and technical assistance to local, state, and national organizations serving MCH populations while working in collaboration with State Title V and other MCH programs in order to address the needs of the MCH community.

    The ASPEN Rhoads Research Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, is dedicated to improving patient care by advancing the science and practice of clinical nutrition and metabolism. Founded in 1976, ASPEN is an interdisciplinary organization whose members are involved in the provision of clinical nutrition therapies, including parenteral and enteral nutrition. With more than sixty-five hundred members from around the world, ASPEN is a community of dietitians, nurses, pharmacists, physicians, scientists, students, and other health professionals from every facet of nutrition support clinical practice, research, and education. To advance its mission, the foundation is accepting applications for its ASPEN Rhoads Research Foundation Grants program.     The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), through the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), is responsible for providing Federal grants to States for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education (including breastfeeding promotion and support) for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk. The legislative authority for this grant announcement is contained in the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 Section 17 (g) (5)[1] as amended and Section 1472 of the National Agriculture Research, Extension, and Teaching Policy Act of 1977, 7 U.S.C. 3318, codified at 7 CFR 2.19(a)(3)(x) in January 2009. This is an announcement of the availability of funds for one new cooperative agreement for FY 2017-2019 with a public or private Academic or Research Institution. In this funding cycle, the USDA anticipates awarding up to $1,000,000 in grant funding to support the creation of a Participant Research Innovation Laboratory for administering and awarding sub-grants for researcher-initiated projects that develop and test strategies to encourage retention of children in WIC. Developed strategies should focus on WIC service delivery sites or retail environments. Further, strategies must acknowledge the social and cultural diversity of WIC participants and those eligible for the Program.

    This funding opportunity is for competitive grants to be awarded to support systematic testing and documentation of innovative and promising practices that enhance the quality, effectiveness, and proven outcomes of nutrition programs and services within the aging services network. Innovative and promising practice projects awarded through previous INNU announcements have focused on at least one of the following areas; Creating partnerships between Universities and/or other research organizations in collaboration with aging network organizations to develop or test innovative evidence based programs or practices for senior nutrition; Modernizing the congregate and/or home delivered meal program infrastructure, delivery mechanisms, and/or marketing and outreach that can be used by the national aging network to ensure that States are able to maximize the return on their investment in nutrition programs and expanding the reach of the OAA target populations; Enhancing partnerships with health care partners (e.g. oral health, behavioral health, alternative health, and etc.) to further demonstrate the network's value in solving local and national problems, and/or increasing business acumen opportunities and; Advancing the use of technology within the aging and nutrition network Successful awardees will be expected to focus on outcomes including, but not limited to, methods to improve collaboration with local health care entities, decrease health care costs for a specific population, and/or decrease the incidence of the need for institutionalization among older adults.

    The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (HHFKA) amended Section 18 of the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act (NSLA) to establish a Farm to School Program in order to assist eligible entities, through grants and technical assistance, in implementing farm to school programs that improve access to local foods in eligible schools. To fulfill the farm to school mandate in the HHFKA, $5 million is provided to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on an annual basis to support grants, technical assistance, and the Federal administrative costs related to USDA's Farm to School Program. The USDA Farm to School Program is housed within the Food and Nutrition Services' (FNS) Office of Community Food Systems (OCFS). This request for applications (RFA) provides additional details regarding the grants component of the USDA Farm to School Program. The Secretary of Agriculture was also directed through the HHFKA to ensure geographical diversity and equitable treatment of urban, rural, and tribal communities, as well as give the highest priority to funding projects that, as determined by the Secretary - (a) Make local food products available on the menu of the eligible school; (b) Serve a high proportion of children who are eligible for free or reduced price lunches; (c) Incorporate experiential nutrition education activities in curriculum planning that encourage the participation of school children in farm and garden-based activities; (d) Demonstrate collaboration between eligible schools, nongovernmental and community-based organizations, agricultural producer groups, and other community partners; (e) Include adequate and participatory evaluation plans; (f) Demonstrate the potential for long-term program sustainability; and, (g) Meet any other criteria that the Secretary determines appropriate.
