The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to address the needs of the maternal and pediatric HIV scientific community for research data translation and sharing. This initiative will support secondary data analyses using archived HIV/AIDS data and specimens to generate new research questions and findings relevant to the scientific mission and priorities of the NICHD, Maternal and Pediatric Infectious Disease Branch (MPIDB) and Office of AIDS Research (OAR). The goal of this initiative is to encourage applicants to leverage existing datasets and employ new and advanced analysis techniques to answer scientific questions about the epidemiology, pathogenesis, treatment, clinical manifestations and complications of HIV/AIDS in maternal, pediatric and adolescent populations.

The purpose of the funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to advance our understanding of the modes of transmission of Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV), also called human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8); the biology of the initial steps of infection; and risk factors for infection to inform efforts to prevent KSHV transmission and thus prevent Kaposi sarcoma (KS), KSHV-associated multicentric Castleman disease (MCD), primary effusion lymphoma (PEL), and other KSHV-induced diseases in populations living with HIV or at high risk of developing HIV. This program covers two parallel FOAs of identical scientific scope. This FOA solicits applications for well-developed research projects using the NIH R01 funding mechanism. The companion FOA, RFA-CA-18-014, is a parallel announcement for exploratory/developmental projects using the NIH R21 mechanism.

To advance this mission, the foundation is inviting proposals for its Emerging Leaders Awards program, which provides support to early-career investigators engaged in high-impact, high-risk cancer research. Through the annual program, the foundation will award three-year grants of $750,000. The award is intended to support projects for which other sources of funding are not readily available from traditional funding mechanisms or for a separate innovative endeavor that will enhance the PI's current research portfolio. Eligible applicants must hold an MD, PhD, MD/PhD, or the equivalent at a U.S. nonprofit academic institution and be within three to eight years of their initial independent appointment. In addition, applicants must have a demonstrated ability to obtain independent funding for their lab (e.g., one or two grants such as NIH/R01, NSF/CAREER, or equivalent multi-year awards).

The primary purpose of this solicitation is to support highly interactive, multi-disciplinary teams, whose research efforts are focused on large-scale discovery of T cell immune epitopes associated with infectious or autoimmune diseases, and rejection of, or tolerance to, transplanted cells/organs/tissues. The discovery of epitopes associated with T cell responses to commensals and how they may be altered by the inflammatory state will also be supported by this solicitation. Validation of these epitopes and defining their role in immune protection or immune-mediated pathogenesis in humans is required. Investigators may include development/refinement of T cell epitope prediction tools as part of their research plan. It is anticipated that the multi-disciplinary teams will minimally include immunologists with the appropriate expertise in epitope identification and validation, and either microbiologists and/or virologists with expertise in the target pathogen(s), clinicians with expertise in the target autoimmune diseases, or clinicians with expertise in transplantation, as appropriate. This program will not support studies related to HIV/AIDS, or allergen epitopes, including those which are infection-related.

The purpose of this solicitation is to procure Research & Development services to support the PREVENT Program in the areas of (1) in vivo development/animal efficacy/biomarker development, (2) preclinical product development and CGMP manufacturing of biopharmaceutical agents, and (3) toxicology/pharmacology testing.

Aniara Diagnostica's Coagulation Research Grant provides $20,000 for established investigators (eg - faculty at an academic institution) and for students/trainees to do innovative coagulation / hematology research. Deadline for receipt of application is November 1, 2018. The Aniara Research Panel awards one yearly $20,000 grant for specialized in hematology and coagulation research. All proposed projects must in the coagulation / hematology scientific field.

The FY18 LCRP Career Development Award supports early-career, independent investigators to conduct impactful research under the mentorship of an experienced lung cancer researcher as an opportunity to obtain the funding, mentoring, and experience necessary for productive, independent careers at the forefront of lung cancer research. This award is intended to support impactful research projects with an emphasis on discovery. Submissions from and partnerships with investigators at Department of Defense (DoD) military treatment facilities and laboratories, and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers and research laboratories are strongly encouraged.

The BMFRP Idea Development Award is intended to support innovative ideas and high-impact approaches based on scientifically sound evidence to move toward the BMFRP vision of understanding and curing BMF diseases. This award mechanism is designed to support new ideas. Proposed research studies should have a high probability of revealing new avenues of investigation. The research project should include a well-formulated, testable hypothesis based on strong scientific rationale and a well-developed and articulated research approach. Personnel on the proposed team should have a strong background in BMF disease research.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to reduce the burden of cancer and improve the quality of cancer care in rural areas among low-income and/or underserved populations. The FOA encourages two types of applications: 1) observational research that includes pilot testing of intervention to understand and address predictors of cancer care/treatment and outcomes in rural low-income and/or underserved populations; or 2) intervention research to address known predictors of cancer care/treatment and outcomes in rural low-income and/or underserved populations. Specifically, the focus for observational studies (with pilot testing) is understanding and addressing the predictive and/or mediating role of social determinants of health, barriers to care, and treatment; and the focus for interventional research is on addressing quality of care related to cancer diagnosis, treatment and/or survivorship. Most existing cancer control interventions are not ready for direct implementation and dissemination in low-income rural areas, so proposals should seek to develop, adapt, and/or implement, and test interventions.

Woman to Woman, a program of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, pairs gynecologic cancer patients with trained survivor-volunteers who provide one-on-one emotional support and mentoring to women when they need it most. From the moment of diagnosis through the end of treatment, Woman to Woman survivor-volunteers have helped hundreds of women and their families cope with gynecologic cancer. Through the program, one-year grants of either $60,000 (for hospital-based programs) or $30,000 (for community-based organizations) will be awarded to institutions with a large volume of gynecologic cancer patients and a need to provide this type of support to patients. Grants are provided to cover the cost of a part-time program coordinator's salary (can be a new hire or a reassignment), program costs, and a patient fund (no indirect costs allowed). It is expected that each Woman to Woman program will become self-sustaining after the first year. OCRFA will provide all program materials for patients, as well as technical assistance and support, for the life of the program (even after the end of the grant period). Institutions and organizations also will have access to a dedicated section of the Woman to Woman website (under construction) featuring tools designed to assist them in the development and administration of new programs.

The OCRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award is intended to support high-impact research that has the potential to make an important contribution to ovarian cancer or patient/survivor care. Research projects may focus on any phase of research, from basic laboratory research through translational research, excluding clinical trials. The application must demonstrate logical reasoning and a sound scientific rationale established through a critical review and analysis of the literature for the application to be competitive. Applications must include preliminary data that are relevant to ovarian cancer and support the proposed research project. The proposed research must be relevant to active duty Service members, Veterans, military beneficiaries, and/or the American public. The anticipated direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance for an FY18 OCRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award will not exceed $450,000. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites revision applications from investigators with active NCI R01 research grants. These revision applications are expected to focus on research related to one of the 12 of the NCI's Provocative Questions (PQs) published for new applications in RFA-CA-18-019 (R01) and RFA-CA-18-020 (R21). This FOA encourages research that directly addresses PQs, including research that helps validate PQ research outcomes or adopt and disseminate PQ research results that impact cancer research and clinical care. Studies proposed in the revision applications must correspond to additional specific aims, expanding the scope of individual, already funded projects of the parent R01 award.
