The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement is to encourage research on the basic biology of the intervertebral disc and on the molecular mechanisms underlying intervertebral disc degeneration. Back/spinal pain, which is a major public health concern in the United States, is strongly associated with intervertebral disc degeneration. Acute low back pain that is serious enough to disrupt daily routines affects about 70 percent of adults sometime during their lives. In the vast majority of patients, low back pain resolves within a few weeks with conservative medical management. 

This FOA calls for exploratory/novel research projects on the basic behavioral, social and biopsychosocial (also called biobehavioral or biosocial) mechanisms that empower or impede a person's management of one or more chronic conditions.

The BMFRP Idea Development Award is intended to support innovative ideas and high-impact approaches based on scientifically sound evidence to move toward the BMFRP vision of understanding and curing BMF syndromes. This award mechanism is designed to support new ideas. Proposed research studies should have a high probability of revealing new avenues of investigation.

I-Corps@Ohio is a statewide program to assist faculty and graduate students from Ohio universities and colleges to validate the market potential of their technologies and assist with launching startup companies. Together with University Advancement, the Office for the Advancement of Research & Scholarship (OARS) is rolling out an new crowdfunding platform called HawksNest. Through HawksNest, alumni, family, and friends of the university can directly support the research, scholarship, and service projects of Miami University students, faculty, and staff. This is how HawksNest works: * Any Miami University student, faculty, or staff member may complete an online application to have a project considered for funding. * An internal review team assesses applications and posts approved projects on HawksNest for a maximum of 45 days. * Potential donors visit the site to learn about and pledge funds to approved projects. * Once a funding goal has been met, the project can begin! * Project managers use the site to keep donors up-to-date with information on the project's progress.

The Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) is seeking proposals to provide independent, objective analysis of scientific and technical topics of relevance to the Air Force and national defense. The activity would include refining areas of interest provided by the Air Force into organized, rigorous studies concerning, for many scientific and technical fields, determining the state of the art, projecting trends, utilizing science and technologies for national defense purposes, and identifying promising or necessary areas of additional study. This announcement solicits proposals for up to five (5) years of performance and up to $25M of funding, dependent on the needs of the Air Force and the availability of funding. All proposals must be unclassified, but work under any award may be classified.

Proposed research projects should be directed toward the molecular biology of pain and/or the development of new analgesics for the management of pain due to terminal illness.

The aim of the Conquer Paralysis Now (CPN) Challenge is to accelerate the development of treatments for spinal cord injury (SCI) in order to provide significant improvements in patients' quality of life. Stage I of the Challenge Program was launched in 2014 to provide seed funding to a wide range of non-traditional approaches, and Stage I grants will recur annually. A total of 12 grants, each at least $50,000, are available cross the six categories in each round of Stage I. In all six awards, we are looking for unconventional, novel and disruptive concepts that have the potential for functional recovery in chronic humans and animals.

SSL is accepting applications for innovative research related to Sjögren's, with priority given to projects in the area of novel diagnostics. Grants between $15,000 and $50,000 a year for two years will be awarded, depending on the satisfactory progress of the project.

This project will support an evaluation of up to two locally-developed or adapted and potentially effective but insufficiently evaluated, interventions that are designed to deliver a combination of HIV prevention, HIV care and treatment, and other social and structural support services to transgender persons who have sex with men who are at risk for HIV infection or who are living with HIV.

The purpose of the AETC NCCC is to supply health care providers with a national resource to obtain timely and appropriate responses to clinical questions relating to: 1) the treatment of people living with HIV (PLWH) and those at high risk for HIV infection; 2) health care worker exposure to HIV and other blood borne pathogens (e.g., viral hepatitis); 3) the treatment of pregnant women living with HIV, and their exposed infants, and a perinatal referral service to connect them with HIV-experienced care providers; and 4) PLWH with behavioral health and/or substance abuse issues. 

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to seek applications for the Developmental Centers for Interdisciplinary Research in Benign Urology Program (P20). The intent of this Program is to build research teams composed of individuals with complementary expertise who propose to develop innovative resources or new research projects that utilize integrative approaches addressing research questions relevant to benign urological diseases.

This initiative will fund demonstration research projects that implement Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder in primary care practices in rural areas of the United States.In addition to expanding access to this evidence-based therapy in underserved communities, this initiative will discover and test solutions to overcoming known barriers to implementation of MAT in primary care and create training and implementation resources to support future efforts to expand access to MAT.

The CDC Epilepsy Program is announcing a new, FY16 non-research FOAs designed to improve health and quality of life for people with epilepsy.

This FOA will support the strengthening and sustainability of HIV in-service training and mentorship of HCW, as well as patient support programs through national and county systems, including NHCSC and NHITC, in Kenya. The expected outcomes include increased accountability, sustainability, and efficiency in HCW training; increased skilled HCW providing HIV services adherent to guidelines; and improved patient treatment adherence, retention, and active participation in HIV care management

 The methods proposed for validation must be used to identify and quantify chemical constituents (active or marker chemical compounds, adulterants, contaminants, or metabolites thereof) in experimental reagents, raw materials, and/or clinical specimens (for example urine or plasma samples). Methods must have been developed or utilized in fulfillment of the active parent grants specific aims. Candidate constituents for quantitative method validation studies may include (but are not limited to):phytochemicals; nutrients; and potentially deleterious substances such as pesticides and mycotoxins.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to develop and test organizational and systems level interventions to determine how best to provide comprehensive, high quality, integrated, sustainable, cost-effective interventions to improve the health outcomes of people living with HIV (PLWH) with substance use disorders and other comorbid conditions.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications to establish research teams of the Small-Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC) Consortium to conduct research whose overall goals are: 1) to improve SCLC therapeutics, focusing on understanding how the molecular vulnerabilities of this cancer could be used to develop targeted agent combinations; and/or, 2) to gain a better understanding of the rapid development of clinical resistance to drug and radiation therapy.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to support the innovative biomedical and proof-of-concept research needed to understand how reproductive maturation or injury alters the mucosal environments at HIV susceptible sites. This information is essential to provide the safest and most efficacious biomedical prevention strategies (e.g., topical microbicides and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), etc.) to those populations at heightened risk of HIV infection.
