Founded in 1996, the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research provides funding for multiple efforts, including funding for innovative research pilot studies, scholar grants to up-and-coming investigators to encourage their careers in ovarian cancer research, public early detection screening for ovarian cancer, and nationally and internationally attended research symposia focused on ovarian cancer. To advance this mission, the center has issued a Call for Applications for its 2018 Scientific Scholar Awards. Through the program, the center will award grants of up $120,000 over two years to promising laboratory and clinical scientists interested in pursuing a career as an independent investigator in ovarian cancer research. Funds are for direct costs only; institutional overhead and indirect costs are not covered by the award. Eligible applicants must have an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree with career goals focused on ovarian cancer, and clinicians must have completed their residency. All applicants should be at the postdoc/fellow, instructor, research assistant, or assistant professor level, with no more than three to four years in any of these positions. Established outstanding scientists without prior focus in ovarian cancer but looking to focus in this area are also encouraged to apply.

Founded in 2009 by two sisters from Brooklyn, the Tell Every Amazing Lady (T.E.A.L.) About Ovarian Cancer Louisa M. McGregor Ovarian Cancer Foundation works to drive medical research, provide survivor support, and promote public awareness and education of the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of ovarian cancer. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for its 2019 Medical Research Program. Through the program, grants of up to $40,000 will be awarded to investigators working to advance research on ovarian cancer. To be eligible, applicants must be affiliated with a nonprofit institution in the United States.

The OCRP Ovarian Cancer Academy Award mechanism, which was initially created in FY09, is a unique, interactive virtual academy providing intensive mentoring, national networking, collaborations, and a peer group for junior faculty. The overarching goal of the Ovarian Cancer Academy (OCA) is to develop successful, highly productive ovarian cancer researchers in a collaborative research and career development environment. The OCA is a virtual career development and research training platform that consists of Early-Career Investigators (ECIs) and their Designated Mentors from different institutions, and an Academy Dean and Assistant Dean. The OCRP Ovarian Cancer Academy - Early-Career Investigator Award is not a traditional career development award; the ECI is expected to participate in monthly webinars and annual workshops and to communicate and collaborate with other members of the Academy (other ECIs, Mentors, Dean, Assistant Dean) as well as with the advocacy community. Since the inception of the Academy, the Academy's ECIs have presented at and chaired sessions for ovarian cancer-specific symposia and served on symposia review committees. They have also served as peer reviewers for the Department of Defense (DoD) OCRP and other funding agencies.

The overarching goal of the Ovarian Cancer Academy (OCA) is to develop successful, highly productive ovarian cancer researchers in a collaborative research and career development environment. The OCA is a virtual career development and research training platform that currently consists of 13 Early-Career Investigator (ECI)/Designated Mentor pairs from different institutions, and one Academy Dean and one Assistant Dean. Three ECIs will be graduating in the fall of FY19 and three FY18 OCA-ECI/Designated Mentor awards will be made by September 2019. In addition, eight have Academy graduates continue to participate in the annual Academy meetings. The Academy Dean and Assistant Dean catalyze the growth and professional development of the ECIs in collaboration with their Designated Mentors, assess the progress of the ECIs, and facilitate communication and collaboration among all of the Academy members.

The OCRP Pilot Award supports conceptually innovative, high-risk/high-reward research that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will drive the field of ovarian cancer research forward. The proposed research must demonstrate a clear focus on ovarian cancer (e.g., using tissues, cell lines, datasets, or appropriate animal models, etc.). The proposed research should include a testable hypothesis based on strong scientific rationale and serve as a catalyst to expand or modify current thinking about and/or approaches in ovarian cancer. Preliminary data are not required, but are allowed, since the goal of this award is to generate preliminary data. The strength of the application should be based on sound scientific rationale and logical reasoning. Clinical trials will not be supported by this award mechanism.

The proposed research must demonstrate a clear focus on ovarian cancer (e.g., using tissues, cell lines, datasets, or appropriate animal models). The proposed research should include a testable hypothesis based on strong scientific rationale and serve as a catalyst to expand or modify current thinking about and/or approaches in ovarian cancer. The proposed research must be relevant to active duty Service members, Veterans, military beneficiaries, and/or the American public. Inclusion of preliminary data is not required, but allowed. The strength of the application should be based on sound scientific rationale and logical reasoning. The outcome of research supported by this award should be the generation of robust preliminary data that can be used as a foundation for future research projects. Clinical trials will not be supported by this award mechanism.

The OCRP Teal Innovator Award supports a visionary individual from any field principally outside of, but not exclusive of, ovarian cancer to focus his/her creativity, innovation, and leadership on ovarian cancer research. The Teal Innovator Award will provide the Principal Investigator (PI) with the funding and freedom to pursue his/her most novel, visionary, high-risk ideas that could significantly impact the field of ovarian cancer research or patient care. The proposed Teal Innovator must be highly recognized in his/her field and present evidence of this recognition. Examples include, but are not limited to, recognition at the level of endowed chair; membership in the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, or Institute of Medicine; Chairmanship of the American Association for Cancer Research; or other national or international recognition.

The CDC, Division of Cancer Prevention and Control (DCPC) announces the availability of Fiscal Year 2019 funds to implement DP19-1905, The CDC Cancer Genomics Program: Translating Research into Public Health Practice. This program addresses the utilization of cancer genetic services as a strategy for cancer prevention and control. The primary outcomes of this NOFO are to increase screening of cancer family history and to increase the use of genetic counseling and testing for Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (HBOC) and Lynch Syndrome (LS) among individuals meeting recommendations for referral. This funding opportunity supports the implementation and evaluation of public health activities within four core strategies to build the evidence base and disseminate best practices. These priorities will be accomplished by funding up to 5 awardees to develop, implement, and evaluate state-level programs in cancer genomics. Funding will support applicants that demonstrate: Appropriate experience with surveillance systems, partners and similar work in cancer genomics Appropriate organizational capacity to perform, implement, and evaluate activities and strategies An approach that is consistent with the strategies and outcomes described in the NOFO An ability to collect data towards key performance measures and outcomes Innovative methods and approaches to program and strategy implementation

The OCRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award is intended to support meritorious basic and clinically oriented research in ovarian cancer; clinical trials will not be supported by this award mechanism. Research projects may focus on any phase of research from basic laboratory research through translational research. The rationale for a research idea may be derived from a laboratory discovery, population-based studies, a clinician's first-hand knowledge of patients, or anecdotal data. The application must demonstrate logical reasoning and a sound scientific rationale established through a critical review and analysis of the literature for the application to be competitive. Applications must include preliminary data that are relevant to ovarian cancer and support the proposed research project.

The OCRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award is intended to support high-impact research that has the potential to make an important contribution to ovarian cancer or patient/survivor care. Research projects may focus on any phase of research, from basic laboratory research through translational research, excluding clinical trials. The application must demonstrate logical reasoning and a sound scientific rationale established through a critical review and analysis of the literature for the application to be competitive. Applications must include preliminary data that are relevant to ovarian cancer and support the proposed research project.

The OCRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award is intended to support high-impact research that has the potential to make an important contribution to ovarian cancer or patient/survivor care. Research projects may focus on any phase of research, from basic laboratory research through translational research, excluding clinical trials. The application must demonstrate logical reasoning and a sound scientific rationale established through a critical review and analysis of the literature for the application to be competitive. Applications must include preliminary data that are relevant to ovarian cancer and support the proposed research project. The proposed research must be relevant to active duty Service members, Veterans, military beneficiaries, and/or the American public. The anticipated direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance for an FY18 OCRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award will not exceed $450,000. Refer to Section II.D.5, Funding Restrictions, for detailed funding information. All projects should adhere to a core set of standards for rigorous study design and reporting to maximize the reproducibility and translational potential of preclinical research. The standards are described in Landis, S.C., et al., A call for transparent reporting to optimize the predictive value of preclinical research, Nature 2012, 490:187-191.

The HERA Women's Cancer Foundation provides funds for a project focused on the cause, early detection, treatment, and/or understanding of ovarian cancer. This annual award provides $50,000 for a cross-disciplinary project that is collaborative in nature.  The application must identify two (or more) scientists with different yet complementary skills and explain how these skills will be synergistic in addressing the ovarian cancer problem.  Applications are now being accepted for the 2013 award.
