Paul Marks Prize for Cancer Research: 2013 Call for Nominations | Memorial Sloan-Ketter... - 0 views

    Honoring the legacy of Paul A. Marks, MD, President Emeritus of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and a distinguished scientist, the Paul Marks Prize for Cancer Research recognizes outstanding young investigators who have made significant contributions to increase the understanding of cancer or improve the treatment of the disease through basic or clinical research. The Paul Marks Prize is awarded every other year to up to three investigators. The first recipients were named in 2001. The winners will present their work at a scientific symposium at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and share a cash award of $150,000. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2013 Paul Marks Prize for Cancer Research. Nominees must be age 45 or younger on the date of the submission deadline, April 30, 2013. Prize winners will be announced in Fall 2013.

    The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage institutions with expertise and innovative strategies for developing research and mentoring opportunities for undergraduate students from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research to submit applications for 6 month planning grants for the NIH Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (BUILD) initiative. The BUILD initiative aims to increase the diversity of the NIH-funded workforce by supporting collaborative programs that include novel approaches for enhancing undergraduate education, training, and mentorship, as well as infrastructure support and faculty development to facilitate those approaches. BUILD planning grants are intended to help institutions develop the necessary partnerships and infrastructure needed to be competitive for the BUILD initiative.

Travel Fellowships for Nanotechnologies in Cancer Diagnosis, Therapy, and Prevention - 0 views

    Harnessing principles from chemistry, biology, physics, and engineering, nanotechnology is a multidisciplinary field still in its infancy. Throughout the past decade, nanoparticles and specifically nanoparticle drug delivery systems, have emerged at the forefront of cancer therapies. Nanotechnology has helped to design and fabricate micro-scale devices, including nanoparticle drug delivery systems able to target tumors and other cancerous tissue. Nanotechnology is also being explored to generate other novel techniques to design biomarkers, immunotherapy, and vaccine development for cancer. Featuring keynote address by Nobel Laureate Robert Y. Tsien, PhD, this 2.5-day conference will discuss: nanodiagnostics for cancer biomarkers and imaging, nanoparticle toxicity and safety; nanovaccines and nanoimmunotherapeutics; the challenges of targeted delivery in tumors; and nanoparticle-based gene therapy. A discussion of these topics will serve to enhance the translation of research discoveries into improved cancer diagnostic and treatment strategies.      The Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Award is designed to provide support for the next generation of exceptionally creative thinkers with "high-risk/high-reward" ideas that have the potential to significantly impact our understanding of and/or approaches to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of cancer. The Innovation Award is specifically designed to provide funding to extraordinary early career researchers who have an innovative new idea but lack sufficient preliminary data to obtain traditional funding.     The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has issued new Requests for Proposals through its Translational Research Program to support researchers in six critical areas of unmet medical need. The RFPs mark LLS's aggressive and proactive approach to addressing the challenge of improving outcomes for cancer patients with particularly urgent needs. The LLS Translational Research Program is designed to help accelerate the movement of promising discoveries from lab to clinic. The goal of translational research is to reduce the time between laboratory findings and actual treatment. Elion Cancer Research Award is open to tenure-track scientists at the level of assistant professor who are in the first five years of a faculty appointment (at the start of the grant term).     The Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation (CBTF) is soliciting grant applications for the calendar year 2013. There will be two categories of awards: Pediatric Brain Tumor Grant Awards Our standard grant request for pediatric brain tumor awards will continue as usual. We anticipate funding up to three (3) research proposals that are a maximum of two years in duration. Funding requests cannot exceed $30,000/year or a maximum of $60,000 over the course of the award. Pilocytic Astrocytoma Award We have specific funds for one, 1-year research proposal related to pilocytic astrocytoma. The funding request for this award can be up to a maximum of $50,000.
