This FOA invites applications from qualified institutions to create a Roybal Center Coordinating Center (CC), serving the needs of the Roybal Centers for Translational Research on Aging program as well as the Roybal Centers for Translational Research on Dementia Care Provider Support program. The Roybal Coordinating Center will serve as a hub for the Roybal Center grant program. Roybal Center programs conduct translational in the behavioral and social sciences of aging, structured in accordance with the NIH Stage Model. Roybal Center program resources are intended for pilot and preliminary translational, multi-directional research at Stages 0 through IV of the behavioral intervention development pipeline with the goal of creating principle-driven interventions that improve the lives of mid-life and older people and the capacity of institutions to adapt to societal aging. The Roybal Coordinating Center will facilitate and coordinate trans-Roybal activities. The Center will work closely with the NIA Program Officer and, in coordination with all Roybal sites, will be responsive to requests generated by key Roybal site personnel, NIA, NIH, the scientific community, and the general public.

This UE5 funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is for a part of the NCIs Informatics Technology for Cancer Research (ITCR) program (https://itcr.cancer.gov/), and establishes an ITCR Education Center to provide education resources that will enhance the use and usability of the informatics tools and resources developed and supported by the ITCR program through education of both the cancer research community as well as informatics tool developers. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Courses for Skills Development The proposed Center will provide focused education courses in each of the following two areas (1) thematic topics in cancer informatics and (2) informatics tool usability and user support . The courses supporting education in thematic topics in cancer informatics should cover the variety of domains represented by the ITCR program and incorporate ITCR tools as exemplars for applying informatics methods, including, as appropriate, hands-on training on the associated tools and analysis workflows for participants. The courses in informatics tool usability and user support should focus on activities that target the needs of currently funded ITCR investigators, and provide guidance in enhancing the usability and user support of their tools.

The Alport Syndrome Foundation (ASF) is inviting applications for the Paul Silver Enrichment Award in memory of Paul Silver, an Alport syndrome patient. Silver was a film and music editor in Hollywood who passed away in 2004 at the age of 38. In 1985, he was a Communications major studying filmmaking at Pennsylvania State University and needed a camera to document his trip to Tuscany, Italy, where was he was planning to attend a summer study program. Silver applied for, and won, the Anthony Maimone Memorial Award and was able to make a documentary film for the university about his experiences in Italy and the benefits of the program. The purpose of the award is to "pay it forward" and help other young people affected by Alport syndrome achieve one of their goals. The award can be used to complete a project or pursue an activity that will enhance the applicant's life. The program is open to individuals between the ages of 16 and 22 affected by Alport syndrome.  The award selection committee has a total of $3,000 to award, at its discretion, to one or more applications. Applicants will be evaluated on the purpose and potential impact of the award, if the award will allow the applicant to achieve their stated goal, the quality of the essay, recommendation letters, and completeness of the submission. Applications will be accepted between September 1 and November 16, 2019, with winners to be notified in early January 2020.

To establish a Data Center to coordinate and analyze single cell and other molecular data sets generated by Single Cell Opioid Responses in the Context of HIV (SCORCH) and other NIDA-funded HIV and substance use disorder projects and to make the data findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) to enable secondary analyses by the scientific community.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages applications from integrative teams and individual investigators for large-scale complex multi-disciplinary Functional Genomics Projects (FGPs) to determine the contributions and mechanisms underlying the contribution of risk-associated variants and their downstream effector transcripts for type 2 diabetes (T2D). The intent is to generate knowledge and tools to enable the identification of putative biomarkers and therapeutic targets by future efforts. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and other genomic studies of T2D and its complications have found many variants that are statistically associated with disease risk, disease protection, progression to complications, or other traits. However, such studies do not show which variants in genomic elements cause these effects or how they result in differences in function. Applications submitted to this RFA will systematically identify causal variants and effector transcripts associated with all known T2D risk variants, verify the role of downstream effector transcripts, build network models that explain their role(s) in T2D and its complications, and identify key readouts and modulation points in these networks. Data, tools, and reagents generated by these projects will be released rapidly to facilitate more in-depth study by the broad scientific community.

In partnership with global biotechnology companies SanofiGenzyme and Regeneron, OpenIDEO has issued an open call for ideas through its "Agents of Change" Atopic Dermatitis Challenge. Through the challenge, the innovation platform seeks ideas that address the bullying and stigma experienced by people with AD and helps them live healthy, regular, fulfilled lives. 0dIdeas submitted in response to the challenge should address the following: increase understanding of atopic dermatitis; build confidence within the AD community; and reduce social stigma and feelings of loneliness due to bullying. Ideas outside this framework also are welcome.

NIDA is interested in research that addresses research gaps related to the delivery of integrated treatment services for HIV and opioid use disorder (OUD) among the justice-involved population in the US, with a goal of improving treatment management and implementation. A quarter of people with HIV pass through the justice system each year, making it an important system for HIV prevention and treatment. Community re-entry from incarceration is a time of heightened risk for opioid relapse, mortality, HIV risk behaviors, and discontinuation of HIV treatment. Given these elevated levels of risk, justice-involved PWID should be prioritized for screening and linkage to the full continuum of HIV prevention and treatment services, including Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). There is a need to better understand the effectiveness of the clinical interventions as received in this population, as well as the methods by which those interventions are delivered (navigation/mobile services).

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is designed to support highly integrated research teams of three to six PD/PIs to address ambitious and challenging research questions that are important for the mission of NIGMS and are beyond the scope of one or two investigators. Collaborative program teams are expected to accomplish goals that require considerable synergy and managed team interactions. Project goals should not be achievable with a collection of individual efforts or projects. Teams are encouraged to consider far-reaching objectives that will produce major advances in their fields. Applications that are mainly focused on the creation, expansion, and/or maintenance of community resources, creation of new technologies or infrastructure development are not appropriate for this FOA. This FOA is being reissued to allow submission of applications that include NIH defined clinical trials. NIGMS will not accept clinical trials that are designed to test safety and efficacy of interventions (Phase I, Phase II, Phase III) for the purpose of future clinical treatment and/or regulatory approval in response to this FOA.

The over-arching goal of this NIDCD R25 program is to support educational activities that foster a better understanding of biomedical research and its implications in the areas of auditory and vestibular research. The complexity of auditory and vestibular biology processes provide our hearing and balance function. Interruption of these processes may occur from a variety of factors, including genetic, environmental and pathogenic agents, and often results in the loss of hearing and balance function. While loss or impairment of these functions are most often non-life-threatening, the disruption to quality of life is substantial. Since August of 2007, the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) (http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/) has supported a special topics course in auditory and vestibular biology. The two to three week course, Biology of the Inner Ear, has been held at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA, and has brought together outstanding faculty to provide hands-on instruction to participants. It is the continued intent of the NIDCD to foster the advancement of research methodologies and technologies to improve, hasten and implement new treatments for these disorders and impairments. It is based on this template of excellence that the NIDCD invites R25 applications for support of a special topics course in the auditory and vestibular sciences. The purpose of this five-year initiative is to support three courses to be offered each in years 2021, 2023, and 2025. This will allow for a sustained specialized topics course that provides lecture and hands-on research exposure to the auditory and vestibular sciences. The target audience envisioned for this course consists of advanced graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and established early stage research investigators.

The justice system is an important target for HIV prevention and treatment, as an estimated 25% of all people living with HIV will pass through the justice system each year. As well, a high proportion of people with opioid use disorder (OUD) and people who inject drugs (PWID) pass through the justice system each year. OUD and injection drug use elevate HIV risk. Community re-entry from incarceration is a time of heightened risk for substance use relapse, opioid-related mortality, HIV risk behaviors, and discontinuation of HIV treatment. Justice involved people who have HIV, or who are at elevated risk for HIV, should have the opportunity to receive evidence-based HIV services appropriate to their level of risk. These include screening, initiation on Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) or highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), and engagement in related substance use disorder treatment services. HIV treatment-as-prevention can help reach the goal of ending the HIV epidemic in the United States. This initiative aligns with the NIH-OAR priority of reducing the incidence of HIV, and with the President's objective to End the HIV Epidemic by 2030.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) seeks applications for implementation research in the delivery of proven effective interventions for co-occurring heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) diseases and conditions among people living with HIV/AIDS.  Proven effective interventions and management guidelines exist for co-morbid HLBS diseases and disorders for people living with HIV. However, these interventions have not been fully implemented among people living with HIV/AIDS and gaps in care remain. The intent of this FOA is to stimulate the use of late-stage T4 translation research and implementation science strategies to address barriers that impede the scale-up and application of proven effective interventions in community and clinical settings for the prevention, control, and treatment of co-morbid HLBS conditions for people living with HIV.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to continue development and expansion of the NIDDK Information Network (dkNET) under the direction of the dkNET Coordinating Unit (dkNET-CU). dkNET supports NIDDK research by providing a user-friendly web portal that seamlessly connects the NIDDK research community to an expanding universe of biomedical resources and data. The dkNET-CU will be responsible for providing the scientific direction, vision, and administrative management needed to advance dkNET goals.

The intent of the FY17 ERP IDA is to solicit research to understand the magnitude and underlying mechanisms of PTE. The FY17 ERP IDA offers two levels of funding. Funding Level I is intended to support high-risk or high-gain research from Principal Investigators (PIs) at or above the level of a postdoctoral fellow (or equivalent), but below the level of Assistant Professor (or equivalent). Note that PIs submitting Funding Level I applications will be required to verify their eligibility for this award. Funding Level II is intended to support a more mature, hypothesis-driven research project. To be considered for an FY17 ERP IDA Funding Level II, the PI must be an independent investigator at or above the level of Assistant Professor (or equivalent). While not required, applications to either Funding Level I or II should provide relevant preliminary data. Preliminary data for either Funding Level may come from the PI's published work, pilot data, or from peer-reviewed literature. The requested budget level should be appropriate for the scope of research proposed.For Funding Level I:The anticipated direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance for an FY17 ERP IDA award will not exceed $300,000. Novel and augmented techniques are sought that will ultimately be broadly accessible to the neuroscience community for the interrogation of microconnectivity in healthy and diseased brains of model organisms and humans. Development of technologies that will significantly drive down the cost of connectomics would enable routine mapping of the microconnectivity on the same individuals that have been analyzed physiologically, or to compare normal and pathological tissues in substantial numbers of multiple individuals to assess variability. Advancements in both electron microscopy (EM) and super resolution light microscopic approaches are sought. Applications that propose to develop approaches that break through existing technical barriers to substantially improve current capabilities are highly encouraged. Proof-of-principle demonstrations and/or reference datasets enabling future development are welcome, as are improved approaches for automated segmentation and analysis strategies of neuronal structures in EM images.

The FY17 OPORP Orthotics and Prosthetics Outcomes Research Award (OPORA) challenges the scientific community to address which orthotic and prosthetic devices generate the best patient outcomes. Outcomes focused research is used to support evidence-based practice which guides providers in the optimization of care to Service members and Veterans with limb loss and/or limb impairment. It is expected that any research findings will also provide benefit to the general population. Applications involving multidisciplinary collaborations among academia, industry, the military Services, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and other Federal Government agencies are highly encouraged. The FY17 OPORP OPORA is intended to support research that evaluates the comparative effectiveness of orthotic and prosthetic devices using patient-centric outcomes for Service members and Veterans who have undergone limb amputation.

The intent of the research funded through this award is to (1) support research to alleviate, stabilize, or characterize the symptoms or deficits common to TBI and AD/ADRD, and (2) reduce the burden of care on the caregiver for individuals living with the common symptoms of TBI and AD/ADRD. Research may be proposed to either facet of the intent. Both are equally important. As part of the research strategy, all applications must include cognitive, neuropsychological, or otherwise appropriate measures.The FY17 PRARP QUAL is open to Principal Investigators (PIs) at or above the level of Assistant Professor (or equivalent) from any field or discipline.
