Founded in 1972, the Tourette Association of America (formerly known as the Tourette Syndrome Association) has emerged as the premier national nonprofit organization working to make life better for all people affected by Tourette and tic disorders. The association advances its work by raising public awareness and fostering social acceptance; working to advance scientific understanding, treatment options, and care; educating professionals to better serve the needs of children, adults, and families challenged by Tourette and tic disorders; advocating for public policies and services that promote positive school, work, and social environments; providing help, hope, and a supportive community across the nation; and empowering its community to deal with the complexities of this spectrum of disorders. To that end, grants of up to $150,000 over two years will be awarded for basic and clinical studies on all aspects of Tourette syndrome. To be eligible, investigators are required to have an advanced degree such as a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent or be allied professionals with advanced degrees such as R.N.s, Drs. of O.T., social workers, and related fields. Investigators from nonprofit and for-profit organizations can apply.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to allow for investigator initiated research that will further the understanding of potential risk factors for ALS, while supporting the National ALS Registry's mission.

The purpose of the Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) program is to stimulate research in educational institutions that provide baccalaureate or advanced degrees for a significant number of the Nation's research scientists, but that have not been major recipients of NIH support. AREA grants create opportunities for scientists and institutions otherwise unlikely to participate extensively in NIH research programs to contribute to the Nation's biomedical and behavioral research effort. AREA grants are intended to support small-scale research projects proposed by faculty members of eligible, domestic institutions, to expose undergraduate and/or graduate students to meritorious research projects, and to strengthen the research environment of the applicant institution.   

The LRP Impact Award mechanism is being offered for the first time in FY17. The LRP Impact Award encourages applications that support the full spectrum of research projects or ideas that specifically focus on scientific and clinical lupus issues, which, if successfully addressed, have the potential to make a major impact in lupus research. Applications should include a well-formulated, testable hypothesis based on strong scientific rationale that is established through inferential reasoning and/or critical review and analysis of the literature. Inclusion of preliminary data is encouraged. The following are important aspects of the Impact Award: * Impact: The proposed research should impact an area of paramount importance in lupus disease. It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator (PI) to clearly and explicitly describe the potential impacts of the proposed study on lupus and to convey its level of significance. * Research Strategy: The scientific rationale and experimental methodology should demonstrate critical understanding and in-depth analysis of lupus. Experimental strategies may be novel or may be based on strong rationale derived from a literature review. * Preliminary Data: Inclusion of preliminary data, such as unpublished data from the laboratory of the PI and/or data from published literature that are relevant to lupus and support the proposed research project, is encouraged, but not required. * Focus Areas: The proposed research must address at least one of the FY17 LRP Focus Areas. Clinical trials are not allowed under this Program Announcement.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), issued by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), invites eligible United States small business concerns (SBCs) to submit Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant applications. USAID is seeking to enhance our malaria vaccine investments through a collaborative design process. The goal of USAID's Malaria Vaccine Development Program (MVDP) is to demonstrate the proof of concept of a vaccine to reduce morbidity and mortality due to malaria caused by infection with Plasmodium falciparum. Target malaria vaccine end characteristics will include at least 75% efficacy and evidence of affordability. USAID intends to support efforts towards vaccines that have the potential to directly protect recipients against disease caused by P. falciparum such as vaccines that target the pre-erythrocytic (sporozoite and liver stage) and erythrocytic stages of the life cycle. The purpose of this Addendum is to solicit Expressions of Interest (EOI) for novel and innovative approaches to malaria vaccine development that would encompass preclinical development through proof of principle clinical studies to motivate advanced development of a deployable, effective malaria vaccine.

Applications must articulate how results will lead to a clinical impact for Veterans with GWI even if a clinical impact is not an immediate outcome. All applications must focus on features of GWI and Veterans of the 1990-1991 Gulf War affected by GWI. It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator (PI) to clearly and explicitly articulate the project's potential impact on GWI. The types of activities supported include, but are not limited to, expansion of limited data on candidate markers, mechanistic targets; therapeutics and interventions; validation and advanced research on druggable mechanistic targets, identification and development of leading compounds, and collection of preclinical data for repurposing an existing approved drug or for new Investigational New Drug (IND) application submissions to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Applicants proposing to test FDA-approved drugs in animal models for efficacy must explain why preclinical testing is required prior to clinical pilot trials in humans
